[News] Game Recap: Broncos 19, Ravens 13

108 posts in this topic

There is a long list of teams who started 9 - 0 since 1966 and much fewer went on to win the Super Bowl. Look what happened to the Pats 19 and OH NOOOO !!!

LOL...I  meant when we went started 9-2. Slow down.

The defense did very well, I was impressed. It sucks to lose the Suggs with the leadership and experience he brings, but I think we'll be ok with the young talent. The O line may need help. The Broncos do have a good defense though. We definitely need speed on the outside. Let's hope Perriman gets out there asap so he can show us what he's made of!

Kubiak knew Flacco's weaknesses keeping Joe rattled and contained in the pocket. Joe never was very good at burning blitzes and apparently our new offensive coordinator Mark Trestman isn't either. IMO the offense needs more play time as a unit in the preseason, seems as though they come out playing flat. Joe is famous for making poor decisions when under pressure.

I'll piggy-back on what most have said. The OL needs to give Joe time and the receivers need to get seperation. Even when Joe did have time the receivers could not get open for the most part. Hopefully Perriman comes back soon and plays like a 1st rd pick. We absolutely need a deep threat for many reasons. It will help spread it put for the other receivers and it will open up the running game.

Tress should've run the ball more to open up the passing game, but let's face it, the OL was getting abused all day. They couldn't protect Joe, nor did they open lanes for Forsett and Allen. SSS is gone after this season so Oz really needs to find another vet WR who can get it done. And actually play for more than a few seasons. Spend the cash and get a pro bowler in his prime to go along with Perriman. Give Joe some real weapons to work with.

Absolute shame about Sizzle. My heart goes out to him. He's a Raven through and through and it's unfortunate that this is most likely how his stellar career will end. Fortunately, the D looks very good and are very young. Bring Jernigan into the mix and it only gets dirtier. They played quite well and will only get better. Smith needs to stay healthy because he's a top 5 corner in the league imo. Dude has everything you want in a lockdown corner. Good job D.

an't wait ti see them improve even more as the season goes on.

Oz needs to address the lack of playmakers on the O though. Like I said, just one pro bowl caliber receiver in his prime, Perriman and Gilmore/Williams, Forsett/Allen and the offense is ready to rock. Obviously we aren't getting that receiver this season, but it's something that should be done in the offseason to build for the future. Especially with SSS moving on after the season.

Just scrolled down and read a long list of whiny misplaced overreactions... imagine if Smith catches the touchdown- are Denver fans sitting at their computers talking about how Peyton needs to retire and Kubiak's new offense is a failure and CJ Anderson was a one-year wonder and the offensive line is a joke and they're hopeless with their current personnel? Maybe, but if so, they'd sound as stupid and ridiculous as all the complainers on here. We just played ONE GAME. Flacco has these games every year. Aiken proved to you all last year that he's a very good player, but no receiver is going to catch passes when the QB has .04 seconds to get rid of the ball. Besides that, Harris and Talib are one of the best corner duos in the league. Get over it, move on to next week- We're still Super Bowl contenders.

1. Denver fans need to contemplate some of those things. They'd be smart to do so. Why? They are fatal flaws that will burn the broncos once again come playoff time. They have a makeshift o-line. Also, manning hasn't been able to throw intermediate passes w/ accuracy since last yr's rams game. They should question their offense regardless of what happened. In fact, i went to their reddit page... they are doing just that.  What, do you think them questioning those 2 FACTS is ridiculous? Please... brushing them under the rug like they aren't legit problems would be far more ridiculous. They played today like they did in the divisional vs. the indianapolis colts except their o-line is far worse now. According to you, their fans should twiddle their thumbs and say nothing like a trend isn't building though, right?

2. "Flacco has these games every year" Is that supposed to make it ok? That's partly the reason why this team can't get home field advantage in the playoffs. This team under harbaugh is below .500 on the road. They lose games like this in this fashion on the road way too often. The o-line gets overwhelmed, wr's get pressed & the offense turns into a heaping pile of you know what. They blitz hoping flacco makes a mistake on his hot read and boom, pick. Heck, it happened last yr @ indy, @ cincy and @ houston. That's 3 games... If their offense doesn't fail to the same defensive gameplan, they win all 3 and get homefield. Instead, they lose & have to hope other teams blow it so they can get a wildcard & go through the playoffs on the road.

What we saw tonight is clearly a trend. It's so much of a trend that flacco & trestman addressed it in the offseason as something the ravens needed to get better at. They clearly haven't which is why people are pointing it out. The broncos basically utilized the bengals & colts old gameplans on the ravens' O and it worked. The offense let the defense down. If this costs the ravens' homefield advantage or even a playoff berth, our concerns as fans will be validated.

