[News] Is Arthur Brown's Spot Secure?

29 posts in this topic

I think Brown will be used as a pass rusher and cover guy in passing situations a lot. Hes really fast and quick. His special teams play is what hampered him and put him behind Orr and McClellan. Hes too good of an athlete to cut or let sit the bench for long.

Similar to what Sami just said, he's always reminded me of how Ellerbe was in his first few years, albeit with a lot more attention since he was a 2nd rd pick supposedly "taking over" for #52. Like Ellerbe was with us, Brown's explosive and has good instincts when he can keep up with the game. Prior to 2012, they used Ellerbe in almost exclusively 3rd and long situations, mostly on delayed blitzes. I am curious to see if they try the same thing w/Brown this year. It took Ellerbe 4 years to get to 1st-team level. Hoping Brown can do that this year, so we'll see.

Brown is definitely worth keeping. Even if it is primarily Special Teams and on certain packages. His main issue from what i thought, was he had trouble really digesting the LB playbook, which in his defense likely complex as compared to his college style of play. I think that the time spent learning behind some great ones was good for him, and Daryl Smith isnt gonna be playing much longer which makes him a bigger asset. I mean, come on...not everyone can be Ray Lewis or CJ Mosely, we have been spoiled in Balto. Sometimes gotta wait for the blossom.

It's you're chance to earn a spot on the first team defense,if you step up and produce much needed results from you would be greatly appreciated.

I am rooting for A. Brown. He really is a fast linebacker. He is getting stronger. I think by the time Smith hangs it up, he will be ready to play alongside Mosley. I hope we keep him for passing situations and maybe special teams, would be a valuable backup should special teams or linebacker starters get hurt. He is worth staying on the team.

Brown has too much potential to be cut right now. The key is finding a way to get that dude on the field so he can make a significant contribution. Hopefully this is that year.

I really thought Brown was a first round talent that fell to the second and was delighted when Ozzie moved up for him. Like many have said here 1- he's a freakishly unique athlete. He's really really fast and can tackle. I'm surprised it took him this long to realize he needed to gain 15 pounds of muscle. 2- he has a much higher ceiling than Orr and will be a quality starter in this league. Eventually the game will slow down for him as his technique improves. I hope it happens with the Ravens rather than somewhere else. 3- and no I don't want a com pick from him. That's magic when a late draft pick prices himself out not when a high draft pick blossoms late.

Bottom line is. Brown and Upshaw could make this Linebacking Crew the deepest in the NFL if they pan out and stay home.

Orr over Brown

Your right. As things stand, if Mosley or Smith goes down (knocking on wood) Orr would probably get the nod. But Brown certainly has a lot more potential. 2 or 3 years down the road Brown could be a quality starter while Orr probably won't get much more than a quality backup role ;)

When? What year? We have been waiting for him to show his worth since he was drafed number 2. He hasn't. Until we see something on the field to warrant it, all this baloney from Harbaugh means nothing. Every team misses with draft choices, but the Ravens are missing entirely too often with their top two picks. Elam just outright sucks and unlike most here, I think Perriman was a mistake. Anyone who has a rep for dropping passes shouldn't be anyone's number one pick. Another version of Ed Dickson.

We don't know how good Brown is because he has been continually behind 2 of the best. Can we move him to the out side?? No team needs 3 middle linebackers. Ozzie's philosophy of best player available resulted in the selection of Mosely which requires Brown to wait til Smith retires. Get creative Dean...line up 5 LBs: Suggs, Dumervil, Upshaw, Smith and Brown behind Williams and Jernigan and let them rock the world. 4-3 or 3-4.....how about a 2-5???? With the best linebacking group in the NFL, get them in the fkng game.

Heck...throw them for a total loop and let our guys go wild..play a 1-6. Put williams in the middle and play Suggs, Dumervil, Smith, Smith, Upshaw and Mosely behind him. No one would know who is rushing the passer, who is stopping the run and who is doing what.....!!!! we have great talent ...put it on the field. Nobody will know who to block.

I wanted Brown to fill the spot but he is in his third year and the guy threatening to take it is in his second. Do you really want someone in that position that's slow to learn and react? C.J learned quick and now is dominating his position. Brown is a good back up to the backup & special teams.

Originally I had Brown not making the team. Orr and McClellan are better on ST, and while McClellan has struggled at ILB, Orr has looked great. However, The Injury to Means opens up a roster spot. Now you might think DL to replace him because that's his position, but Brown has looked a lot better this off-season. So I'd give that spot to him. Even though that means carrying only 7 DL. The other option is to carry a 9th OL, and keep Jenson.
