[News] Late For Work 9/14: Terrell Suggs Leaves Uplifting Message For Ravens Nation

91 posts in this topic

No Mom Gene we don't have anyone to stretch the field without Perriman and Zrebiec is absolutely correct that unless we have speed we will be dealing with this all year. Sad but true. Not something we will be able to fix overnight either. Who were you thinking had speed? Kamar Aiken? Marlon Brown? Campanaro? Waller has speed and height but did he even play yesterday? We don't even have a dangerous kick/punt returner. No one will fear us that's for sure. Going to be a long season. So much for our new weapons. What? Where?

Had Steve Smith or Crockett Gilmore made tough catches on the last drive those of you pointing about all of the mistakes yesterday would now be saying how great everything is. This was always going to be a tough game and it's a shame we didn't win. On to the next one. The Raiders may have bigger injury worries than us with Carr and Woodson both looking like they had serious injuries yesterday.

Great message from Suggs that his injury changes nothing. Spoken like the true leader he has become. Suggs downplays the importance of losing any 1 player, including a key player like himself. Perfect time to remind everyone that the mission is still the same and fully achievable without him. That's the kind of message his teammates need to hear. Simple and inspiring message revealing the stellar way Suggs' influence and leadership has molded the mindset of this defense.

I forgot to mention one critical thing in yesterday's game thread. CJ mosley is amazing.

His combination of speed, smarts and instincts are perfect for an ILB, especially in this era. He can cover, diagnose plays, pressure the qb and tackle all over the field. He's going to be a serious DPOY candidate this season.

Interesting that Myers was waived so soon by the Colts. I think we may be better off with Upshaw and Za'Darius Smith than we would be with Freeney. Smith could use the experience and Upshaw may be ready to take the next step. I hate that Suggs went down, but because it was so early in the season the young players should be able to get some good game experience in before playoff time. At least we will know if they are our future. Personally I feel that Upshaw can handle it.

I don't know about anything else, but had we made that last completion to Smith or Gilmore, I would have still said the offense sucked. I have my complaints about Flacco, no doubt, but until the last drive I didn't see any variation in play calling and I think the offensive game plan was horrible. So while we are beating up Smith for dropping a ball, Gilmore for not making a spectacular catch and Flacco for throwing a pick 6, lets spread some of that blame to the person calling the plays that were so vanilla I though Bryn Renner was in there. When Flacco was getting pounded in the first half the announcers kept saying "how about a screen pass" and I don't ever recall even seeing one. I think there was one pathetic wide receiver screen to Aiken but I think that was about all we did to keep the pass rush back. I know I am going to get negged but Cam Cameron had more variety in his play calls than Trestman.

When you have 1.2 seconds to get rid of the ball.... it's not gonna matter who the heck is downfield.  Joe had absolutely NO TIME to throw AT ALL.....  sheesh.  Ware and Miller were on him all night long.  The guy was pressured 64% of his drop backs

Cool, but if I'm an opposing defense, I'm sending at least 5-6 guys on every dropback and daring Joe to throw deep to somebody, because as I said, I don't see the guy on this roster that a defense fears can do that. Its gonna be hard for any offensive line to block 5-6 guys consistently, even though they played very poorly yesterday.

Its a show-me league. If you want defenses to adjust to your skill sets, you've got to make them pay for playing certain packages against us. When they play 7-8 guys in the box, you've got to make them pay for that somehow.

We will see what happens in future games. We may beat Oakland soundly, and the offensive line may play great (and likely will), and it still wouldn't surprise me if we complete nothing but 15 yard passes and in.

Remember, just because Joe completes a bunch of deep passes in the playoffs three years ago doesn't mean he gets two-deep safety every time he drops back. The league sees the same things we see...

What was the problem with Monroe I watched the Game on Armed Forces Network and of course there was no sound. Ozzie has to think about moving some of those draft picks he loves so much to get some speed on the outside or line help. Flacco looked helpless out there no seperation from the WR and Bronco in his face every play.

Rule #2....  No personal attacks on members or moderators...  It isn't about the media and their boneheaded comments about their own team in the newspaper....  I'd say the same about Mike Preston too.

Exactly...  They see a deficient O-line, so they send their stout pass rush... and then their secondary press covers what receivers we have going downfield...

I'm having a hard time following this post. Do you like the D or not?

"I have the foreboding that it's not the D that's gonna make it hard for us this season..." ;)

I don't expect that to change if they see a better Oline. In fact, I'd suspect they may load the box even more.

The only way to back the defense up is to actually complete passes down the field. They certainly aren't going to even think about backing up until you actually prove you can do it.

After one game, we haven't proven that. Time will tell if we do. But there isn't anybody right now that defenses feel they need to respect there, regardless of Flacco's arm strength.

Betcha everyone in Philadelphia will be talking about Sugge on the Monday Night Football after that hit he did on Bradshaw, I saw on the news this morning from a Philadelphia station that Coach Chip Kelly was pretty happy that Sugg got was was coming to him, he need to stick that tongue back in his mouth,It's always sticking out

OK. So Suggs won't be with us on the field. No reason he can't represent the Ravens by going toe to toe with Skip Bayless and take him down a few notches. Suggs is more than capable of getting the best of Skip.

Better O-Line coverage...

Horsecollar tackle in the pocket is legal AFAIK. I was thankful that Flacco was OK after that. That was scary. It could've gone seriously wrong.

After review he was actually out of the pocket

I love Ray Lewis but he retired 3 seasons ago. Stop comparing Ray Lewis to Suggs as leaders. It is not fair. Suggs can get the Ravens just as fired up for a game and the emotional toll of losing Suggs is the same as losing Ray Lewis. Nobody will be a Ray Lewis, as Ray Lewis is in a world of his own. Rather compare Ray Lewis to Ravens team leaders, how about embracing the unique individuality of each leader the Ravens have had since Lewis was gone. Suggs has surely fired up the team with pre-game on field speeches but he also can be a pretty funny guy which can help keep the players loose, would it be fair if we compare Lewis to Suggs as far as being funny to help players relax when needed? Each leader has their own special ability that is their own and no one but their own, embrace it, not compare it. Suggs will be missed, wishing him a speedy recovery.

How come they don't throw the ball 8 feet in the air and let M Brown 6'6" jump up and get it in the end zone? Denver only has one CB 6'1" the rest are 5'11.

Now that I would like to see. That would be fun to watch.

All the fans saying we will be fine without Suggs, you just don't know what you have until you lose it. If there was one thing that couldn't have happened in this game was losing Suggs, Jimmy or Flacco for the season. It happened, now were screwed!

But many of us were gotten on for violating the rules of commenting - and quite rightly so...

Keep your Pants on Ricky Bobby's, we are not on fire!! Will we be as good as we would be with T-Sizzle, No! Do we still have a top 10 Defense, Yes! Let's not stab ourselves in the leg just yet.

Trying to move on and look ahead: Derek Carr is expected to miss 2-3 weeks with his hand injury - so he very probably won't play against us next Sunday. That's good news (I mean as good as any injury can be).

A propos, injuries. Have you seen how many more or less serious injuries happened in the NFL yesterday? It's just plain brutal...
