[News] Michael Campanaro Tops Ravens' Returner Depth Chart

41 posts in this topic

Why is Camp at the head of the depth chart? Ravens just signed a proven returner in Jeremy Ross.

Ross is on the practice squad and he is 220 lbs and slow... I think all of the above negative posts about Camp being the returner will be silenced very soon. He will be a special punt returner. The coaches have been watching him catch punts in practice since last year. They know what there doing. He had a live punt return against Phili in practice that he housed.

As far as Kick Return, I would rather see someone else back there for that. Maybe a long strider. But we literally don't have anyone else. Even Magee mis-judged a ball in the last pre season game and let it bounce instead of fielding it.

Beside watching Camp ply his talents this weekend, I'll compare him to our oid friend Jacoby Jones in SD.  I wish Camp luck and want all injury voodoo released.  Fellow fans: only days and hours to go ...

Doesn't sound like we have much of a choice having Camp on special teams until they get a chance to check out these new additions. It is concerning to see him take the role, but in all honesty if he can't stay on the field on special teams, than how can we depend on him at WR.

I'm a huge supporter, but prove your worth and shake this injury stuff...

I'm a little Leary having him back there, but id much rather have somebody who makes SMART decisions and actually catches the ball. He also hopefully will avoid any big hits. Like it's been said many times, most of the balls will be fair catches and touch backs anyway. And we aren't really sure he will be the KR anyway , they may only have him at PR. I just want somebody out there who will catch the ball, take a knee when necessary, take a fair catch when necessary , and take some yards if they are available but protect the ball, do not run backwards, get out of bounds and avoid big hits. Sounds like a tall order but it's really not that difficult.. Just play it Conservative unless a big play is needed.

Great call. Camp might not take one to the house but will get us great consistent starting field position, which hasn't always happened in the past.

I guess Ravens will give up any hope of touchdown returns for someone just to hang on to the ball.

much better than having a turnover isn't it? Kick returns for touchdowns rarely happen anyway , even jacoby only had like 2 in 2013 and how many last year?

I would feel much better about Camp fielding KR/PR in addition to his WR duties if the Ravens had kept T. Nelson.  I always thought that Nelson could sub in for Camp if injured at the WR position.  Camp's injury history is worrisome.

I know that Campanaro is the most sure handed prospect for the job. In fact, I think he is the most sure handed receiver we have on the whole team. But, with his injury history, I would rather he be used only as a receiver in the hopes that he can avoid further injuries. I believe that he can be a real, and deadly, weapon as a slot receiver and he can'e do that if he's injured again. Punt returns are definitely some of the most dangerous plays in the game. Fair catches, fine, but I really want this kid in our offense. I hope we try to protect him as much as possible. I know he's only on the practice squad, but Ross has some really good numbers as a returner. But, I have No idea who's place on the roster he could take. For that reason, probably not a good option. I don't know. I just want Camp healthy.
