The good, bad and ugly vs Broncos

NTM having no real game film on that defense. First game of the year is very difficult for many teams. After that, everybody has some film to study.

As a mod he should know using logic on these boards is an unwritten illegality. Shame.

Yup. Trestman is fine. no doubts once Monroe and Perriman return we'll be good

Can't expect trestman to come in and in our first game against a top defense without one of his main weapons to light the world on fire... Takes time

I believe the strategy was to play conservative on offense establish the run and mix in some passes. This is the reason many of the Ravens' games are close like the Denver game. Ravens may lose some but will/should win more than they lose.

Question is, will someone step up in Suggs' absence and how much will losing him cost the defense. Hopefully not as much as the cost of losing Jimmy Smith last season.

The good thing about replacing Suggs is that Rush OLB can be an rotational position. You really couldn't rotate for Jimmy, you needed one person to lock that position down in Pees' defense. However with Suggs you can replace him with multiple guys. Now of course Suggs meant so much so it won't be as simple as throw a couple guys out there and move on, but you can have 2 maybe 3 guys fill his roll. What bothers me is the Steelers games. Sizzle usually sets the tone for those games. It'll be interesting to see how the Ravens handle that game in a couple weeks.

Suggs will be missed.

A great team is all about balance and Suggs brought an element to our defense that no one else can provide.

Judging by the Denver game, we are still a good defense. I picked us up in my Fantasy League. Wasn't convinced until the Denver game.  With Jernigan back, I'm anticipating a shut down effort this week.  Caveat, once Manning got into the shotgun in the Kansas City game, he was close to the old Manning.  Maybe our Defense and K.C.'s Defense wasn't as dominate as they appeared early.

You couldn't rotate subs for Jimmy because the talent wasn't available at CB to do so. With Suggs out you lose a bit of fear factor and need for special game planning. I will wait and see how the talent level in the rotation stacks up. It could workout well if more than one sub in the rotation proves to be more than capable or not so well if only one within the rotation proves capable.

I agree on both. Too bad they had to let McPhee walk. I hear he has yet to help his new team in a positive way, but he made his place in the Ravens' defense.

Yea, that's why it'll take 2-3 guys to replace Suggs. He's a special guy that does so much for the defense and a ton of it goes unnoticed. But while Suggs makes team plan for him, typically you won't gain a huge advantage by isolating and attacking his position like the Pats were able to do to Melvin replacing Jimmy. Now if you have a player who can't hold up against the run there then that could be a huge weakness.

Suggs was great at setting the edge and of course being able to rush. Upshaw is the closest edge setter to Suggs but he can't play both sides. So the loss of Sizzle will definitely be missed because he truly brought sizzle to this defense. It's often said that you'll never replace a Ogden, Ray or Ed, well i think you definitely have to place Suggs in that category as well. Pees has to hope that the trio of Babin, Smith and MCCellean can play close to Suggs.

Z'Darius is tiny compared to Suggs and Elvis. Probably the same size as Clowney. He might not be able set the edge.

I only expect him being brought and on passing downs and maybe when Doom or Upshaw need rest.

He's bigger than Suggs and Doom

 Smith 6-4 275

Suggs 6-3 260

He's bigger than them, but his edge setting is porous, as seen in the preseason.

Clowney is also bigger than Suggs and Doom, listed on Texans roster at 266 lb
