Jernigan injury vs Redskins

20 posts in this topic

I was wondering if any of you caught the way Jernigan was injured in the Redskins game tonight? The RT #76 for the skins went straight to his left knee on a run play left at about 11:08 in the first quarter. The more I watch that play the more ticked off I get. The RT was lined up to Timmy's left and dude just blasted him straight in his knee. What's weird tho is TJ got hit in the left knee but it was his right the trainers were looking at. The play has the look of one that could have really messed his knee up. So guys and gals what's your opinions on that play, was this just a normal cut block and I'm over reacting or was that a cheap shot? I rarely ever post on these forums but I read all of them And I'm really interested to know what all of you think. With TJ's injury history with his knees I hope he is ok.

It sucks with Jernigan getting injured, but I think it just looked like a cut block.

Hopefully we don't have a similar situation to Perriman and he can get on the field in good health, we will need him

Jernigan is a key component of the DL and those who don't admit it are simply blind. Yeah, he hasn't really made an impact like his predecessor here, but it's clear to even a bat that the team is relying on him to replace Ngata.

I think the loss of Jernigan against Denver is more critical than not having Perriman for the game. If I had to choose between the two, I'd go for Jernigan. We absolutely need to disrupt Manning to beat him. You beat Manning and you beat the Broncos. Yes, they have a good secondary but I like our TE and Steve Smith going against their guys. That's as long as the OL stays healthy.

I agree with everything you've said here. I didn't expect Perriman to make a big contribution week one anyway. There is some hope Carl Davis can provide interior pressure but I would feel better with Jernigan out there.

i have a feeling jernigan will be okay for week one.

without evan mathis i felt we would have manhandled that offensive line..sadly mathis takes pretty much every d linesman he's up against out of the game

suggs and doom have to have an epic game on the outside.

this is the type of game where we miss a mcphee..remember we had mcphee and jernigan wreck havoc together at times last year..

Agreed. The pass rush needs to be out in full force for us to win that game. Suggs and Doom need to win their 1 on 1's and the interior DL needs that initial surge which Jernigan is crucial for. We might have some issues in the secondary but the best way to counteract that is to get pressure early and not make our corners chase guys all over the field. We saw what Jernigan can do for this defense when Ngata was suspended last year, he had an amazing sack in the Patriots game he really is a super talented kid. Hopefully he can heal up and be ready for week 1 because that is a pretty important swing game if we are going to go after a high seed this year.

Should be good matchups on the outside for Sizzle and Doom but I would imagine Peyton gets the ball out quick anyways

Yeah, but this secondary should be much more formidable than last year. That Denver game should be good.

Yeah, I agree, though I do think it would be a tremendous boost to have Perriman to keep the defense on it's toes, but I must admit that Jernigan is very important to this defensive line.

Their defense looks really good as well, will be interesting to see how we do against that group

Mathis isn't that good, especially as a pass-blocker. Jernigan could give him all he can handle, but he needs to be healthy obvioulsy.

Sami believes Mathis is the best guard in all of football. He's good. But I wouldn't take him over say Yanda.

I'm not afraid of the Broncos.. I'm not. Their defense is a cause for concern but behind that oline I question whether they can get a run game going and protect Peyton.

....he's as dominant of a guard i've seen in the past 4 years.

As a run blocker I agree, but he isn't as impressive in pass pro. Still good, but it's not like he doesn't ever allow pressure.