3. "Aiken proved to you all last year that he's a very good player" WHAT? no he didn't. All aiken has done since he got here is play well in training camp and flash some ability in the preseason / reg season. He has been cut by a number of teams already & is only starting right now because perriman is injured. He hasn't proven anything. His supposed 4.45 speed hasn't displayed itself in baltimore yet. He also doesn't get much separation on his routes. Marlon brown has proven way more than aiken (brown had an awesome rook preseason & grabbed 8 TDs in his rook year)... Marlon brown would classify as an average receiver to me. Very good means you're a consistent factor on the field. Kamar has trouble being a factor no matter how much he plays...

4. "no receiver is going to catch passes when the QB has .04 seconds to get rid of the ball" That's the thing... why is it that the ravens and this supposedly vaunted o-line (ranked top 5 last yr) get blasted like this 3-4 times a season on the road to the exact same defensive gameplan? I hate the patriots but after that KC debacle last yr, they made adjustments & seldomly allowed their offense to not protect & not produce going forward. The ravens are going to do what they always do. They'll win 3 or 4 more games before they go on the road & lose in that fashion to some team because that's what they do.

It isn't ideal to be a playoff wild card. It's ideal to battle for home field. Losing games like this in this fashion tells me the ravens' offense isn't ready to contend for homefield advantage. Yeah, yeah... they have a new OC and need time... yet this same thing happened with their last 2 co-ordinators. It's a trend that the ravens themselves want to address yet you believe we shouldn't say anything about it? Ok, then.

This is one game out of 16. Every game is important. 1 game can decide where you are seeded. I still believe the ravens will be fine but am now scared that this type of dud from the offense will happen 2-3 more times this season. Based on past seasons, i'm justified to feel that way.... others on this thread are justified to feel that way as well.

It's gonna be a longggggggggggggg season, everyone absolute sucks today except the Defense, they played awsome and thanks to the REFS,That very last play should have been a defensive foul on the Bronco, I saw all the REFs looking the other way, that the way these expletive officals treats the Ravens, what happen to all the positive hype that the critics gave to us, you know what we do good, we give away the players that helped us get to where we are, we get rid of a few of them every year and then we right back at the beginning. Look at Tyrod, all the NEGS that I got just mentioning his name did great, he won his 1st game as a starter after 4 season sitting behind Joe Flacco's butt, there many games that Flacco should be on the bench and Mariota of the Titans beat Jamise Winston of Tampa Bay, Mariota reminds me of a young Tom Brady only I hopes he doesn't cheat, great game there, It's gonna be a great season for a lot of the lower teams that loses year after year, Ravens got 7 tough game in a row to play yet, Man, how about Suggs, that's gonna hurt, I guess we'll find out next week if the Ravens will go forward. This is my opinion Fans,I'm entitled to it and there's no need to NEGS meeee, If ever I don't agree with a post then I move on to the next poster, very simple but I'm curious to see how many I got coming LOL

I'd say both defenses looked very good, but I'm not sure, as I was hoping for the offense to get going more so than anything, but we did prevent Manning from going off like 2 years ago on opening day, which I am relieved about. I was feeling haunted as this game drew near of another 5, 6, or 7 TD game for Manning, which would have been a killer to our pride, once again. That did not happen and our Defense deserves the credit for that. Joe holds on to the ball twice as long as Manning, which I hate, but in retrospect, both got sacked 4 or 5 times anyways, so maybe it was receivers not getting open or getting any separation, which is a re-occurring theme for us over the years, not having great wide receiver play. We missed Torrey and we missed Jones. We missed having receivers get open, not their drops, though. After all is said and done, we're not on the level of N.E., for sure, so I'm giving up on securing a No. 1 seed, prob. a No. 2 seed either, but remember last year, we made the playoffs, and we lost the 1st game to Cincy. (both games actually), so that isn't that bad, right now. On to Oak! Hopefully we'll explode like Cincy. did today, we need an uplifting game to build our confidence, esp. OC Trestman.

Aaaaaaannnnnnd the overrated cowboys just did what we had the chance to do. Makes it hurt that much more.

I feel ya, was thinking the same thing. How nice it would be to have an ending like that. Just wasn't our day is all.

"We have a lot to work on, obviously. That was a pretty poor showing." - Joe Flacco

^ It was typical of this offense (shades of a few seasons back), predictable and down right pathetic!

That game was bitter.  I feel real bad for the D.  I thought they played good.  The end of the game was really frustrating with Steve unable and Gill sandwiched.    Wagner was dominated all day as well.   We lost Suggs!!!  Time for the team to get some payback in Oakland

The Cowboys pull a rabbit out of the hat and we get a offensive shaft topped with a Suggs season ender.  Got to make our team real in Oakland

So as a fan since 1996....when are we going to get tired of the joe flacco hype?... I don't care if I get 1000 thumbs down. We need to be sick of his play, and overall decision making. You got paid 120 million dollars to be mediocre at best. He is way too inconsistent for my taste and I'm sick of watching the bs! Suggs out for the season really put the icing on the cake for me today. Expect a long season while our defense busts it's butt for 60 minutes everywhere. Meanwhile elsewhere in buffalo, where Tyrod Taylor showed the type of qb I always knew he could be.. Good for him.

