I hope our secondary is rdy. Watching steelers db is like our last year's db...scary how much of a difference it makes.

If Melvin doesn't play, the Ravens are one play away from possibly having Walker or Brooks or Levine in a 3rd CB role. Hard to believe Peyton wouldn't immediately attack any of those guys upon entering the game. If Melvin is ruled as doubtful, you gotta wonder if Asa Jackson will be promoted for DB depth.

Obviously glad to see the NFL back on tonight, even if it is Pats in Steelers. The season is underway! I feel like I have to qualify my predictions this year based on the health of this team in comparison to the week's opponent. For example, if we were to play the Raiders this week with Jernigan and Melvin questionable/doubtful, Taliafaro sidelined, etc.  I'd still say we get the job done. However, it's not Oakland but Denver - actually Denver on the road. So, while I hope we win, and do believe that an earlier post identifying that playing press and taking away short throws from Manning to force him to attemtp to muster up the strength to go deep could work, hope don't get the job done. On the record, I predict Denver 31- Baltimore 17.

I think they're going to get chewed up pretty badly, either way.  I have a feeling that Jimmy is going to have a bit of a statement game.  But the others...  Still think we pull it off, but we'll need a mistake to do it, I think.  Toss up game in my head.  So hard to call, too many unknowns.

great news on jernigan..im a bit more optimistic now..it will still be a struggle but this guy is a game changer.

if we get interior push it changes a lot

My thoughts exactly, Sami.  Before he was injured, I was already thinking he was the key to this one.  Being under center requires quite a bit more mobility than it seems, and they have an unproven, young o-line.  Having Peyton under center in Kubes' system, with an on Jernigan, and it has potential to be somewhat comedic.  Like, screw the system, I'll calling audibles all night kind of funny.  Ahhhh, one can dream...

After watching the Steelers patch work secondary get embarrassed it kind of makes you appreciate that we actually have a legit top 10 CB (arguably top 5) in Jimmy, an elite SS in Will Will, a competent FS in Kendrick Lewis, and a solid CB in Arrington.

William Gay is the only guy in their entire secondary worth the paper his contract is signed on lol. Cortez Allen's doppelganger is a piece of burnt toast.

I think our secondary is better than a lot of people realize this year. Having Jimmy back is HUGE, Arrington is a nice new piece, and Kendrick Lewis is a considerable upgrade over Darian Stewart imo as well. While I think this might be a rough showing for the secondary week 1, as the season progresses I think they will hit their stride as a unit. As of right now we still have a lot of unanswered questions like what is the best way to use Arrington? Do we go with Melvin or Webb opposite Jimmy? (assuming both are healthy). How will Kendrick Lewis' play style mesh with our scheme and what adjustments will he have to make to his game? As we figure those things out throughout the season I think we will see a nice finished product by the end of the season if our ringers stay healthy.

Regardless the outcome, the teams facing head to head wont be the same two teams that can potentially face eachother in the post season. Demaryius has been holding out and has had little camp time with our 1's this off season, Peyton's got his ? marks, and our o-line is completely suspect.

I am hoping these are things that our coaching can pan out as the season progresses. Eitherway, this should be a really good game. I have a lot of respect for the Baltimore franchise and Harbaugh. I stand with the majority in hoping that we get to the end of this game injury free.

I will admit, Doom was one of my favorite guys to suit up in Denver Orange. It will be a tear jerker to see him returning home to Denver sacking our QB..

I co-sign this 100%. What worries me is our D-line - that's where this game will be won or lost. Stopping their run will be huge but if we can put some inside pressure on Manning as well, we should be able to to win comfortably.

I'm waiting for Manning to become Carl Davis' first sack in his pro career.

Jernigan is back.  We have Doom and Sizzle...  There's Upshaw...  and let us not forget Mosley and Smith.  Not really worried about our front 7.  We have one of the most dangerous D-Line's in the league right now.

This is our first game without having a speed threat in years. We need Aiken or Waller to have the best games of their lives.

This is gonna be a tough game, I'm not sure if kubiak completely implemented his offense or if he's gonna let manning do his thing, if its kubiaks offense the key is gonna be stopping the run game and shutting down DT cause kubes loves to force feed his number 1 receivers. On the offensive side we have to get the ball out quick and hope Monroe can handle miller and ware, I feel forsett is gonna have a ton of catches this game, I don't see our wide outs being very effective against their secondary.

........or scheme a bit differently. I'm sure Trestman will work with what he has at his disposal.  It boils down to execution.

My concern for the secondary is the cushion Pees always seems to give. Doesn't matter how good they are if we are playing 10 yds off. Hoping the leash is released and they get to actually play.

Majority? It better be all. No one in their right mind should root for injuries.

My best friend is a Broncos fan so in that sense I have respect for you guys as well. I think I've said this before, but if I haven't, I'll say it now: this game could go either way.

It's also my understanding that Peyton doesn't like Kubiak's scheme...  or to poo poo it "he's not fond of it".  That can make a huge difference.  Takes some of the power away from Kubiak....  but also takes a little from Manning as well.  I think this is not as bad a matchup as people are making it.  If that is the case, then they may be at a disadvantage implementing it.

I think it is a mistake for anyone to believe that Kubiak went into Denver planning on fully implementing his offensive scheme.  Peyton is just not built for the type of offense that Kubiak likes to run, and they knew this well before Gary even landed in Denver.  Can you imagine Kubiak telling Peyton to call a play where he's going to roll out of the pocket?  Peyton would just laugh in his face and audible to a play with him in the shotgun.

I fully believe that Kubiak is going to run a hybrid scheme using his ZBS heavy schemes on runs and allowing Peyton to be Peyton on passing plays.  I really won't be surprised if they are SB champs come February.

Other than Jimmy Smith, are the Ravens CB's really that physical enough to play up closer to the WR's?

Absolutely...  and that's where I believe it puts them at a disadvantage...  Just my opinion...  but seems like you are then running a morphed scheme...  that neither party (Kubiak or Manning) knows or even does what the other is planning.

RB Lorenzo Taliaferro (knee) and CB Rashaan Melvin (thigh) returned for #Ravens today.

Wow, want expecting that. Everyone's healthy but Perriman. Really hope Melvin's active in the Broncos game. Webb's still a question Mark, of Melvin's active we can take Webb out immediately if things get shaky.
