Well, looky there ... we made a move. That was a guy I was wondering if we'd consider. I just didn't know if his name was only out there because he was a "Hard Knocks" manufactured celeb player or if we'd thought he really could play. 

 

Looks like the latter!

Charles James is a good STer, if Hard Knocks is any indication, of course.  I imagine he makes his way to our roster at some point this year.

Wow that's pretty cool.. I was surprised The Texans released him because he played very well in preseason and in  training camp to my understanding.

It's a 10 man group of players that didn't make the 53 man roster, essentially.  They practice all week with the team, and for the most part, their roles are to mimic the opposing team's players so our starters can get a feel for what they like to do.  They don't play in the games.  It's kind of a development hub for young players.  Some will get moved to the 53 man roster throughout the season as injuries mount.

Players who you would like to keep, but aren't good enough to make your 53 man roster can be put on your practice squad. You have 10 spots on this squad. Before you can put anyone there, they have to "clear waivers", meaning - you cut them and then all the other teams in the league have a chance to take them away. If no one takes them, then you can put them on the practice squad. 

 

Players on your practice squad can still be grabbed by other teams after they clear waivers, but that team must put that player on their 53 man roster (so a team cant just take one of your PS players and put them on their PS). 

 

As everything in the NFL, there are deeper rules to it all, but that is the basics.

Ravens also announce that Jeremy Butler, TE Konrad Reuland and OT De'Ondre Wesley have been signed to practice squad.

Gray is available. Ball is out there and waiting to clear waivers. Have to wonder if we'll have interest in either of them. 

 

Then once that happens, it will be interesting to see who we put on the 53 man, once Urban is officially placed on the IR DFR. I think it would likely be an RB. I wouldn't rule out one more PS player getting moved to the roster

I believe Mcgee will make it to the active roster (After Urban is placed IRDR) if there is no other big name and young RB available on the wire. Toussant will take up the last spot on the PS. At least that is what I think.

How did Jeremy Butler, Daniel Brown & Renner clear waivers? I thought they were all just too good? Some GMs are about to get fired around the NFL starting tomorrow.

I don't see it that way. Myers may have been the draft pick and nobody wants to give up on a draft pick. But Kaleb Johnson, De'Ondre Wesley and Nick Easton all played better then him. As I've said before he wasn't terrible but he didn't perform as well as those guys and a couple others.

I'm not that broken up over losing Myers. I think I would've liked to keep Easton with our issues at center years back, and with the OK play I've seen from Zuttah. Still, it's over and one and no reason to cry over it. Better to get a draft pick than to have him go to the Browns. I'm surprised they haven't signed any Ravens this year. I think this has to be the first in years.

I think one gets brought up to the 53 once urban is officially IR DFR.

I like Magee's hard running style. My votes for him.
