Whats your WR lineup?

131 posts in this topic

It has probably been mentioned already, but could Waller function as the interim deep threat until Breshad returns?

His 40 was almost equal to that of Torrey, but people have said he struggles getting off the line. He has jump ball ability and a big catch radius.

How is he not able to overpower most CB with sheer physicality?

Honestly i'm not sure If Waller really ready to contributed on offense yet but  is it possible for him to make some plays deep every now or again ? Yes sure. He may actually be more ready then I believe but he struggles a bit against press coverage.  I think he still learning how to play to his size and he  may have the same 40 time as Torrey Smith but their speed  are alot different . Waller has built up speed which means it takes him longer to get up to top speed more than Torrey but since he's so tall it gives him advantage to make plays going deep even if he's not blazing by corners.

As fans we haven't been able to get a chance to see Waller make plays going deep because he hasn't been target often or at all when running deep routes.Waller just really unknown at this point and he could  overpower corner backs with sheer physically but as mention before I think he's still learning how to use his size to his advantage but we shall see.

I doubt if Waller is even active for this game. With Melvin and Jernigan being doubtful, even if they are upgraded during the course of the day, they probably won't play much. Because of that you'll probably go with your 5th Safety and Bilukidi to provide added depth at those positions.

Unless Aiken, Brown and Camp just flat out suck, i don't see Waller being active in many if any games.

But he's gonna break all rookie receiving records!

Why though?  We dressed 5 WRs every chance we had last season (clearly couldn't on games where Brown and Camp were both injured) even into the playoffs.  What chances this season/week that with Perriman guaranteed out for a few weeks would we only dress four?  Remember, the secondary was in shambles since week 1 last year until the end and we still never made a WR inactive for a CB if they were healthy

Well remember you have to by team need not necessarily past occasions. With Gilmore, Willimas, Boyle, Sr, Aiken, Brown, Camp, Juice and Trestman basically saying and showing he'll use a ton of 2TEs and a HB. So with those pass catching options not to mention using the RBs in the passing offense, where do you game plan Waller in at? I'd love to see him get some redzone opportunities but are you gonna activate him just for that? I'm not sure he's good enough on ST right now to be considered a option there. So the intrigue of Waller is definitely high but i can't see him taking many reps away from the other 5 guys espically once Perriman comes back. Also remember that even though Jacoby lost offensive reps he was the primary RS.

So if you aren't gonna really play him at WR and he's not gonna be on teams, why activate him over someone like Bilukidi or Brooks/Levine who can at least help in a rotation? Remember you can only have 45 guys active.

I guess we'll see Sunday.  I know last season we still managed to dress 5 WRs, 2 TEs (severely doubt 3 happen), a FB, and 3 RBs in various games, so I'm still not seeing why it would be an issue.

I don't get the talk of 2 TE sets being a feature.  Wasn't the same thing said after Kubiak was signed last year?  In the last two seasons with Chicago, Trestman's #2 TE caught 17 passes combined in both seasons.  His #3 WR caught 32 passes just last year.  Plus TEs almost never have good rookie seasons as the NFL transition seems to be hardest for this position.  With the exception of Gronk, who is a pure freak, I can't remember a rookie TE doing that well his first year

Again last year Jacoby was the primary Returner so he's active every game despite falling to #6 on the depth chart at WR. So if you're keeping 5 guy and Jacoby is that 5th you wouldn't inactive him and he's your main Retuner. What is Waller to this team? I know many dislike Brown, Aiken's ability gets questioned by some and Camp is often a walking injury but do you honestly expect Waller to get factored into thw gameplan ahead of them?

As for the 2TE sets last year. That ugly thing called injury happened. If Pitta is heathly there's no doubt that Kubes is using more 2TE sets. Will Trestman use 2TE sets a lot? We'll see. But when you draft a 2TE in the 2nd round and Trestman publicly stated how much Flacco likes big TEs and how using 2TE sets puts defenses at a disadvantage, i think you should at least put some stock into the idea. Also Trestman ran a majority of 2TE sets in the preseason. So i think we'll see a nice balance between 2TE sets and 3WR sets.

As for how successful Crockett and Maxx will be, we'll see.

Project Large or go home and let the big boys go to work!!!

My starting receivers are Steve Smith, Breshad Perriman and Darren Waller.  No question about it.  Now will that be the case in week 1...NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Heres who will FALL by the wayside!!!

Kamar Aiken....what a load of misplaced hope. What a lost cause. What a guy who is the epitome of Mr Average.  He's gonna get Flacco intercepted like a the "Star Wars" missile defense system. He's a reverse Heat Seeker trying to happen.

Marlon Brown....He is the slightly taller version of Aiken. He's never where he is supposed to be and he's already as gimpy as a 39 year old!!!!!!!

Michael Campanaro.....Not because I don't believe he can't run a route nor catch a ball. He can...........the piece of peanut brittle cannot stay in one piece.  And that AINT gonna change!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

I think Waller will be active.  We need him because this one should be a Nail Biter. If he's not active, I make our chances few and far between. I'm counting on him, because I think we buried him to this point.

But he's gonna break all rookie receiving records!

Maybe.........from Week 8 thru Week 17.

Honestly Aiken and Brown are both sorta the same guy. Brown is a better blocker and he may be a little faster but I think they both play somewhat similar. I like them both and I'd like one to separate from the other since I'm pretty sure both are restricted free agents next offseason. The time to make a decision has come.

I think Campanaro should be the #2 from what I've personally seen in preseason. He's been the second best WR in my eyes. I get the idea of the matchup with two smaller WR but we do have some tall TE here.

Agree..........but Camp has to stay on the field. ...........our TE's are already factored ....we need the right group of WR's in this game.

To be fair Torrey never had those question marks.  Torrey's always been a productive NFL receiver, and belongs on the field.

Touche

I'm tellin you ....I'm nominating you for Raven's GM when Oz hangs up the golden telephone.

Sure Torrey might have better accelaration, although I always felt he was kinda slow out of his stance as well.

Still, the 40 yard dash measures how fast a player covers 40 yards north to south in a straight line. Waller with 4.46 is just behind Torrey at 4.43.

This number van be manipulated by the defense by jamming receivers of course, but if I recall right Torrey wasn't exactly a beast off the line either. He still produced as a deep threat here.

Guess we'll have to wait and see, Sunday can't come fast enough!

Well, active/inactive list is out.  Waller is active. As I said, the Ravens keep at least 5 WRs active.  Jensen and Bilukidi were healthy scratches, so they found backup lineman less important than the 5th WR.

So again, I'm wondering if they'll actually send Waller deep a few times
