I agree that all blame cannot be put on Flacco. Some for sure but not all. After all, both passes (including the last INT in the end zone)were actually in the hands of Smith and Gilmore. Gilmores was knocked out while Smith's was just dropped.

Tough loss, as they all are but with all the injuries and stagnet play, we really could be in trouble. Can Ozzie work his magic? I hope so.

GO RAVENS!

OK, a couple of things about Suggs' injury - or, more precisely, about his absence for the season:

1.) His encouraging tweet is great - but a tweet won't make sacks and manage the D... Not against Suggs of course - but let's not see too much into a single tweet.

2.) "Next man up" sounds great as a slogan - but it means precious little if that certain next man is someone who's light years behind the guy he replaces...

3.) It's nice to compare this situation to when Ray Lewis was out for half the season - but who was it that admitted that without Ray the D sometimes looked like a ship that lost direction? Yep, Suggs. Now, how's the D gonna look like without "today's Ray"? That said, the D was the usual quality for most of the game, and we can only hope that Suggs' absence won't change that too much. I trust Pees is good enough to account for that and change the strategies accordingly.

I have the foreboding that it's not the D that's gonna make it hard for us this season...

We defintly quieted the loss of haloti ngata that's for sure. Beshard Perriman is a must to get back, once he gets back defenses will respect him for his raw speed alone. This wont last long. Also again we faced a probowl defense. Also not to mention we went against a coach who know our offense hand and glove. I do agree without perriman our offense wont do much, thankfully it wont be much longer until he returns. I hope he returns next week, I thought he would return last week, but IDK. But he shouldn't be out much longer, a whole month and a half, general knowledge says he will back soon. Anyway lets destroy the black hole next week.

Having Perriman yesterday would not have changed the outcome of that game. Flacco had no time and Trestman did little to adjust and help the situation. The INT should have been an interference call as the defender that was draped all over Gillmore never had his head turned toward the ball. Can't believe this hasn't been a topic of discussion.

That was actually a good game to watch despite what the score suggested.

It was nice to see the D harass Manning all along. Losing Suggs is definitely a blow.

The offense was total opposite. Nothing went right. The OL, the running game and the receiving. Denver's D was tough though. The receivers we have probably won't even make it to the 53 squad on other teams and I am amazed how the coaches hype up these fellows as the next big thing in the making (Aiken, Marlon). Still the 1st game and lots of tweaks to be made. We should be OK.

And as for the O... I guess it's more than telling of how "good" our present O is, that all our hopes are in a guy who's never ever had one single NFL-snap, never caught a ball... It's like hoping your blind date will be the real one... Might prove to be... but what do you really know?

And Flacco... I've been saying several times: Flacco is a notoriously slow starter on the road - with last night's game he won 3 of his 8 first road games of the season - and two of those 3 weren't as much his contribution but the D and the running game... So, as we anticipated, Flacco starts his seasons slow on the road, kinda as a default... Last night's game was only another game in the pattern. Joe usually follows up these slow first road games by a much better one (except in 2010 where he had an even worse, 5-IT outing in Cincinatti after beating the Jets 10-9 in the season opener, with Flacco having a modest day.), and this time it's gonna be the Raiders... so theres every right to hope for a better performance.

I wish we would've used Darren Waller yesterday. I don't feel too great having Aiken in there. SSS can't do it all by himself.

What makes you think Waller would have been any better? Maybe - maybe not - but we cannot know that.

Unfortunately, I cannot talk about the game due to internet connectivity issues yesterday. Let's talk about the emotional aspect and the bright side to look forward to. I wouldn't hang my head up about an emotional leader. Undoubtedly, Suggs has a gift when it comes to inspiring a team and raising the stakes. It is a huge loss that he will not be on the field again this year. However, just because you can't imagine someone replacing him, it doesn't mean he isn't there yet. You cannot have two cockerels in one pen, therefore, one man (Sizzle) stepped up and the others let him take the stage and joined the ride he directed. Now we will get to know someone else we have on the roster much better. I have absolutely no doubt, that there are men who can take up this role, step up big-time and hand out man-feels in doses that inspire. It could be Buck (Daryl Smith) or it could be one of the DBs like Kendrick Lewis or it could be the quietest man on the defense roster. Now, I know we have hurdles to overcome, but it'll get done.

If it was Manning who made that last throw im almost positive they would of thrown a flag, face guarding at its finest right there

And the play when Demarcus Ware yanked Flacco back by his collar. Yesterday the refs let a lot of things go uncalled so really you can't be harsh on them. I'd rather a game like that than a game with 100 flags.

Not the receivers fault yesterday and it wasn't Flacco's fault either. Outside of Steve Smith's game winning touchdown drop and Flacco's terrible pick six, the rest of the game the offense couldn't do anything because the offensive line couldn't hold one on one. They played nothing like they played last season... Makes me worried that the offensive line troubles will repeat and do the same thing they did in 2013.. Second pick wasn't Flacco's fault but the first he needs to be accountable for. We were ahead and that changed the momentum of the game....

