[News] The Breakdown: Eisenberg Predicts Ravens 53-Man Roster

56 posts in this topic

Even though I'd like it, I just can't see them keeping 5 ILB-s and just 5 CB-s considering Smith and Webb are injury risks. If we'd have some decent CB-s who can stay upright for an extended period of time, 5 ILB-s would be perfect because there is so much talent there.

That's why I'm not sure that Asa gets cut...  I think we hang on to him for just that reason.

I swear Daniel Brown has shown more football IQ and physicality than Aiken or butler. If he doesn't make the team then I really will lose confidence in Harbuaghs assessing of the team.

Daniel Brown had all training camp to separate him self among other receivers and honestly never impressed that much. Now that he made a few touchdowns and etc against third string players whom may not even make the team it's being consider that he's better than Butler and Aiken?  I think he will make the team but probably more on the practice squad than anything.

Does everyone forget that Daniel Brown made those plays against 3rd/4th stringers last night? Great plays, would love to have him on the team, but can't believe there are a billion comments under me talking about 'Brown absolutely deserves a spot over Aiken'. Aiken has played against 1st and 2nd-teamers only this preseason. And if you're talking about special teams, he also returned a blocked punt for a touchdown last year.

Why? Has he shown anything promising in that department?

Has Asa? You want Webb or your number one receiver back there?

I think Asa makes the team. He's explosive and we don't have any better options at returner.

No but there are 31 other teams that do.

We are one of many teams who doesn't have a kick returner.

IF we bring one in (and I'm not convinced we will), I almost guarantee it will be somebody who at least offers depth at another position.

I don't see how bringing in a guy like Holliday, who offers nothing except return skills which generally require him to take a knee or field a fair catch, makes this team better.

If you notice, almost all of the better kick returners in the league and most of the one's period all at least offer depth at another position.

Daniel Brown is a coaches player all around. When everyone else was dragging butt in the 4th he came on strong. Something Ray use to do. Too bad the coach/QB did not target him for the 2 point.

As rmcjacket said, worst case we have another backup CB with some starting experience. I think he makes the team. We only have 5 CB's and history has proven that we can never have too many CB's.

You know that what yanks my chain. We had this problem last year with CB. Seriously do you think were any better to take on Brady, Bed, Payton, and Rivers with this crew?

I feel we have some pretty sure handed Wr's in Steve Smith, Marlon Brown, Michael Campanaro, Daniel Brown, and Kamar Aiken. I hope we keep all 5 along with Perriman and Butler.

The Browns, both at 6-5, would be Red Zone Beasts!

As a fan all you can hope for is the best 53 guys make the roster and for the Ravens to round out the practice squad with the best guys remaining.

who routinely gets burnt and gives up Tds. He's a liability on defense and ST.

If Daniel Brown doesn't make the team that would probably be the call of Bobby Engram and the ST's coach not Harbaugh.

I overreacted big time in that comment lol. My fault

We only had the problem at CB b/c of injuries.  Webb didn't play until the 4th game, we lost J. Smith after the 8th game and then guys started dropping like flies.

When we go into Denver, yes we're better at the CB position than we were last season.  With 10 days to play and if everyone is healthy (tbd), Webb, Arrington, and J. Smith are much better than any 3 CBs who started last year.

Obviously, Brown hasn't played against the top competition, but that isn't his fault. I don't quite see why a guy who is 6'5" and has shown good route running, positioning and glue for hands isn't appealing. We have all gone gaga over tall receivers with a lot less skills. A team like Green Bay if they have been watching will pick him up in a heartbeat.

Actually, it is his fault that he hasn't played against top competition. Coaches had extensive time to see him play in college, rookie camp, mini camp, and training camp. Had he done something during that time to warrant getting playing time earlier in the game, he would have gotten it. How many times have we seen someone look great late in preseason games, but they never made it in the NFL? When you have players who have made plays in real games against starters, you don't cut them for an undrafted player who's done nothing but make a handful of plays against 3rd and 4th stringers, many of whom won't even make an NFL roster this year.

@FlackAttack Asa Jackson is terrible at returner. He's gonna cost us some games with his fumbling issue. Ozzie needs to find a good decent returner. I want Ozzie to see if he could go after Cordarrelle Patterson in a trade or something. We need on bad.

nowhere in my post did i mention him as a returner. we need 6 CB's not 5, and hes the best option out of the rest of the cuts in the secondary, unless we go free agency.

I think people seem to be forgetting that we need CB depth. I know a lot of people aren't in love with Asa's CB skills, but the problem is - who do we currently have that is that deep on the CB chart who is better?

I haven't followed every return, but I think his biggest issue with costly gaffes have been on punt returns. I think he's fine in kick return mode, I just don't want him returning punts. Camp is the best we have for that job, but the problem is, who is returning punts when Camp is out? Webb has actually been one of our most sure handed guys (we always used him instead of Jones when we anticipated receiving the punt inside our own 20). Based on previous history, Camp being out is something we have to expect on a regular basis and Webb is no different.

We can't have it be SSS. No way. Given the state of our WRs, we can't afford that risk. PKR is a dilemma ... in the end, I just want a guy that knows when to field the punt, when to let it go and just fair catch on pretty much every attempt. If you don't have a viable threat to take the kick to the house, the risk of a fumble isn't worth the 5 return yards.

No way we keep 5 mlb's. Especially when you consider the starters will play 99.97 % of the snaps. none of the 3 reserves will play snap on defense.

Gotta agree with that. I think Brown stays and either McClellan or Orr will be released. I know they are good on STs, but we'll have to survive on STs with one of our secondary depth guys filling that role. That's where we need the depth, not ILB.
