[News] Who Will Be Returner After Asa Jackson Cut?

74 posts in this topic

In Ozzie we tend to trust... but I'm not sure about this one. But then again, I was not at training camp, so I didn't see what they saw. The season is 4 months long, and I'm sure that Asa could have gotten better as the season wore on. But they know way more than I, so I really can't complain. I also think that it was time to let Jah Reid go as well. He's a guy with lots of potential, but never really got chugging. I'm sure that someone will find value with them both. I'm glad that Waller made it... that dude seems to catch everything that's thrown at him.

I really like Shane Wynn, a wideout from the Browns who they cut getting down to 75. He can be effective in the receiving game, but more importantly he is a dynamic returner

Webb is playing poorly at corner and as far as I'm concerned is expendable. Melvin is playing better than he is. So let Webb return kicks. at least he won't fumble, hopefully. He is still a pretty quick, shifty runner. I actually thought they would keep Vaughn and cut Webb.

I hope Ozzie has a few moves left. We need a corner back badly. A returner would be nice as well...I thought he would have snapped up Jennings and Holliday, both would have been signficant upgrades.

I also see no harm in letting Campanaro return kicks for as long as he stays healthy which probably won't be very long at all.

This is ridiculous. There is not ONE player at any position that is a threat...not one. 5 win season at max.

So, you dont think that Joe, Steve Sr, Justin F, Crokett, Max W, AIkin, Juzczek, are threats??  The loss of Torry is the only difference on this years offense; with Waller and Brown to step up...this is what must be expected. Perriman is the only let down. 11-5 should work Time to take the division

I expect Oz to pick up a diamond in the rough. Is Easton staying with the team, i heard he is being traded. Somewhere there will be a spot open. It would be nice to pick up a speedster with punt and kick return ability. Maybe a running back, CB or WR.

Jacoby Ford was released by the Titans he has return experience, interesting they also released WR Tre McBride a draft name the Ravens had on their watch. Dont know what kind of camp they had? Im sure Oz is looking at all options.

I'm going to say it, trading Anquan Boldin has really hurt the Ravens, especially since the Ravens FO was trying to make Asa Jackson the replacement for Boldin.

So, no Asa Jackson, no clarity on who our punt and kickoff returner will be.

If we are going with existing players, I would say Campanaro if he can remain healthy, Steve Smith Sr., or Ladarius Webb.

If the Ravens FO will look at cut players from around the league, I would like the FO to look at Trindon Holliday whose name stands out because I recall Holliday returned a punt for a 90 yard touchdown and then returned a kickoff for a 104 yard touchdown in a single game against the Baltimore Ravens in a 2012 playoff game and Jacoby Ford, I've seen his name pop up a lot when it comes to a very speedy returner.

Webby can actually play Dime CB with Jimmy, Melvin, and Arrington. Camp and Webb should handle the duties. Hopefully they can stay healthy. I am so happy we signed Arrington cause he eliminates the question marks that we could have in the secondary.

For the returner job, I really miss Jacoby Jones. Haven't seen anyone else show at least flashes of the excitement he could produce. However, I am well aware that cutting him when we did was necessary. Right now I'd test Webb if he's healthy. Melvin can cover his CB position if necessary. Steve Smith might do well, but he on the other hand is irreplaceable.

Looks like some fans have a crystal ball and can predict how many wins we will have. 5 wins, give me a break. Are you serious ? Not one real game has been played yet and it is doom and gloom for some. NO ONE knows what the season will bring yet. I am quite sure our roster will change again so let's be patient and see what happens. Go Ravens.

We still talking bout Boldin? Please explain to me how Jackson was supposed to replace him.

KO we just need someone to kneel it most of the time .

PR we need someone who can catch it and dont fumble and also can make the right call to let it bounce or not.

Webb/smith can handle PR duties depending from where the opponent punts and camp can handle KO duties.

got enough faith in flacco and the offense that we dont have to rely on special teams to move the ball down the field.

Kick returners are of little need in today's NFL. Most KOs sail deep into the end zone or out of it. Very few of Justin Tucker's kicks get returned. Jacoby lost the coaches favor by making poor decisions and returning kickoffs to the 12 or 17 yard line instead of taking a knee. Sure, a KO returned for a TD is exciting but devoting a roster spot with that expectation is not realistic. What we really need is a guy to make good decisions and, more often than not, take a knee ... no need to keep Asa.

At least 2 games a year come down to field position and kick returns. We know where we stand at P/K R. I still don't see one here but the chance to grab one through a trade/cuts is a reality. The Ravens need a KR threat to be a real contender in all phases of the game.

I like the wedges and lanes the Special Teams return team has given the PK return candidates so far. We need the quickness and speed to finish returns off. There were points to be had.

Asa definitely was not the answer and cutting him was, no doubt, the right thing to do. I do not believe Camp, SSS, or Webb should be used as returners. Camp, too fragile and too good a receiver out of the slot. SSS, our #1 receiver so he's too valuable to take the chance putting him back there. Webb, although not as good a CB as he was, too fragile and still needed in the secondary. So, Ozzie, you NEED to bring the best guy available to be our returner. We don't have a good candidate for the job. I have No idea who to cut to make room for him so he's gotta be able to offer something else besides just returning kicks and punts. Make it happen, Oz.

Texans cut Charles James at the last second to get to 53 and probably give as little time as possible for teams to consider him before bringing him back to the PS.

We've grown accustomed due to Jacoby to see the KR/PR role as a WR, but this guy is a servicable CB, a shifty and speedy RB, and a really good gunner on kick coverage.

May be worth a shot.

I think some of the people on here complaining need a reality check. Our Team is a perennial success story. I think those who whine about Ozzie's decisions and Harbaugh's coaching need some football therapy. To sit down with a fan of one of the perennial failures, say, a Browns fan. It would be a great conversation. Browns fan - "So, let me get this straight, you have been to the playoffs AND won at least one game 6 out of the last 7 years, been to 3 AFC championship games, and won a Superbowl, and you're complaining?". Whiner - "Well, yeah, but Ozzie cut some players". Browns fan - "I get excited when my team has a record better than .500. I'm going to go openly weep thinking about watching your team in the playoffs again this year."
