[News] Ravens Lose Timmy Jernigan, Others To Injury

53 posts in this topic

Ozzie- Now do you miss Torrey? Breshad Perriman can't even put his foot on grass, and WR is a very hard position to learn for a rookie- I would've understood if we kept Jacoby, but you let him go too. So our fastest and best receiver is 36 years old, and he's going to retire at the end of this year? Camp can't even stay healthy either, and we know Pitta's deal and now the new TE? Our corners still stink- we didn't really address that issue as Ladarius and Jimmy are often injured too- Is Melvin really going to be the savior? Asa Jackson is not a very good corner either. As much as I hate to say this, this team will not be as good as last year. I also hope Ozzie doesn't try to cheap out on Marshall Yanda and Justin Tucker either- Yanda deserves to get paid.

we are much better than last year. Your putting too much stock into the preseason.

People kill me....worrying about the quality of the team and/or the players bexause of what they heard about training camp and think they know what they are seeing in preseason games. Just amazing. The only and I mean ONLY thing learned during camp or preaeaeon games, is who has been injured. That is it, 100%.

Good lord, what drama queens we fans are. Our backups look awful(as does the backups for most teams)and our whole damn football world is coming apart.

Out of all the injuries listed above, the one concerning Timmy Jernigan scares me the most. Please don't let it be anything to sideline him for more than a game or two! The guys behind him don't seem to have enough fight in them. O-line looked like it played without KO and Monroe - you shouldn't be able to tell except for the jersey numbers.

Doesn't look to be serious:

One day after leaving the game with right knee injury, source says Ravens defensive lineman Timmy Jernigan should be OK, not long-term inj.

That's good news! Carl Davis looks decent, but I am looking forward to the dominating young boys, Jernigan and Williams. They're real punishers.

Gee what a shock. Jernigan is hurt.....AGAIN. This guy lives on the injury list. He can have all the "potential" in the world, but if he can't stay healthy, then what good is it?

Out defense stinks. The Ravens did nothing to make it better. Instead they draft a wide receiver in the first round who drops passes. Just great.

Garrett (and/or Ryan), here's some advice: if our 2nd round rookie doesn't even suit up for the game after praciticng full all week, and there's no update on the reason - it might be a good idea to at least try and ask the HC about it at the presser... Because we still don't know why Maxx Williams didn't play... and I don't think it's not an important question.

Depends on who you read:

"On Timmy Jernigan, while he escaped a significant knee injury, he'll still have some work to do to be ready for Denver. That's in question" (Jeff Zrebiec (@jeffzrebiecsun, Baltimore Sun)

the problem with our secondary is they practice against our WRs who run easy to defend routes so they aren't up to the task of stopping WRs from other teams who run crisp, fast, precise routes. The problem with our WRs is they run lousy routes and get away with it because our secondary cant defend their lousy routes then when they get in a game their lousy routes are too lousy to work on a good secondary.

Our secondary looked simply weak and ineffective - including our starters (minus Jimmy) :(

I don't think many of us have criticized Flacco, Forsett, the starting D-line and the TE's... If the O-line can come back healthy, Buck Allen starts to step up and Gillmore keeps playing like he's been playing lately, we are a servicable return "specialist", a servicable secondary and a good 2-minute-drill D away from having a great team.

(The secondary is a major issue though. If they don't wake up in 2 weeks, Peyton will pick them apart... If Sanchez, Cousins and McCoy could, Peyton no doubt will, even if he can't feel anything in his fingertips...)

What am I missing because I only remember him missing a few weeks last year. Is that enough to call someone injury prone now?

Seems like they said the same thing - it's not serious. Of course even a minor knee injury takes some time to heal.

What's really bad is the second and third string backups could not stop a high school team. Very few players make it thru the season playing all the games

They couldn't stop a pee wee team!

Surely, what we have seen could not be indicative of a familiar Ravens team.  I'm sure we can decrease points against and sustain a few more drives come September game opener.  What irratates me is that we have to open the season in Denver again.

The jury is out on the first rd pick. It's not even the end of preseason and the feeling I have is something I hope to regret so I will stick with it's too early to tell and x my fingers. Meanwhile I think Crockett looks real good for a guy who wasn't used much to catch last year.Man's tough. So of course with the one ounce of football knowledge I have I see Jaelen Strong looking good - a character issue in the 3rd rd and I do a MMQB thing and wonder if the gamble on the first two picks will pay off. Well every pick is a gamble.

The rate and extent of injuries this season is alarming. At this rate, the NFL should increase roster sizes for the regular season and allow 2 IR (designated to return slots per team) and allow PUP placement for injuries occurred during training camp. It just seems to me that injuries are increasing in recent years. The reasons could be players are faster and stronger than before and their ligaments have to bear substantial musculature and stress. We cannot afford to lose Jernigan to any injury at this point.

That's part of it. modern medicine and science has taught us how to get muscles to be 3-5 times bigger and stronger than they are supposed to be. Modern medicine didn't teach us know how to strengthen an ACL or tendons or even bone mass.

My million dollar question is. Why is the NFL forcing players to hit lower and lower knowing that significant injuries are a direct result?

"Defenseless Receiver" rule is a joke! Tell me one WR on this planet that would rather take a hit under his waist when hes not looking instead of taking a blow "closer to his head"

How about spending a few million dollars RnD and come up with helmets that really prevent concussions. How about a helmet that's not a weapon? IDK maybe a helmet that has support both inside and outside to relieve the blow thrown by the tackler.

Imagine wearing a pillow for a helmet. How hard can you headbutt someone? but you can still put your shoulder down and cave someones chest in.

The NFL took the cheap easy rout and just eliminated high hits. The result is more ACL MCL and torn achillis and broken hips and ankles. Why am i not surprised that the NFL is more concerned to defend its back in court over players safety?

I agree with the post below. Rule changes are causing substantial injury increases. The unintended consequences of desk jockey decision makers.

We certainly haven't had the kind of start to this season, preseason I should say, that we would have liked. We've simply had Too many injuries. I hate to say it, but I think I'm ready to hand over Webby's starting position to Melvin. We just can't count on Webb, period. Camp, this guy is probably the most frustrating one to me. I honestly believe that he can be an actual star in this league as a slot receiver. But, my goodness, his injury history, albeit Much shorter than Webb's, is certainly no more reassuring. Talent wise, not considering injuries at all, I would actually say that I believe that SSS, Perriman, and Campanaro are the three Most talented receivers on this team. This is only Camp's second year, so just how much emphasis do you put on protecting his rights? I guarantee you that if we cut him, he will be signed the very same day he becomes available. He's just So talented, and I would hate to see him in another uniform but, doggone it, he can't be a star sitting injured on the sideline. I'd hate to make the call on him, but if I had to I'd still keep him another year. I just don't think I could bring myself to cut a guy with so much talent. I'd give him one more year to to, somehow, try to find a way to stay on the field. I kind of like our first string offense and defense, but I'm becoming more and more concerned about the quality of our depth. We shall see.
