[News] Ravens Put Dennis Pitta On PUP, Down To 75

27 posts in this topic

No surprises there really. My guess is if the current TE squad are performing then Pitta gets IR after PUP and retires next off season. I wish it not to be true but can see this scenario most likely. Urban gets IR/DTR before next roster move.

Thats what I thought at the start of this offseason too; but (and this may just be wishful thinking) Pitta has had his nose into everything the team has been doing this offseason.  I think he is eyeing a return with the recognition that there are only 160 people in the WORLD on an NFL roster.

Pitta will play, you cant Stop him from playing. He has a contract and he has the fire and desire to still play. Yes the Ravens TE group looks good but anyway you slice it Pitta is best receiving TE on the team at 70% and at 100% hes by far the best TE on the team. Its just funny how god rest his soul Junior Seau, probably had 50 concussions during his playing days and still got to play 15 yrs then took his life. Aikman,Welker I can name all these guys with concussion issues they were never forced out of the NFL until they couldnt play anymore. There is no reason on gods green earth because Pittas hip popped out a couple times, were going to treat him like he has CTE.

Every man makes his own choice and if Pitta wants to play... Let the man play and if the hip issues pop up again it wont hurt as much because posirion depth, and if he stays healthy...you have one of best TEs in the NFL.

And its not like you can die or get dementia from a hip issues, the worst the happens is hip pain later in life... And all the money Pitta has racked up over his career he could easily afford and kind of treatment.

Stop acting like Pitta is dabilitated and has brain trauma... He will play

O for crap sake. This is getting as bad as the Brian Roberts neverending saga. As much as I like Pitta, he is done playing football. When you collapse without anyone laying a finger on you, it is time to hang em up. He had better stop this nonsense before he hurts himself to the point where walking is questionable. If the Ravens don't have enough sense to tell him to retire, his family sure as heck should.

Gillmore will replace Pitta. Better, not as good, who knows. It will happen. I'm thinking Gilmore may surpass Pitta in a year or so. We won't forget Pitta. As we have never forgotten Mackey, Mutscheller nor Heap. The sun sets on some players sooner than others. The sun also rises on the young and promising. My mind set tells me Pitta should retire.

Sorry , Im not giving up on Pitta yet... Man if your saying this about Pitta I can only imagine what you thought when KO broke his back couple yrs ago, or when Ray or Ed got injured during their careers.

Dont turn your back on our own.

Very thin line between being "realistic" and being close minded and pessimistic. Some people just want to be able to say " I told you so" and lack faith. Maybe they continuously failed in life and constantly gave up when facing adversity? Who knows. I don't think it's likely that pitta returns, but I damn sure ain't countin him out.

Can we just get this season started so folks will stop surmising on "what's gonna happen"?  Then we can go on about "what has happened"?    There is so much conjecture in what we all believe is good or best ... or what we think we want to believe...

I will say this..  Pitta has had 3X the amount of time to heal this time around.  While we're all throwing stuff around, I personally don't believe he had adequate time for the bone to grow and heal correctly the first time.  Before we put this guy in a retirement home, can we just wait and see what is happening?

Pitta is done. Every one including him and especially his doctors know he should be thankful to heal and walk again. Forget about playing in the NFL, he could end up in a wheel chair for life. Urban will go on the IR designated to return. A little deer antler spray and he'll be good in no time. Suggest he move in with Ray Lewis and follow his recovery program.

The Mom Gene: Surmising on what's going to happen is one of our inalienable creative rights, right or wrong. It would be a boring state of affairs if we all just waited for the season to start with our thoughts on hold. None of us will ever win the Nobel nor Pulitzer cranking out these my point of view posts but at least we can attempt to state our opinions if for no other reason to relieve the tension that builds up during preseason.

I'm sure Pitta wants to play. But let's be honest. He only had one good, healthy season. It's unfortunate what happened to him. But people in here after the 2012 season, proclaiming him to be better than Heap, were insane. Heap was a monster, and a long-time Ravens hero. Pitta had one decent season as starter, and then got hurt, same injury, two years running. He might never play again, and our big 5-year contract to him has been, sadly, a waste of time and money. I like the guy, and feel bad for him. But it is what it is.

I think he's AOK now but Mgmt  is not taking chances and he gives another player a shot at the 53 while on  pup.  He should play against the Cards. I think he is quality all the way.

He's a football player. He is a team guy and we should quit debating retirement.  Lets see him perform against the Cards. The team is putting him on pup because they respect him and million dollar contracts for class people should have rewards.

It may be time to ask pitta what he wants to do. I would recommend him to retire, he has the ring, has the money, and has the respect He did what he loved and did it winning it all, not many players can say that. But if pitta insists on playing more and says he wants to play one more time. Then what the heck right?, I mean if he can come back and produce for us and help contribute down the stretch then lets keep him for another year and see what will happen. But honestly I don't see any other options realistically outside of those two things, keep in mind the second one is pushing it. I don't see him lasting with us too much longer, might as well take the ring of honor approach leave come visit sometimes. If he wants one more shot then give it to him, but understand pitta has yet to move those wheels of his at all in over a year. If he does come back expect him to start out slow and move into the game slowly again. Lets hope for the best either way, but I recommend the first option.

If Pitta doesn't play at all by the end of the season, and if our current trio of Gilmore/Maxx/Boyle remain healthy, then I have to believe they cut their losses /w Pitta before June 1. It's too much risk /w that much salary to pay for a player we may not need and who may not be able to play ever again. That said, I wish the best for Pitta and would love to have him back healthy.
