[News] Asa Jackson A Difficult Decision For Ravens

31 posts in this topic

Watching him this preseason, I am critical...but I have not seen him in practice. I guess they will have to make their decisions based on everything they saw, so we shall see very soon.

Asa has actually shown a few glimpses of brilliance in the return game. Unfortunately, Asa has been a game changer for the other team as well. Asa was not in very good control of emotions last night which may have added to his blunders. Felt sorry for him but the mistakes were too costly. I ended up getting nervous before Asa's returns, anticipating disaster as well as a possible great run back. The potential is there but the question is whether the FO feels that these costly mistakes can be cleaned up or not. If very uncertain, the FO needs to decide if it is worth the experiment of finding out.

Agreed...  I'm an underdog kinda person.  I like the kid.  I think he's got so much potential.  I think he's trying too hard.  He's been decent in the past, but whenever it seems like he's having a good day/game/season, he has gotten hurt.  We need the depth in our secondary.

I like Cassius Vaughn over Asa... but I feel like we will keep ASA bc the CB advantage is slight for Vaughn while ASa can contribute more on ST and he was a draft pick (investment by the team) that the Ravens do not like to give up on! I will still keep Vaughn however!

Jackson's 25 years old and shows potential? This means, by the time he's 30, he will catch the football, run through defenders, cross the goal line and most important, will not fall down. I think we should keep him. He adds that unexplainable element to the game like no one knows what will happen when Asa takes off with the football.

We cut Jacoby Jones to save what, $3 million? Looks like we will have to spend that much to replace Jacoby. I was hoping the Ravens would never released Jacoby earlier this year, thinking he really does not cost that much. Plus we could have used him part time while Perriman heals. I understand the Ravens did not like Jacoby's hesitation at times but what returner does not hesitate from time to time? I hope there is a returner out there who was released or whatever that will not caused me to cringe every time another team punts or kicks off. Releasing Jacoby was one of the rare times I disagree on the Ravens moves. Maybe they have someone in mind we don't know about yet.

Knew we would miss Jacoby. Good guy who delivered for us time and time again. Hated that we let him go. Maybe he will be released lol. Just wishful thinking on my part.

im definitely of the opinion that we need to move on from asa. however, i cant begin to imagine the pressure hes been under this preseason which culminated with him dropping his second punt return in as many weeks. its unfortunate because i have been rooting for him since he was drafted, but returners in this league must at a bare minimum be able to actually handle the kickoffs! although i feel that his fumbles were more mental lapses rather than lack of ability, last night really sealed his fate especially considering that he doesnt bring much in terms of coverage and overall defensive ability

pressure? We need a returner with ice in his veins!

Asa gave it his best effort. The Ravens need to look further for the answer. Bring in some help. Can't risk Smith Sr at P/KR even though he would probable love to do it.

oh no doubt which is why asa's getting the pink slip...some people are able to thrive under pressure like joe flacco and other people just flatline and unfortunately asa looks like he falls in the latter category

Vaughn is a bit better than Asa as a CB, but ideally neither one should be anything more than depth that you hopefully never need. I think I'd give Asa the spot over Vaughn and let him field kicks until he fumbles one (all of his errors were on punts in preseason). Have someone else field punts (SSS, Camp, Webb).

I have been saying all along prior to the draft that Tyler lockett was a perfect fit for the ravens having lost jacoby jones. This guy would of given us another game breaker and has seen time with the 1'S and may start in seattle.

We screwed up not picking this guy up he was a no brainer. You are a little late Drinkmorebeer....

Lockett was the 69th pick overall..

I think we keep him... But the still frame is abundantly descriptive of a glaring error in coaching or execution: the ball is practically loose BEFORE contact. If he has been coached to keep that ball close, though, then it is on him... Cannot coach speed...

Asa makes the team. however if he makes 2 fumbles in regular season he is gone...The Ravens will have players to choose form once the other teams get down to 53. I expect them to give Asa his chance in the "real" game play. Its a risk but no more than any other at this point in the scheme of things. Jacoby had fumbles too!

Asa had a few shining moments in the secondary during the pre-season. I believe he is maturing and his tackling looks to have improved. I just don't see any decent 5th CB options that show as much promise. There is always a risk when looking at low budget, young, speedy. multiple position player and fumbles will make his job short if they happen during the season.

Definitely miss Jacoby. Steve and Lardarius cannot be out Kick returners. Oz needs to work this out

Definitely not Steve. I can see us using Webb for punts, as we've done in the past (even while we had Jacoby). Receiving punts inside our own 20 and calling fair catch 100% of the time. I just think we feel like he is as sure handed as anyone we have.

Absolutely ... I think the best evidence of that was in the preseason when one time he should have fielded a punt, but let it go and we would have given up about 20 yards in field position because of it. There was a penalty and re-kick. It seemed he felt he needed to redeem himself, but compounded the issue by fielding and returning a punt he should have fair caught, got nailed and lost the ball.

Still, we just can't have that happen when the games count. That's why this is a tough decision.

Really like Asa " Ace Boogie " Jackson hope they work something out down the line!

Won't be the near future since the Giants claimed him off waivers.
