[News] Ravens 2015 Preseason Stock Watch vs. Redskins

We need someone other than Asa. He has been with us 3 years now and really hasn't improved. Has shown flashes but no consistency. Time to give it to someone else who is hungry and looking for a break. Mistakes out weigh his good plays.

One would think that , in pro sports, that the best player would make the team. Not so in football--politics are an important aspect of the game. Why, for example , would Buck Allen be given more opportunity to carry the ball than T. Magee? Easy, a 4th round draft choice is more valuable that a free agent ( most of the time) because of the time and investment that a draft choice commands.

W hear the hype about how pre-season games are a better evaluation than practice. Sounds correct to me. I hope that the Ravens give Magee more opportunity that they have.

Here's where the fans and coaches differ. As fans we see the second team oline unable to keep our quarterbacks upright. Little to no movement on the ground by the second team. And on defense the backups cant keep the running game controlled or contained and make Colt McCoy look like the second coming of a young Michael Vick.

Its up to our coaches to see what fans don't rewind and hone in on that's happening away from the ball.

Who is gonna be a liability to this team if a starter goes down? Who has athleticism, but needs time to develop and holds promise warranting a precious roster or PS spot? Who just didn't pan out and will be excess baggage for us if we're trying to go deep into the playoffs?

The 90 to 75 should be really easy based on the fact that the backups scored 0 points, and gave up 31 straight to them. We may need to cut more than that to test out other peoples cuts, especially on both lines and our return game.

I can't believe Downing when he says Ravens are impressed with Jah Reid. He looks terrible. Almost got Schabb kill and not fast enough to play tackle. Ravens still have questions and receiver, returner, and depth on D-line and RT, and Pees bend but don't break style make Colt McCoy look like a starting NFL QB. It's the scheme. The secondary is not that bad talent wise.

1- Our secondary needed help!

2- Our secondary needs help!

3- Our secondary still needs help!

And don't tell me they just need to get healthy. What facts did that assumption come from......

J.Smith is awesome when healthy. Webb is awesome when healthy. Hill is awesome when healthy. But lets face it. Based on their record, they will miss time due to inury or suspension. What do we do then?

Lewis, Arrington, Levine, Waller, Melvin, and Brooks are not there yet. They may step up for a game or two but they are not starting caliber secondary guys for a team aspiring to reach the Super Bowl.

Truth hurts but it must be said by someone.....

I can't remember when I last saw Ravens with so bad backup players. In addition, most of our starting DB-s are still playing like 2nd or 3rd stringers. On paper, this team looks like a monster. On the field, unfortunately, it has been anything but. Add all the injuries we have and we will have during the season, and I'm not confident at all in our ability to live up to the hype of being a SB contender.

We are in for a long season defensively. Joe better be able to put up lots and lots of points. This D, if pre-season is any indicator, will get hammered by any team using a hurry up style offense, they literally can not stop it.

Pre-season stock watch? Time to cut some refs in this league as well. Out of 5 players penalized for UNNECESSARY ROUGHNESS, the refs did NOT penalize Robinson. The dangerous pile drive tackle likely to injure, cripple or conceivably even kill a player, is specifically prohibited and clearly mandated by the league as UNNECESSRY ROUGHNESS. That illegal tackle was worse than any scuffle that would predictably follow, which could have ended a players career. Refs are scary bad thus far and deserve to get kicked to the curb for missing the most important penalty of the game to Robinson. How could the inept refs possibly "forget" that they just saw 1 of the ugliest, most dangerous and specifically outlawed tackles for unnecessary roughness over the past decade?

Walker will stub a toe and go on IR, as he is clearly not ready, and i have said all camp depth at ILBer is not good....

Buck Allen has been unimpressive these 3 preseason games, he hasn't been able to get Into any type of rhythm, and neg me all you want but despite the hype I havent been to impressed with Waller, with his height, speed, and length he should be giving defenders a much tougher time I don't think he's been using his size to his advantage. However zadarius has looked good and Davis continues to look good

What was that phantom call on Gillmore's TD catch? I ran that play back a few times on the DVR and couldn't see a thing. Not flagging Robinson for the WWE pile driver move was a joke. The spotting of McGhee's 3rd down run and the subsequent delay of game penalty was a head scratcher too. Just a weird game, glad it doesn't count.

The FO needs to find a KR/PR before the regular season begins, because Asa Jackson is not player for the job. One good kick return does not make him a qualified return man, in the words of Ray Lewis even a blind squirrel can find a nut every once in a while!!!!!!

Have to echo all the comments on poor officiating. Calls that make no sense. Not measuring for a first down when asked then giving a delay of game penalty, taking away Gillmore's TD on a hold or off int on a player a million miles away. The two worst things were not penalizing (hopefully the league will fine) Robinson for an illegal slam to the ground and on Allen's fumble had he crossed the plane before the fumble and why was that not reviewed. When is the league going to get full time referees that are young and fit enough to keep up with the game. The NFL makes too much money. Spend some of it to make the game better. Yes, the Ravens played poorly but with so many trifling penalties called any momentum is taken away.

Ozzie has to be looking for a kick returner (yes Jackson had a great return on a kick-off but he scares me on punts and you don't just want to fair catch everything) and he has to be looking for a solid #2 receiver.

I hate that we don't have a returner. Asa Jackson is horrible as a CB, just awful. So if he's gonna take up a roster spot just as a return man, he better be great. The problem is, he's not. He's too eager to make a play. You have to be patient and use your head. Know when to run, and when to fair catch. I was hoping Campanaro would take the job, but he's too injury prone. That, and the fact that the other WR's haven't stepped up, makes me think we should have kept Jacoby Jones. But hindsight is 20/20.

Those refs were disturbing to say the least. They didn't eject that LB for the ugly hit on Aiken.

true but he did cause one of his fellow teammates to be thrown out and caused a bad tape on both

Anybody see that player who pushed Urschel from behind when all he was doing was separating Steve Smith from Culliver. That was the most childish thing I've seen. Then the redskins players on the sidline were taunting our players to step over to their sidline smh. Redskins are the worst football organization in sports

We have just one QB, one RB, one WR, one OG, the FB and maybe one TE and the C that we can rely on, on offense: with the "ideal" lineup the team looks good - but how many times will that lineup actually take the field over the 16 regular-season games? We looked terribly thin behind the first stringers.

I'm hoping that the coaches don't think that the return job is ok bc of one good return. And they're probably sayin to themselves that Asa's poor decision not calling a fair catch is ok bc campanaro will be the PR and he will be the KR.

No, it's not ok. It speaks to his overall decision making. We need a SMART returner just as much as we need an explosive returner, if not more. Really hoping Ozzie sees this. For all the people that said the KR position wasn't really an issue bc most of them are touch backs anyway and on punts we can just fair catch the ball, well... You have to catch the ball first... Which our guys can't even seem to do. This is a problem any way you look at it.

As bad as the 2nd/3rd string players have looked, I am trying to stay positive and not look at it as if the entire group is worthless. There may still be a few individuals out there who, when blended in with the 1st team, will be effective.

Also, we have to remember our 2nd team offense has looked bad, largely because much of our 2nd string o line is either playing with the 1s (filling in for injured starters) or are they themselves injured. If we can get guys healthy, I think our O line depth is quite good.

I wonder if Ozzie could trade for a young play maker returner like a Cordarrelle Patterson from the Vikings or Trindon Holiday from the Raiders that would gives us an extra boost for our special teams but I guess they going with Asa Jackson.
