[News] Ravens Secondary Can Prove Itself In Denver

I had forgotten all about Huff. Lord, between him and rookie Elam I am not surprised we gave up 7. It just kind of snowballed that second half.

Manning threw 7 TD's against guys like Michael Huff aka buster and James "i drank too much after the SB" Ihedigbo. And our offense had guys like Dallas "hopes I dropped it" Clark and rusty Brandon Stokley. I don't even remember how our TE group was.

New year new secondary new team. He might throw a couple Tds but I Also think our secondary steps up and picks off a few as well.

We were not a good football team when we played Denver in that game. I think we are much improved and will give them a good fight this time around.

A short memory is good within the game but remembering a butt whooping is something you should remember. It was clear Denver remembered the mile high miracle or as they refer to it, the "Flacco Fling", so why do our guys, other than Suggs, play off the 7 TD game. Harbaugh should be shoving it down their throats, it should be bulletin board fodder and the players should take exception to the fact that long after the game was in hand, Denver kept piling on the points. No, I don't think a short memory applies to a butt whooping.

Trust me, Harbaugh will use that game as a reminder and for preparations. Even if that game did not happen, it's Peyton Manning, that is enough to jolt any defense to be highly prepared. There is no short memory, that's just aww shucks politically correct football speak is all. They did not forget, how can they with the media all over it?

Sure, the secondary has a "chance" to prove themselves. But I don't think they're actually up to the task. I just don't see much strength in our secondary this year. It's disappointing. We seem to be scarcely better off than we were last year. Of course, a major reason for that is that we still seem to be severely injury prone. The best upgrade we could have made this offseason would have been in training staff. I really hope we start taking the health of our players seriously. Even the greatest players in the world are useless on the sidelines.

This is the big test for the secondary. If they struggle, it's going to be a loooong day.

Manning is all smiles and licking his lips ready to face one of the worst secondary in the NFL. Time to step up and show we are better than last year.

Wow, why the negative comments about the secondary folks? Let's not forget Jimmy and Will Hill are both healthy, K-Lewis will be a key addition and it will show from SUNDAY in Denver, Melvin has been studying his butt off, and Kyle Arrington excels at nickel and I am hoping he will become our second coming of Corey Graham! Cheers!

Secondary does have a lot to prove this Sunday. When I am watching this game on TV, when a Denver receiver is thrown the ball, please, oh please, have our defenders somewhere near the target. There are times last year our secondary wasn't even in the TV frame yet when the camera filmed a catch. Drove me nuts. I surely hope we are far better this year in the secondary and I feel far more optimistic this season. If the secondary comes through for us, the Ravens have a good shot at going all the way.

Secondary just have to give the front 5 time to get to Peyton. Williams, Jernigan, Davis, a fresh Canty, Suggs, Doom, Upshaw, Guy, Za'Darius are the ones who need to be at their best, because Peyton is at his worst when you can get pressure on him without blitzing. It worked in the playoff game for us and in the Super Bowl in 2013 for the Seahawks. You just need enough help in the secondary to let your front flush him out of the pocket. It's literally the only way to beat him.

I disagree kind of.  That was a talented team with a few glaring holes (Huff especially).  Too much turnover, Super Bowl hangover, etc.  I thought on a large portion of plays we played really well on D.  There were just too many single plays that blew up and gave up long scores.

The other thing overlooked is how much better it will be to have Mosley in the middle than whoever we had there in that game (Ellerbe?).  Lots of coverages were blown in those shallow crossers and slot throws, and a fair bit of the blame was on the ILBs.  Daryl is playing much better, and Mosley is a huge upgrade there.

Its just hard to go from Pathetic to Good in one year. Its was 49 to 27  with 7 touchdown passes! "Manning is the sixth quarterback in NFL history to throw seven TD passes in a game and the first since Joe Kapp for Minnesota against Baltimore on Sept. 28, 1969."  The second half will tell.

"Smith said with a laugh. %u201CLet me really think about this. Is that the one he put up seven against us? I did forget about that. I did.%u201D" Lets just hope Payton does not remind him.

I think a fair bit of the doubts you see here include the likelihood that since Rashaan Melvin and Timmy Jernigan are hurt and not practicing, they are not playing!

Flacco, Yanda, Osemele, Suggs, Dumervil, J.Smith, Webb, Juice, Upshaw, Wagner and D.Smith.

These were the only current players that actually played that game.  It's hard to use that game as bulletin board material when it doesn't even apply to 1/4th of the team.  We had some others that were way down the depth chart and didn't see time during the game (KLM, Jensen, Tyson) so I'm not counting them

Get out there and force a few mistakes and Payton can throw INT's. he has 5 in one game, so he aint perfect. The key here is to control the clock on offense, score on possessions, close the gaps on Defense, dont let Payton pick his first option and release Suggs and Doom up the middle to force the play outside!! Go Ravens!

Since this article is about the secondary, I feel compelled to say this. I had my doubts when we drafted Jimmy Smith because of some things I read about his past. Since Jimmy has been on this team, I see how hard he has worked in honing his skills as a cornerback and I have become a real fan of Jimmy. Sorry I doubted you Jimmy, I was wrong and I fully admit I was wrong. I am glad Jimmy Smith is a Raven and I wish him a good healthy season!

I have a ton of doubts about our secondary. I hope they can ease my lingering concerns over the past two years. I am hopeful that we won't get decimated like 2 years ago. Also, we need to win this game and by as big a margin as possible to ease that pain. Yes, they put a hurtin' on us that many are still feeling. Besides, we want to win every game this year, at least we want some home playoff games, so let's shoot for all of those goals, Go RAVENS!!!!!

The secondary proved themselves against the pats! The Ravens were in a position to win it all but THREW it all away! Throwing a TD with a minute plus on the clock would have put that game on the secondary to save it SMH! They good in my eyes just help them like the D Line does until they Gel!

Getting pressure on Peyton will help the secondary a ton.

The secondary will have to hit them at the line because Payton is to fast. If the secondary is playing off like they have been doing It will be a long night and Webb will get hurt.
