Ninety players to 75 to 53 and back to 63 players all in 7 days. I'm sure there's very valid reasons the NFL makes teams go through all this tomfoolery (mostly keeping paper pushers fully employed I suppose) but only the 53 number is important, and even then, only 46 get to dress on game-day. Am I the only one that thinks all this is crazy....or what? lol

For me, the dumbest thing is not having all 53 players available on game day, silly to have to declare 7 inactive

They do it for injury reasons.  If one team has 6 injured players and the other only has 1, it leads to a bit of an unfair advantage.  More rotation and more depth.  It's their way of making up for the fact that the only thing you can really do with an injured player to get them back is IR-DTR.

I know but its a poor excuse.

Totally agree with this

Sucks to see Means there.  I was hopeful for him.  Could open a spot so we can keep all 5 ILBs or maybe even Brennen Beyer.

or maybe room for a pick up, some interesting names are already hitting the market, we usually grab at least one person I think

Feeling hopeful about the fact that Urban wasn't placed on IR.  Could mean he's either less than 6 weeks away and they think it would be good to get a fresh pass rusher back by mid-season.

it's doubtful, he's got a full on biceps tear. More likely he's headed to IR tomorrow

I'm curious to see what happens with Urban. He may be further along in his healing. Did he fully tear the bicep and did he require surgery? I don't recall hearing that he had surgery but I think that was when I was hit by the gypsy curse and didn't have a computer for about a month, lol.

There's not a chance that Urban is less than 6 weeks away.

He did have surgery, but word is that his injury isn't as significant as Elam's.  I'm not exactly sure how that works, but that was the word back when it happened.

I'm guessing a partial tear whereas Elam fully tore his. It also depends on the damage and whether the injury occurred near the elbow (rare) or the shoulder (much more common). I wonder if the tendon was ruptured on Elam whereas it was intact on Urban. That significantly changes the prognosis. Tendons take longer to heal than muscle. A biceps tear is a very general term as it could indicate the muscle was torn (a biceps tear AKA a strain) or that the actual tendon was torn. I think everyone knows from the injuries we read about hear that a tear to the tendon is much worse than to the muscle.

Well the injury occurred about 4 weeks ago, and I believe they said it was a 12 week injury.   If he's 1-2 weeks ahead of schedule he could be back practicing in 6 weeks.

Exactly, I don't see it as something improbable.

As further proof, Ray Lewis had a very similar injury in 2012 when we put him on the IR-DR list.  He suffered the injury and was back playing 11 weeks later, even though it was with a brace.  Urban is 24 and Lewis was 37.  Based on the fact that Urban is younger, I don't find it impossible that he could be working out and even practicing 10 weeks after the injury occurred.

Only if he uses the Deer Antler Spray  :D

With that, it looks like Urban will be the return designee.

Could they place him on PUP as well? I don't know the rules, but given that he has a 12 week injury and the fact that it happened 4 weeks ago, 2 weeks being left in the pre season, I feel that he can begin practicing after 6 games no? What are the rules for PUP? How many players can go on PUP? I do understand that IR (designated to return) can only be used on one player.

Sigh...

Once a player practices once in camp, they can no longer go on the PUP.  It's only for guys who come into camp injured.

Now I remember. Precisely why Perriman can't go on it either. That rule kinda sucks!

According to Harbs, Jackson isn't safe and almost completely attributed his KO return to great blocking, nothing super special that Jackson did

I agree with that assessment. That return was fools gold, the rest of his returns were mediocre and you hold your breathe on every punt whether he can even field the ball cleanly. Oh yeah he can't play corner. I really like Asa as a person which makes it really hard for me to say those things but the truth is the truth. He hasn't earned a roster spot in my eyes, he's a corner who can't cover and a return specialist who is an iffy returner. If he makes the team it will be by pure lack of depth at corner and our desperation for a returner. Basically the two biggest weaknesses on the roster.

Harbaugh wouldn't say whether Arthur Brown is on bubble. Did say he's good enough to play but in tough situation behind Smith, Mosley

Sounds like Brown will get the chance to earn his spot. I like it. I'm sure we've already decided either way but it's good to see how guys respond to adversity. That's where you see the character of a winner.

...which means he will be on the "final" 53 on Saturday and ruin my pick the roster entree...

I would love to see him come in during the stretch run and provide a boost, though. He's to hoping.

I wouldn't put Perriman on PUP anyways to be honest.