If you get rid of Joe Flacco who would you get that's any better? How long have teams like the Browns and the redskins been looking for a QB? What kind of record do those teams have?

Tough loss but I thought our coaching staff did about as good a job as they ever have. Offense struggled a bit but give the Denver D credit. They are no pushover. Thought for the day, at least for me, is 'How do you replace #55?'. God bless ya T Sizz.

It's incredible how we can't seem to win these big games in the regular season. Almost as if we are forever doomed to be a 5 seed and play playoff games on the road. The defense played awesome. Especially the secondary and we were missing Melvin. We could have let the Defense and Tucker win that game if we played smart with a late lead. And then somehow Flacco makes a final drive and Steve Smith forgot how to catch the ball when it matters. What a shame.

First real game of the season and it's unfair to expect the team to be operating at peak efficiency. Ravens were in it and had their chances but a win on the road, against the contender-Broncos was a long-shot. Two weeks to workout the kinks and an Oakland game in the middle before divisional games begin.

High praise and compliments to Tyrod Taylor; he's living his dream.

Tsizz is a terrible loss ... end of story.

If SSS catches that ball for the winning TD, what would all of you be calling Flacco? Joe Cool. The reason his numbers were bad is simple -- Denver's defensive line completely dominated the Ravens offensive line. Ravens had NO running game. Practically every time Joe threw a pass, he was hurried and hit. And where was Trestman's special game plan for teams that like to turn up the heat? The only evidence I saw the whole game was that pitch to Forsett on the final drive.

I think that what lost the game for us was the level of play by the OL. The OL was supposed to be one of our strengths, but yesterday it didn't provide adequate protection for Joe and it didn't provide anything near consistent open lanes for the running game. The one drive in the fourth quarter when we, actually, still could have pulled out a win was the only time all day that our offense could do Anything. Losing Monroe probably didn't help because Ware really manhandled Hurst. For the first time I think Joe actually looked a bit rattled and who could blame him. He was Constantly under pressure and getting hit. The last drive was So disappointing, though. After stinking up the joint all day the offense just needed one more catch to win that game. And the chance was there. Kind of a heartbreaking loss there.

This is why Flacco is not as good as the Rodgers and Bradys if this world. You can never trust him not to make a bone head play like the interception in the third. Yes sometimes he plays really well, and I understand he played against a great defense and he was under pressure all day, but he is too inconsistent and always has a stupid interception/play in him which you do not see as much in the Great Qbs of the league. Lost the playoff game last year with an interception, lost yesterday with an interception. Had the feel of the old ravens yesterday, offense struggles, Defense bails them out...

Upshaw needs to be huge the rest of the season. Get better fast Sizzle. I really hope he doesn't retire he sounded like he was debating about it at the beginning of training camps. Ravens are still a good football team the defense looked amazing but the offensive line needs to give Flacco protection to throw. I wish there were a little more slants yesterday when the O-line was doing bad. Steve needs to catch those big catches. Only if Crockett held on two seconds longer to get his feet down to get the touchdown before the interception. Solid game against another solid team inside their home field. Time to get back up and play Oakland.

I listened to this on the radio yesterday, and I was not happy. But on the bright side our defense looked more than ready to play though. Good job Jimmy for that pick!

I didn't think we used our Tight Ends enough in the passing game. Without Perriman and a running game, I thought the Te's would have been targeted frequently. Not sold on the hurry up game plan against teams sending pressure.

Fans are funny creatures, we gripe, moan, whine, and overreact to things some believe are unattainable and can't be fixed, people have bad games folks it happens these are humans, the offense wasn't in sync today, now when they go and blow out Oakland next week you people will be singing their praises, now what's really disappointing is that some of you are so naive and caught up in fantasy numbers and madden like stats that you fail to realize just how good this team is and can be. This team has the potential to be great and dominate, a real contender. Point is there are more positives than negatives.

thank you. It still amazes me how flacco has one bad game (against a top tier defense, and with no protection mind you) and ppl are already starting to trash him again. I thought we were past this. Anyway, I'm thrilled about our defense, even with the loss of sizzle. We just shut down a hall of fame qb and allowed 0 offensive Tds. The loss hurts, but once we get perriman and tali back we are gonna start rollin. We lost to a very good team yesterday, and we very well could have easily snuck outta there with a win.

EllicottRaven said it best last night prior to the end of the game...  He spoke of the Mile High Miracle.  Said that the chances of Joe taking the ball down the field 80 yards and winning the game would be a second miracle...  and that Miracles actually do happen...

Well folks.  Joe did take the team almost completely down the field...  and was two drops away from a win.  I wouldn't put this one on Joe at all.....  (except maybe that Talib Pick).  But all in all, he did what Joe does.  And if you want to discount the "Joe Cool" thing...  then you can have at that.  He did what he does...  Took the team down the field and gave us a shot at a "W"
