Around the NFL: Breakout Players

13 posts in this topic

Who around the league is poised to break out this season? Why? No real parameters, any team including our own, however many players you feel like mentioning.

I'll just start of with 2 defensive players and 3 offensive:

Defense:

Quinton Coples - OLB - Jets - Drafted in the first a couple years ago, would have gone even higher if there weren't maturity questions. Now the Jets secondary will be very good reuniting the old Revis/Cromartie duo will give the rushers more time to get to the QB, not to mention the improved DLine with the addition of Williams through the draft. He's got the skills and I expect him to get double digit sacks (my prediction is 13).

Janoris Jenkins - CB - Rams - Had a great rookie season but since has been very disappointing. I think he'll regain his form this year and be the Rams #1 CB.

Offense:

Blake Bortles - QB - Jags - Admittedly I wasn't a big fan of Bortles in last years draft, I was much higher on Bridgewater, but I liked what i saw last year. Sure he had a ton of turnovers but he also had zero run game, zero protection, zero defense, and zero running game (pretty much no help whatsoever). Coming into this season the Jags made some good moves to fix up their Oline which should help out Bortles a lot. Also the Jags receiving corps was hit with the injury bug last year, coming into this year Robinson is back which will be good for him. Also the Jags brought in a RB from the draft.

Austin Sefarian-Jenkins - TE - Bucs - The Bucs having a rookie QB will be good for ASJ's season. Rookie QBs often find solace in their TEs before their WRs. ASJ is also supremely talented and has the tools to be successful in the NFL.

Brian Quick - WR - Rams - Was having a fantastic season last year before getting injured. If he can stay healthy this year then he can turn some heads.

Austin Sefarian-Jenkins I definitely agree will be a breakout player this season.

Teddy Bridgewater started coming on strong at the end of last year.  The last five weeks of the season he was in the top 5-7 of all QBs.  He had a bad wrap coming out of college and I always liked his potential.

Crockett Gilmore is going to be a beast and in our offense with Flacco and Trestman he is going to have a very good year.

Timmy Jernigan if he can stay on the field is going to be a tremendous player.  He's constantly in the backfield.  (call him JJ Watt Jr)

Charles Johnson will be the leading WR in Minnesota and is highly underrated.

Latavius Murray is in the first year of being a starter in Oakland or anywhere for that matter and has loads of potential.  Expect him to have a tremendous year.

Chris Ivory should also have a breakout season.

Davante Adams - The packers offense won't have too much of a drop off with Adams in the lineup (even with Nelson injured)

Cody Lattimer - Should also have a breakout season in Denver.

Pretty high on Murray myself if he can stay healthy, that left side of the Raiders O-line is potent with Donald Penn, Gabe Jackson, and Rodney Hudson.

I agree with a couple of the posts above about Bortles and Bridgewater. They're gonna find their niches this year.

For the Ravens Campanaro is gonna bust out with between 60-65 catches this year after a slow start.

Wish I would've seen this thread earlier but on offense, I'll go with my boy Jarvis Landry.... think he breaks out and has a huge year. 100rec, 1,000 yards.

On defense, HaHa Clinton-Dix puts himself in the convo of top 10 S

Sorry I didn't post this before week one but here's my picks:

QB: no one steps into another tier despite some early banter of Tyrod, Mariota, etc.

Wr: John brown. He'll prove to be a number one as long as Palmer is delivering the passes.

RB: TJ Yeldon. This guy is the real deal. If the jags actually run an offense from under center he will dominate.

Ot: kelvin beachum. Still underapreciated. He's a legit top LT in the league.

Ot: jack Mewhort. At RT where he belongs. May actually get the colts running game going

G: Andrew Norwell. Played surprisingly well last year for carolina. Should improve on it.

C: Cory linsley. His play shoukd get more heralded this year.

DT: brandon Williams, carl davis, Timmy Jernigan. Will prove to be the best interior in the league

Edge: Olivier Vernon. Might get his just due and possibly overshadow his counterpart

ILB: Sean spence. A leap of faith he can even stay on the field. Despite being a Steeler his story has been remarkable.

S: tyrann mathieu. When I'm wrong I must admit it. I wanted no part of this kid coming out of college. If he puts in a full year he can be a top 5 player

CB: Xavier Rhodes. Has a chance to get in the convo with the diva CBs

Couple more...

Demarcus Lawrence. Door is wide open to prove himself right now with Gregory and the scum bag out.

Deiontrez mount. Rookie for the Titans. Wish he was here in Baltimore. Going to be a very good OLB.

Just wondering, how did no one mention Carlos Hyde? Or did he not qualify?

I loved Hyde coming in but I thought they lost too much on the oline in the offseason for him to breakout but he's very underrated.
