[News] Ravens Secondary Shows Major Strides In Opener

23 posts in this topic

Jimmy kept his eyes on Manning the entire time while covering his man, left his guy to jump another receivers route and break up the pass, then get the INT!!!!! the run back for the TD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Omg!!!!

Apparently Jimmy stirred up some dust when asked what the team had to do to win and he said, "score more points." Where some would think that is a shot at the offense, I view it as simply stating the obvious. The defense played lights out holding a first ballot hall of fame qb from scoring a touchdown for the first time since 2011 and the first time for the broncos since 2006. I think that right there says a lot about the team but Jimmy is right, the offense needs to get on the ball and first on that list isn't Flacco, its Mark Trestman.

We will depend on our defense throughout the entire season, depending how far we go forward. Our secondary was and will be fabulous. Everything will continue to go good for the defense. On the other hand, Trestman is a nomad. He comes in and goes away. Doing preseason and after yesterday, he hasn't impressed me in any way. Next year, down the road, he'll pitch his tent somewhere else.

Funny because we criticized Kubiak when he first came in and we had that zone blocking scheme. Fans were going beserk demanding him to be fired, talking of how he wasn't a success in houston. Then one season later, he was the best thing to ever happen to our offense lol. Now you guys are doing the same thing to Trestman. Give the guy a break!! Our offense will be fine.

The defense as a whole did a remarkable job against a lethal offense. Not many defenses hold Peyton Manning to ZERO touchdown passes and less than 200 yards.

Still, these are the kinds of WINNABLE games that the Ravens cannot afford to lose. Games like these are what make the difference between playing in January on the road or at home. Still lots of time to right the ship, but the Ravens can't afford to drop pick-6's and game-winning TD passes that hit guys right in the hands.

The secondary was great, especially after we started playing man coverage and pressing their receivers in the second half. In the first half, we were giving them a cushion, allowing for some easy 3rd down conversions, and Manning helped us out by missing some open receivers, including a wide open TD. I think they proved to Pees that they can not only handle, but dominate in tight, man coverage, which should also help our pass rush.

I'm going to temper my enthusiasm for the secondary for now.  The Peyton Manning we saw yesterday wasn't the Peyton that used to carve us up on a regular basis.  I mean his throws were just not there. I want to see how we do against Ben.

Another thing to consider, our DBs will really have to be on their game after losing Suggs.  As we all know, a great pass rush makes a DB's job easier.

Secondary played well, our defense as a whole played well enough for us to win. With that being said, Manning threw a pass that made me say wow, he's done! All in all, the defense showed up. Our offense only gaining 173 total yds was totally atrocious! We won't win crap playing like that on offense.

Jimmy Smith for president

No! Keep him on the field - we need him! But I think we could let the presidency go vacant for 4 or 8 years. We all might be better off.

If we can hold a Gary Kubiak run game to 69 yards and a Peyton Manning passing attack with 0 TD's and under 200 yards is ridiculous. Everybody is talking about how dominant the Denver defense was. They were good but clearly the Ravens defense was better. I mean they had no ground game and Dean Pee's dialed up a masterful game plan. People expected denver to come in and have their way with our D, nobody thought the ravens O was going to go there and beat up the Bronco's.

ATTN ravens fans.

dont panick about the offense yet. It would have been a huge mistake to assume that our offense with a new coordinator, and one of our top playmakers out, would go into Denver, one of the most difficult stadiums to play in, against a Top 5 defense, on opening day, and push them around. Trestman did what he could. There is no play call for your second string left tackle getting beat before joe has a chance to go through his first read. Yeah we can chip and max protect but our receivers aren't talented enough to beat two top 10 cornerbacks one on one so if were keeping guys in to protect Joe will continue to have zero options to throw too. That being said, our offense will face maybe 1 more situation like that the rest of the year (AZ has a great home D). Tough task for the offense to start the season. I'll start to panic if we can't open any running lanes against the Raiders

We knew Jimmy Smith would play well. He has all the tools to be a number 1, pro bowl shut down Corner.

It will be interesting to see how we react to a QB that can get the ball to the second level. Peyton stayed underneath all day with his lack of arm strength, allowing Jimmy and Ladarius to keep WR's in front of them. True test will be the deep routes, back shoulder fades and jump balls in the red zone. I think they Jimmy and Webby are set for a solid season. Please stay healthy.

It was a good defensive effort overall. I thought that we could jam them at the LOS more, but that's what you get with a zone defense. There were some pretty wrinkles on the D overall. It will be great when that monster Jernigan gets back.

Manning should have retired the minute Kubiak was hired. He's a terrible fit for Kubiak's system and his skills have diminished noticeably. He missed several wide open passes he would have dropped on a dime before. Having said that, very impressed with the play of Smith, Webb, Hill, Lewis, and Arrington. Took Demaryius Thomas out of the game.

What impressed me the most was the sure tackling in the secondary. Also, adjustment at halftime when coaches must have realize Payton can go deep with any zip on the ball. D-line did a great job of stuffing run
