Looks like we're waiting to add a rb. Deciding between Ball, Fitz and Magee maybe?

I think one gets brought up to the 53 once urban is officially IR DFR.

I like Magee's hard running style. My votes for him.

or maybe Charles James...He did have a 73 yd touchdown run in the preseason

I don't see it that way. Myers may have been the draft pick and nobody wants to give up on a draft pick. But Kaleb Johnson, De'Ondre Wesley and Nick Easton all played better then him. As I've said before he wasn't terrible but he didn't perform as well as those guys and a couple others.

Agreed. Hate to waste a draft pick but it happens.

As I recall Castillo really lobbied for him but he didn't show much during the preseason. Looked overwhelmed at times. Maybe he would have developed into something, but as you mentioned he was outplayed by several other young players who were more deserving.

Good luck to him though. Hope he can carve out a role in Indy. And good luck to Asa Jackson in NY as well.

If he can overcome his fumbling issue and at times poor decision making he could become a dynamic returner. But after re-watching his explosive returns this preseason were more a product of great blocking up front than him doing anything special.

Charles James the DB we added to our PS after Houston cut him?

Yes, he also played RB

Didn't know that. I could only find info on him as a DB and PR/KR, but nothing as a RB.

But admittedly I didn't know much about him prior to hard knocks and our adding him to our PS.

He played 1 whole snap at RB in the preseason - it was a TD that was called back due to a penalty.  He looked good in that 1 snap, but I think it's clear he's here as a DB.  I'd imagine his experience as a RB here is simulating someone else on the scout team.

I hear an option may be to add CJII to the 53 after we put Urban on IR, then add one of the young RBs to the PS.

I don't think he's been released from the Cardinals?

He's referring to Charles James II, formerly of the Texans, who we have already signed to our practice squad.

I think we'll be moving an RB to the 53 man, whether that be Magee or someone we are yet to snap up. I won't be surprised if - given Charles James II is reputed to be a solid ST player, that we add him to the 53 man and (attempt) to move someone else to the PS.

Having 5 ILBs and 5 CBs seems to be an imbalance to me ... given you often want 3 CBs on the field (as opposed to 2 ILBs) and the fact that 2 of the 5 ILBs are on the field for 95+% of the snaps. I won't even say which starting group has more injury issues.

I would really think that we'd bring James up to make 6 and then move Orr to the PS ... just not 100% sure he's eligible.

I really don't think the team cuts Zach Orr. If we cut any LB it'll be McClellan but even he looks safe.

Unless you think the FO is going to feel comfortable with 5 CBs (one of whom no one feels wants to put on the field at this point) something will have to give. Just saying that we seem a little heavy at the ILB position.

I suppose we can replace Urban with an RB and leave it at that, pray no one snags James and puts them on their roster and then make the move once LT returns. LT's injury is a bit more of a bugger IMO than I would have originally thought.

The common misunderstanding surrounding practice squad players is that we will lose them if they're on the practice squad. That's simply not true. We have the right to promote them to our active roster if we so choose. So it's certainly possible someone could get James, but we'd at least have the right to promote him before losing him. Not that you don't understand how this works. Just making my point.

I think Urban going to IRDR or cutting McClellan would make more sense.

Don't think Orr is in any danger.  I get the feeling that the team loves him.  I've been impressed as well.

I'd rather we cut Trawick for him

Trawick one of The Ravens better special team player so I don't think he's going any where unless they find someone better than him on special teams

Honestly think 5 CBs is the whole reason Levine made the roster, his work there last year was actually fairly decent.

The fact that he and Brooks can both play there is often overlooked.  Not ideal or top options of course, but if there's an issue in the middle of the game, I'd guess we'd call on those 2 to step up.

Practice squads can officially start being assembled in an hour and a half, so I figured we could use this thread to track the movement on who we sign.  No information yet, but I imagine it'll start rolling out around noon EST.

REPORTED ADDITIONS:

LB Brennen Beyer

WR Daniel Brown

WR Jeremy Butler

CB Charles James

OG Kaleb Johnson

FS Nick Perry

QB Bryn Renner

TE Konrad Reuland

OT De'Ondre Wesley

I'm guessing that's why they signed James...his return skill are a plus too.

You can lose a player off of your practice squad. Another team can take your PS players, as long as they sign the player and put them directly onto their roster. At least that's my understanding.

You may argue that it is highly unlikely that would happen at this stage of the game, but is a possibility.

That is correct and it does happen every year. The caveats being that 1) the player can choose not to go and 2) the "owning" team can also offer to promote the player.

Yeah, Moderator 3 summed it up for me. My point is if another team tried to sign him from us, we'd have the chance to at least activate him first. Meaning to say we'd have the right to keep him as long as we promoted him to our 53.

Right of first refusal, essentially.
