Terrell Suggs Tears Achilles - Out for Year

Is he still not IRd?

I would have to think that is going to happen today. In order for us to get Babin on the practice field, which we're going to want to do as soon as possible, we have to make room.

If Taliferro  is ready to play against The Raiders then The Ravens can just cut Mcgee to help make room of Babin especially if they think Suggs may have a chance to play this season.

I don't know why, but I decided to read the "Suggs Tears Achilles" posts on one of the Steelers forums, there are some truly disgusting folks out there.  I would say 10% of them respect Suggs and what he brings to the rivalry, but the other 90% are just classless.

That is a possibility on how we can get Babin on the practice field without making the move to IR Suggs. I'm not so sure that LT is ready, though. The team may be willing to roll the dice, since Allen looked decent on Sunday, but if it turns out that LT isn't healthy enough to go, that's pretty risky.

Even so, are you envisioning we'll carry a dead spot on our roster indefinitely in the hopes that Suggs might be able to return? That seems like some serious wishful thinking. Not all tears are created equal, so maybe they'll want to get a better idea of the severity, but even if it wasn't a complete tear, recovery time is not short.

I've seen a lot of comments saying it was karma for the hit on Bradford in the preseason. Please

Karma for a legal hit. James Harrison and Ryan Clark have some karma bearing down on them, then.

It's not the first time Suggs tore his acl and came back . I just was wondering if The Ravens will waiting to see how bad Suggs acl tear really is then decide what to do with him. He hasn't had surgery yet to my understanding so we shall see.

I see both sides here and there's two key pieces of data left unmentioned although my reading of this discussion is brief: the timeliness of surgery and the absolute announcement from the team that he's done for the year.

The argument for him returning is he hasn't yet had surgery, the extent of the injury is unknown to at least the public, possibly hasn't even had the injury confirmed, and still isn't officially IRed and so could return to the team. The argument against his return is he may already have had tests confirming his tear, its severity, and the team announcement confirms this.

Strangely, you'd think Suggs would have surgery immediately after the injury but the swelling probably hasn't yet resolved so that may explain it. Furthermore, why would the team announce he's done for the year only to not IR him? That seems strange.

I think Suggs hasn't been IRed yet because we're waiting for Babin to pass his physical. You can't have 52 guys and wait for Babin to pass his physical.

The problem is, the last time this happened (Achilies), it happened before OTAs. This happened in week 1 of the season.

Suggs suffered the injury in late April, went under the knife on May 8 and returned on Oct. 21. By all accounts, that return was pretty miraculous. If he does in the same timetable, we're looking at a return somewhere in February.

That, of course, is assuming the injury is the same. I understand the point, that we may want to get a better look at the severity. I don't think they wait more than a few days after some more careful evaluations. If he isn't IRd by the end of the week, then they may be on the fence as to whether surgery is needed. If not, I'd be stunned. If he goes under the knife, return is virtually impossible.

Forget about age and past injuries for a second.

Does anyone really thing that T Sizzle plans on going out like this?

No way he retires off of an injury. Not Suggs

You're talking sense! Tell them!

Sizzle is like the Bane of the NFL .... Every time the nfl thinks he is gone he re-emerges with more strength then before .... well he said he liked a villain role

Terrell Suggs not even considering retirement. Will begin rehab soon and will play in '16 whether for Ravens or elsewhere (has $4.5M salary)

Sizzle doesn't seem like the guy who would go out on any other terms then his own. But i do think without the injury and based upon the success of the team, he may have thought about this being his final year.

I've been saying this since it happened. Lol at those who thought he'd retire.

Based on some things said in camp I thought it would at least be a consideration of his, although highly unlikely.

The thing is that Suggs isnt even that old. These days with all of the advancements in conditioning, and less full contact practices, these guys are playing at a high level into their late 30's and beyond sometimes..just look at Smith Sr.

There's no doubt in my mind that Suggs can return next season and play once again at a high level. Maybe now that we have some guys getting a solid years experience, they will be able to rotate Suggs more and keep him fresh/ limit chances for re injury...which brings me to the next point. ..

The Surgeons that work on these guys are the best of the best, and many times the ligament or tendon that they fix is stronger than it was before. Couple that with top flight rehab and trainers, odds are he doesn't need to retire.

Suggs seems older than he really is because he came to us at younger age than most.

Well I've been in quasi-mourning since we lost the Denver game and on top of it lost Sizzle for the year. I'm just kind of finished with my grieving process just in time for the Raiders game. I want us to win this game for my own sake fellas! I can't grieve all over again. I need to recuperate with a huge win! Let's go Ravens!

With Sizzle gone, we've lost great leadership on our D. I can only hope Canty, Webb, Doom, Smith and Jimmy are up to filling the void and regain our defensive mojo! As for our offense I don't really know how it'll work out against a potent pass rush of the Raiders but we can pray and hope for the best.

As a result of the injury I was curious to look back at the 2003 NFL draft and see where players are/were at in their careers compared to Suggs. Terrific draft and a lot of guys are still playing; Andre Johnson, Carson Palmer, Charles Tillman, Anquan, Witten, Gates, Romo  and Mathis. Guys like Polamalu, Nnamdi, McGahee, Dallas Clark, Lance Briggs have retired.

Suggs is now 32 years old while a lot of those guys are now 33/34. I guess the point is when you look at Terrell compared to those other guys he definitely has some miles left on him. We know he can rehab an achilles and come back, and a year off will be good for the rest of his body. Lets hope he comes back and finishes in Baltimore.

We're 6 weeks into the season now and still feeling the sting of Sugg's injury.  Ray Lewis even addressed the Ravens issues the other day on First Take in mentioning (along with the multiple injuries and lack of talent at various positions) that this present day Ravens team has to now "create" their own identity.

And, as much as many cats in here hate and despise to hear that word "leadership" being mentioned....it is what it is.  A few moments ago on the NFL Network, David Breer mentions..under the caption; "Suggs' Void in Baltimore" the following.....

"There's an intrinsic value that Suggs brings to the Ravens that they have absolutely missed.  Talking to players and coaches who've worked there in the past, who've been through that building over the course of the first 6 weeks of the season; they say that there is something that is absolutey missing in the Ravens.  That identity is gone!

Remember, they have always had these fiercesome links to their defensive past and those guys have started to leave the building over the last few years.  Ray Lewis and Ed Reed have been gone for three years now Haloti Ngata was traded in the offseason and Suggs was really the link to that proud past.

So, to opponents at least, this looks like a team that is very much searching for its identity.  The long term upside here for the Ravens is that guys like C.J. Mosley, the younger guys in that group are going to have to step up now and show some LEADERSHIP as they try to dig themselves out of a 1-5 hole."