Let's take a look at the positive aspects. We didn't give up a smashing 7 TDs like we did last time. We sacked Manning, one of the hardest QBs to take down, consistently throughout the game. And, call it a half positive if you will, we did play against one of the best teams we'll see all year, on the road, and still almost left with a win.

Sure, the offense didn't look pretty, at all. But neither did Denver's. And do you think they're even the least bit worried? Nah, and neither should we.

My prayers goes out to Sizzle, gonna miss him. I wonder why the dbs played so far off almost the entire game but the defense played very well yesterday. Marlon Brown needs to be targeted more when the offense reach the redzone area. I think his size and hands are an advantage over small dbs but it's only one game. I can't wait for Perriman and Pitta to get back because they'll make this offense better.

Horsecollar tackle in the pocket is legal AFAIK. I was thankful that Flacco was OK after that. That was scary. It could've gone seriously wrong.

If SUGGS retires, i will completely understand. Thats a tough injury that late in a players career and he already had to go through once before a few yrs ago.

Suggs ur a freaking Beast and i really hope you come back for another yr. Either way, YOU WILL NEVER BE REPLACED.

Ice up Son ;)

I'm having a hard time following this post. Do you like the D or not?

1st off alot of stuff went uncalled because the line judge went down so they took one of the back judges away from deep and brought him down, so as the former ref said, it would have an impact on the passing game, just like they could have called PI on the last pick, they could have called PI on Jimmy's pick-6.

2nd, where we will miss suggs is his ability to set the edges on runs, he didn't record not one stat yesterday but he forced alot of runs back inside, or strung them out to the sideline. I pray this isnt the end for him.

3rd, Trestman has to do a better job at adjusting to the pressure. Why would he not keep a TE and/or a RB in to help with protection, well he started to do that on the last drive. I just hate how, our offense starts to click when we are down under 2 min to go. maybe we need to go more no huddle to change up the pace. We really need to work on our screen game because we did not excute not one screen yesterday.

4th, Where was Camp and Waller?? The weren't inactive but did not play much, i was almost sure that Waller was saved for the red zone but once we got down there he still wasn't in. Camp is our slot guy and e could have bailed us out on some blitzes they sent at flacco, we didn't seem to put our players in advantagoues matchups, very few motion plays to get free releases, no plays to get SSS or camp on a LB or S.

5th, helluva game by our defense except for that 11 min drive in the 4th quarter, i know they were prolly gassed from the offense's inability to convert 3rd downs. is it me or does it look like Webb has horrible technique?? Anyways, Will Hill was flying around and if daryl smith catches that interception he had nothing but pay dirt, and it would have been a different game. That one play could have changed the outcome.

all in all, we will bounce back. ok im done

True, but upon replay, he was actually outside the pocket.

Touch call on the field, because I thought he was still in the pocket too, but the technical correct call is a penalty there.

We may have lost but i think we all saw a team that Can be REALLY dangerous. This defense reminded me of the early 2000s. They were feeding off each other and it gave me goose bumps. Lets not forget that moving forward.

Can I just say that Zrebiec is an idiot.... To make a statement like that "Without anybody to stretch the field, Ravens will deal with this all year, tweeted Zrebiec.

We do have people to stretch the field. The Denver defense, as even he said... covered the routes...

AND... we do have folks to fill the void. Just sayin...

I'd have a hard problem naming one outside of Perriman. We can list a bunch of names all day, but there isn't a team in the league that respects their ability to take the lid off a defense. Not one.

And until we actually PROVE that we can do this, and until we actually take some shots down field and convert them with players not named Perriman, none of this matters.

Only one game, so no indictment intended, but there isn't a team in the league that respects our ability to go deep right now, and good DC's will be able to gameplan against us much better because of it.

Moot point from the Denver game, because the pass protection was never good enough to take shots deep anyway.

Mark my words, that anemic showing was due to an AFC North Cameron-esque gameplan drawn up to keep the ball away from Manning. Little did we know he'd suck that bad.

When you have 1.2 seconds to get rid of the ball.... it's not gonna matter who the heck is downfield.  Joe had absolutely NO TIME to throw AT ALL.....  sheesh.  Ware and Miller were on him all night long.  The guy was pressured 64% of his drop backs

Losing Suggs will hurt, but I do believe we can still be a great defense without him. We can't compare losing Ray to losing Suggs, and honestly I think we are a lot better defensively with this unit than we were in 2012. One thing that gives me hope is that we had 4 sacks yesterday, and Suggs and Doom didn't have any. Pees can be creative with getting pressure, and if we stay healthy in the secondary I think we can continue to do that. We also have a lot of good players on our defense. Losing the leadership is my biggest concern. Get well soon sizzle.
