[News] Reports: Ravens Sign Pass Rusher Jason Babin

99 posts in this topic

We had to pick up somebody. Jernigan will give us all the pass rush we need this year. Babin will just need to play a role and not try to be a super star. Were good on defense we need Peeriman people because without a deep threat teams will gone man coverage against us all game and that's not good.

Go_Ravens.....Unless we get the OL fixed, Perriman will be of little help....Joe doesn't have time to set up for the long ball....lets get the OL back in order then we can effectively use Perriman...

I love the move at a time like this. With Sizzle going down Ozzie and the boys got on the phones fast and heavy. Welcome to B-More Babin!

Babin is solid no doubt with our depth he can give us 7-10 sacks, depending on snap count and usage. Julius Peppers at 36-37 for Packers had like 8 sacks last yr and was a monster. Now Im not saying Babin is Peppers cause hes another HOFr potentially like Sizzle, but relating the age wise and playing in a diminished snap count compared to younger days.

Im still not happy though the organization is sitting on their hands not grabbing a vet WR! SMH

maybe having guys like carl davis, brandon williams, and timmy jernigan eating up space he can get back on his game. does he still have his jump? or did he really lose a step?

the OL isnt that bad, we faced von miller and demarcus ware with james freaking hurst at LT, that should speak volumes on its own. and when facing aqib talib and chris harris jr, the only way to win that secondary matchup is by having enough speed to just outrun them, because youre not gonna gain separation by 'outplaying" them, theyre 2 of the best man corners in the league, maybe the best tandem in the league period.

@Nick04263 - What do you mean ..Kruger got 11 sacks for the Browns last year ..40 mil for 5 years is not bad ..he has already gotten 14 sacks for them ....Ravens would be lucky to get 5 out of Babin this year , mark my words....its all good until playoffs where we are going to miss Suggs mightily anyways ......

One dimensional pass rusher not an edge setter. This is just someone who can put pressure on the qb nothing else wont give you any value in run defense we have Upshaw for that.

We can expect at least 3 sacks to a maximum of 6 from the 3rd down rusher if he sees much field action.

I'm glad we signed somebody because zadarius hasn't shown much an you can't expect much from here. Courtney will do well in the McPhee role but as an outside linebacker I don't see him getting many sacks at all.

Out of all the free agents on the market, even though Babin is 35, he is the one guy IMHO that still has solid skills. I do not mind this signing, but as others have commented, IMHO Upshaw is ready to step up. I like the fact that this team has some solid young players, who come playoff time, are going to be ready to get after it.

could have done better

Yeah because there are so many Justin Houston's out there on free agency... I think the team signed the best guy possible that was left out there. They would know they tried out several players.

They didn't just shotgun sign this dude. They actually worked him out and liked what they saw, so obviously the coaching staff believes he can contribute, regardless of his age. And I personally think he's one of those guys that despite the age, has the heart of someone 10 years younger. I think this is a nice pickup for what we plan to use him for.

If we get 4-6 sacks out of him, it will have been a good move, as i expect Upshaw to really be a 3 down OLBer now....and Babin to come in, on certain packages.....

I hope he works out,but T-sizzle was the heart and swagger of our "D". Now a wide reciever and an OC and the Raven season will not be a total loss. Good Luck Joe,stay healthy because Matt ain't Tyrod.

Coach knows him from his days in Phila. Good move as he is a good situational pass rusher.

Harbaugh left Philly to join the Ravens before Babin was with the Eagles. I imagine Rex Ryan was asked his opinion on Babin as well as any contacts coach still has in Philly.
