[News] John Harbaugh: I'm Not Very Good At Halftime Interviews

39 posts in this topic

I think you got it backwards. If Brent Harris's skin isn't thick enough to take some Criticism during an interview then HE's in the wrong business. I think harbaugh definitely could have handled it differently but he was obviously shaken up. I commend him for not always giving the same cliche fake answers. When he's pissed off he let's you know it. I did feel bad for the guy and was glad that harbaugh halfway apologized. Harris also said they had a long private conversation and everything's good now.

You can't possibly consider what Harbaugh said, the way he said it, and then the nasty look he gave Brent as "criticism." C'mon man your smarter than that. In fact Brent couldn't have been any more professional. Basically ignoring Harbaugh's childish rant. Harbaugh treats the staff reporters like that because he knows he can get away with it and in his eyes he sees them as subordinates, but that's no way to treat anybody, especially not on national TV. This is exactly what he signed up for when he took on the job of being a head coach. He needs to learn to deal with it in a more professional manner. Glad everything is good though, but lets see what happens next time.

Just out of curiosity though, and I'm not necessarily disagreeing with your premise, but why exactly does he NEED to be more professional?

I mean nobody really thinks that he would be in danger of losing his job over not being professional to a local beatwriter, so other than the medias perception of him changing (which he may or may not care about), what does he really have to lose?

I mean I know Belichick isn't as standoff-ish as Harbaugh was in that interview, but he's the poster boy for treating local and national media members like they are ants on the ground that he stomps on. And again, other than the media just not liking him, it doesn't seem to be having any effect on what he is trying to accomplish or his employment situation.

yes i can, and i do.

just because he wasnt wishy washy and super polite about it, doesnt mean it wasnt valid.

And what else do you expect from somebody who had been in a tense situation a minute and a half before?

obviously he was on edge, that's the natural reaction to such circumstances.

i think YOU'RE smarter than that.

his questions weren't "fine."

they were dumb(er than inteview questions usually are) and came with simple, obvious answers that didnt require Harbaugh to figure out.

It was fairly apparent that Harris planned on filling the whole half time interview with chatter about the fight and had no backup plan once he was denied. That's lazy journalism, and he should be criticized for it. It's not Harbaugh's or anyone else's job to jump through hoops trying to turn stupid questions from unprepared reporters into rocket science.

That's all he was looking for is simple, obvious answers. That's kinda how most half time interviews go with most coaches that are able to compose themselves. Nobody's looking for rocket science. Clearly Harbaugh wasn't able to muster up any kind of appropriate response either way.

I do think Brent handled it professionally.. He just caught harbaugh at a bad time and he was ticked off. Harbaughs a human. He apologized and said he needs to get better. Now we move on.

I read Mike Preston's article about Coach......he, IMHO ripped our coach.

For the record, I love Coach's passion. For our local paper ( The Sun) to write that article is a disgrace....they're just looking to start trouble.....like we don't have enough.

My guess is that Mike Preston never played or coached in his life......so Mike...[hush].

Go coach...go Ravens....

I think he was a lineman at Towson...He tweeted 8-8 record for the Ravens due to lack of depth at the WR position behind ICE.

If Harbaugh handled himself so professionally then he wouldn't have had anything to apologize about in the first place right? He's got a track record for treating them that way, so do they all catch him at a bad time? As I said before this was not an isolated incident... This one just happened to be on national TV. Maybe now he'll actually see himself doing it and realize how bad it really looks.

never said harbaugh handled himself professionally , he obviously handled it very poorly. And yes he's handled them poorly numerous times , which is why he addressed the fact he needs to work on doing a better job. I also think that this time he realizes how bad it makes him look. But you gotta admit, this isn't just specific to harbaugh, this is something all coaches could do a better job at. I mean damn bellechik is the king of patronizing and condescending remarks and he displays that pretty much on a weekly basis.

And that's one of the main reasons nobody likes Belichik... His miserable personality. Other than winning games he's just seems like a dreadful, awful human being. John is better than that. He had a much better showing last night.
