[News] Daniel Brown Among Five Ravens Cuts

If we are still thin along the defensive front Dockett would be a nice addition if the price was right. I hope Brown makes the practice squad at least.

So far nothing too surprising, Brown never had a chance to make the roster, possibly PS though. Pointer played pretty well but we are crowded in the secondary and Pointer didn't really emerge from the group

I can't see Brown being unemployed for very long.

He won't be, he should be employed on our practice squad. Another team could pick him up for special teams MAYBE, but I don't think he will be picked up as a WR

it was a smart thing to do to cut some of the guys we want on our practice squad now. Most teams will wait to see what veterans and if any goodies will be cut tomorrow giving our guys a better chance to clear waviers.

Let me get this right, the Ravens are going into 20150 with one receiver retiring, two injury pron, one that has been cut by three teams, a rookie that did nothing in preseason and M Brown. GOOD LUCK JOE.

Hate to see Daniel Brown slip through our fingers if he gets picked up by another team but this is not an unexpected cut. Congrats to Daniel for a great effort last night, he couldn't have done any better job to prove his talent and worth. Daniel has earned a decent shot for the practice squad. Thanks for the exciting plays which got us back in the game last night. Good luck, Daniel.

I get that we're all hyped up on Brown thanks to last night, but one game against third/fourth string backups is not enough to establish the guy as someone worthy of a roster spot. Practice squad, maybe, it depends on how he looked in practice all summer, and we didn't get to see that.

I'm bummed that Tom Nelson was cut, though. He has played well throughout the pre-season (including last night, when he was the first WR to actually establish anything resembling a good night). I understand why they want to give guys like Waller and Butler a chance first, but Nelson seemed like a far more trustworthy option with better hands. Just my opinion.

But last night was not the only time Brown looked good... He had some other plays that looked good in the earlier pre-season games too.

Just curious did we try Brown at kick returner? If not I wonder why not?

I don't think I've ever seen a 6'5" kick returner lol.  I imagine he's not fast or quick enough.

Brown stats in preseason are better than everyone but Steve. Two 6'5 receivers we could have called them the twin towers and have Steve and Cap running around under them.

He had a TD in Philly (during silly time, again when the opponent was on their 4th string defense).  I'm not denying he might have talent, but given he had just as much of a shot as other UDFAs like Jeremy Butler, why wasn't he getting reps with the 1st or even 2nd teams?

First of all he was being used as the right side pass rusher on the Niners. After his surgery word is he isn't explosive. Also, as a vested veteran his base salary will be fully guaranteed if they pick him up before the start of the regular season. If there is any interest in him at all, he will be contacted after the first regular season game imo.

I cant deny that he made plays against lesser talent. However with the exception of Renner and Brown did anyone really make plays when given the opportunity and I am not talking a catch here or there but plays that either scored or kept drives alive that lead to scores. Those are the bubble players that should make a squad. As far as him getting chances with the first and second stringers that's the coaches call but the guy shined when it was time and even blocked a punt to boot.

Kamar looked great last year.  He's been pretty limited in pre-season reps this year.  Waller and Butler have had solid performances against better competition (1st and 2nd strings).  Camp looked good in pre-season action prior to the injury and also looked good last year.  Waller, Butler, and Camp have had great practices, which is where the majority of evaluation goes on.  Brown probably deserves a PS spot (though it's going to be tricky given the weird injury issues going on at various positions).  There's just not enough on him against legitimate competition to justify taking a roster spot away from more established guys.

I did not know that thanks for the info and good point.

Still 17 more to go i hope waller makes it. Brown i think he will end up on the practice squad. I cant see us going with 5 wideouts. i see 7 with waller and butler making it for the very reason that we have 3 injury riddled players.

He's not exactly the ideal returner body type. Also, I guess Rosburg knows why he tries certain players for returner and why not others... He saw Brown, he knows what he's capable of... If he decided he gives chance for a running back rather than Brown, there must be a reason - even if we don't know what it s.

Agreed and good point. I do think Aiken and a few others deserve a spot above Brown but I just hope Brown stays on the practice squad at least and maybe he can really have a chance to develop for the future and if they decide to only go with 2 QB's I hope Renner gets a spot on the practice squad to develop.

Good point Bio but we have all seen the supposed NFL experts/coaches say they only like certain body types and certain guys to play certain positions on the field get proven wrong time and time again. Your guess is as good as mine as to why Brown was not seen trying out as a returner. You got to admit a big gangly guy could be fun / interesting to watch return kickoffs though.

Our backup defense guys showed great physicality and point of attack in that falcons game. Everyone had a few mistakes but they all showed good potential.

I really hate to see T. Nelson and D. Brown get cut.  With the propensity to injuries that some of our WR's have shown in the past, I hope we don't end up regretting this decision, just sayin'.
