Week One Discussion (Other Teams)

1,002 posts in this topic

An article from OvertheCap.com. I can't find it now but the writer devoted a paragraph as to why Tyrod probably won't net anything despite being the starter.

Correct. OTC's early season projections expected us to net a 7th for him. Can't see any possible way where we would get a 5th, because based on OTC's projections (and they're historically quite good at this), the largest factor in the formula calculation is salary, not necessarily success.

I'd expect the ceiling for a pick for him to be a 6th, with the floor being no pick at all. Still a long way to go for us to earn a 6th for him anyway...

There's no doubt there's a long way to go. There's an entire season left. The likelihood is low that he gets anything higher than a 6th but it's certainly possible. I don't pretend to predict the future because I don't have a crystal ball but I think he very well could. I don't think he will but I'm one to not typically speak in absolutes since there's no way to know what can happen with a whole season ahead of us. If the Bills somehow unexpectedly make the playoffs and Taylor gets a Pro Bowl nod or he somehow miraculously wins a Super Bowl or All-Pro honors (highly unlikely imo) then who knows what he'll net us.

FWIW, a 7th sounds about right

Yeah without knowing the formula, its borderline impossible to predict.

But based on what I'm reading from sources like theirs, I don't even think a SB trophy or PB nod would be enough to vault him to a 5th round comp pick.

I'd take anything we get from him to be a bonus. Unfortunately, those very late comp pick rarely amount to anything for us anyway.

It seems half the SNF games are between NFC East teams

At least the next two weeks we get a break from the NFC East and get a NFC Title rematch between Seahawks & Packers and the Lions host the Broncos in week 3.

Congrats to Tyrod, he showed up big. Keep it going, youngster.

Yes he did, quite impressive. I'm a getting a Seahawks east vibe from the Bills this year. Tyrod playing the role of Wilson, the Bills defense is as good as the Seahawks defense has been during their two Super Bowl runs. Plus I forgot that Dareus was suspended for yesterday's game against the Colts, which means their defense is only going to get better with him coming back next week.

I don't know. Could be the Seahawks or could mimic what Rex's Jets did when he started coaching there. Come out of the gates hot but the headache personalities - McCoy, Harvin, sucker-puncher back-up LB, etc will come out eventually with Rex leading the circus. I do know that Tyrod will not be an embarrassment like Mark Sanchez and maybe Rex has lost some arrogance...

The offense has to keep pace or the Ryan family tradition aka crappy team chemistry will show up and make them a nightmare.

I think one of the biggest differences is the market though. You couldn't go 5 minutes without hearing something about the Jets as they are a huge market. Buffalo is not a team that really gets any attention so I think that suits what Rex does a lot better. Also believe that Ik ended up getting cut.

Lol, the fact that you said at least we get a 2 week break tells you how bad it is.

Just taking a look at the schedule for them the rest of the year, we have 4 games where at least 1 NFC East team is playing in the next 7 games but the final 8 games are surprisingly free of them. Guess that doesn't account for them flexing guys in though lol

Don't think that the week 1 Buffalo Bills models is sustainable in the long run over a whole season personally...

IK was cut but only as a move to get him on the practice squad - http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000523682/article/buffalo-bills-sign-ik-enemkpali-to-practice-squad

I don't buy that the market played into the dysfunction, maybe it only gave us a light into it. Harvin was a disruption in Minnesota and Seattle, not exactly large markets. Similar set of coaches as his Jets gig, which I understand. There was a divide even here between the defense and offense when Rex was coordinating.

We'll see in a couple of years.

Agreed but we'll see. Nothing is written in stone.

Don't underestimate the New York media, just don't. Should also bring up the terrible job the FO did at bringing in talent. Can't say that team won't fall apart in a couple years but at the same time, I don't see it happening right now and the players loved Rex, even in New York when things got bad.

Also Harvin isn't exactly a guy who brought the whole team down, he wasn't the reason Minnesota lost games(Lets have a Ponder about that one) and Seattle won a Super Bowl with him. He wasn't the reason for success either but it is hard to say that his antics brought everyone else down.

Also, the only big distraction from McCoy may have been about Chip Kelly and while I don't agree with that, he isn't the only player to bring it up.

If you want to poke holes in the Bills, I would look at Tyrod needing to make the big time throw at some point, that is their biggest question mark as I would imagine teams will stack the box and make Tyrod beat them from the pocket.

Who does everyone got winning tonight? I'm thinking Eagles and Vikings but the Falcons could beat the Eagles too, so I expect that to be a close one.

I've got the Falcons and Vikings winning, but my record with primetime games is atrocious.

Have eagles and vikes

I'm not sold on the Eagles preseason, and I think the Falcons are the big improvers this season.

This is a fun game for me to watch - Ryan and J. Jones for me and the Eagles D for JO_75 in a week1 FF matchup. I caught up but you never know with that Philadelphia defense.

Also Quinn my HC from DaF game and Benny Logan and Hageman on these two D lines.

Gruden just said that you should pay no attention to preseason wins and losses, they mean absolutely nothing. Watching the Eagles he may have a point.

I get jealous watching certain players, like Julio. I want a franchise WR. ;(

We'll get ours soon man, don't worry. Hope Perriman is the guy we've been waiting for. Not going to lie, I'm a little Jelly.

Won't complain watching the Eagles explode, I would imagine the Rams are still laughing over the Bradford trade the way he is playing right now

Man, I got to admit I'm a bit jealous watching Julio Jones play. I mean he makes Matt Ryan's job so much easier. So reliable and he must make Matt Ryan a lot more confident and comfortable knowing he has a guy he can depend on. Just watching him abuse Maxwell is a thing of beauty, lol.

Fingers crossed Perriman is the guy we've been looking for.

Knowing our luck, Julio would drop passes if we had him.
