[News] The Breakdown: Eisenberg's Five Thoughts vs. Redskins

42 posts in this topic

Excellent point. This has been an issue for years. The team knows it has the best PK in the league which unfortunately creates less urgency and planning to finish off drives. They know the 3 points are in the bag and play that way. The mindset should be nothing is given which would create more urgency once the O is in scoring position.

Short yardage is another issue that's a consistent issue. One would think that with the maulers Ravens have on the Oline they would blow Dlines up, but they don't . Compounding the problem is the formation compressing everyone tight which allows the D to do the same resulting in a mass of humanity nearly impossible to move. Go 4 wide on short yardage. It spreads the D out and gives more options on play calls.

Yet we may have lost a game or 2 last season by going for it on 4th down and failing to convert instead of taking the easy 3 point FG. Hard to figure out where the Ravens stand on this one.

Stan White was correct during game commentary that if Flacco were in at QB instead of a washed up Matt Schaub we'd have had a much better chance at scoring on the 4th and goal situation.

Let's face it there are some real problems here. Pre-game I get it but; lose to the dead skins????

Harbaugh is starting to act like his brother, not good........

The ole purple PR machine will be on full B$ mode for the rest of the week.

Here are some of my notes from the game -

-tray walker and Asa Jackson looked absolutely horrible in coverage and with tackling.

- Asa had 1 nice return but couldn't seem to put the afterburners on. Also made a bonehead play where he didn't call for a simple fair catch. Excuse me but one long return in which he couldn't even get in the endzone does not make me feel better about the return position. Once again we saw several muffed balls. We really need to go out and get a specialist.

- the referees really ruined the momentum we had goin by ejecting SSS and then negating the spectacular Crockett td. Steve didn't even throw a punch. Either way he had nearly 100 yards before the end of the 1st quarter. I'm sure we can expect to see much more of Steve lighting it up this year. That's somethin I'm def excited about.

-Crockett Gilmore made a gronk-esque type play where he bulldozed several defenders and dove for the td. Can't wait to see more from him and I expect him to light it up this year as well.

-flacco looked pretty smoothe. No worries here.

- we obviously missed talioferro dearly and we are going to need him badly for those short yardage situations. Desperately hoping he's back in time for Denver ( not holding my breath) bc buck Allen looked less than promising. I didn't seem him run for more than 2 yards not even one time. I don't care how the Oline performed, you have to do better than that, and you cannot turn the ball over, particularly on the goal line.

- lots of fluke plays that hurt us. Can't really do anything about that, it happens.

- we need to get an injury update on Jernigan. He didn't appear to be seriously injured but looks can be deceiving. He and Brandon Williams are the heart and soul of the d line and he is also desperately needed this year. Fingers are crossed that he's ok.

-Matt Schaub ! What can I say? One word, ugly.

- we could have had several more sacks if our guys would just wrap up. Saw a ton of poor tackling , and that is one thing that frustrated the hell out of me last year. Also once again our d line is making all the interceptions. Where are all the turnovers from our secondary ? They have showed absolutely nothin, and that has to change. We need guys to make interceptions and splash plays, and it seems like they play so far off the receivers it's almost like they are just letting them catch the ball. Go after it, we need ballhawks!

- finally, we obviously need perriman back to stretch the feild, and we need camp in the slot. It's essential that we get these guys healthy. They are the missing peices and once they both are good to go our offense is goin to be a real force.

- I take the final score with a grain of salt. Our first team was dominating, and several things we did would not have been done during the regular season, which is typical. However we have got to get better in the goal line and punch the ball on the damn end zone. Too many times have we been stuffed 4 plays in a row and left potential points on the feild . Again, this is where we need tali.

- have to get better at clock management. We are constantly taking bad timeouts. We also had another delay of game that hurt us bc the play call was late coming in. So the coaches need to work on things just as much as the players.

- Overall I am pleased with our team, but once again it comes down to the magic word; HEALTH.

don't tell me the scoreboard didn't tell the whole story, the whole story say's the starter's can't tackle in the open field, they wiffed on a sack on cousin's and the rest of the team are sorry tackler's. the secondary still look's like a problem to me,I you play vanilla in preseason, but tackling is tackling.

Scoreboard dind't tell the whole story, baloney. Our defense stinks. They weren't facing Tom Brady or Peyton Manning. They were facing a sub and he carved them up like turkey. If Asa Jackson is our best return man, we are in real trouble. He is no game changer like Jacoby Jones. More crap instead of truth. You had better hope that Schaub and Co. won't be on the field. They are just plain awful.

Don't worry about the secondary. When Smith plays it will be a very good unit. Without him it is average at best. We've known that since last year.

What would make you think that Joe won't be on the field?

Asa is a good return man him or camp will be above average, we know we cant count on deandre carter

Tray walker will make the team nothing else he wont be relied upon.  Asa Jackson will be our 4th or 5th CB nothing to worry about there either.

Buck Allen hasn't looked good.

I think even with Injuries we have a good DL, Jernigan and Williams could both be pro bowlers, Carl Davis is playing well and Lawrence Guy is solid. Tyson and Canty are average. KLM cut. Depth at DL is good i feel i hope Jernigan is ok but we can survive if he is slow to recover.

I dont know how the WR group is going to be we cant rely on Aiken, Brown or Camp to be productive 2nd or 3rd WR's i think the Perriman injury will last into the season and he wont be much of a contributor

Our TE's Will be good.

Most of the points you made i agree with.

we dont have to worry about our QB,OL,LB.

I am worried about Kendrick Lewis and the production from our 2nd RB Buck Allen if Taliaferro isn't ready.

As well as our #2 and #3 WR.

I have a few thoughts too. I don't think that Asa is the answer as our return man. Just One good play doesn't make up for mistakes that are more numerous. And he is Not a decent CB. Matt Scaub scares me. I realize that doesn't matter. He Will be our backup QB, but I pray that Joe remains as durable as he has been because I really don't want to see Schaub on the field. Absolutely, I realize that we couldn't keep Tyrod Taylor, but he is WAY outplaying Scaub so far this preseason. Just sayin' on that one. And last, look, I love SSS, and his incredibly high level of competitiveness. But, I've said from the beginning that he carries things a bit too far. Competitiveness is one thing, and I wish Every single player on our team had as much as he does. But, in all honesty, he Does play a bit out of control a Lot of the time. Yes, absolutely be competitive, but, you know what, how about having some self control as well? You don't have to trash talk to be competitive. And you don't have to be so out of control of yourself that you draw personal foul penalties and, worse, get yourself ejected from games. And I've felt this way Before Saturday's game. I repeat, I love SSS. I am Thrilled that he's a Raven. I believe that we need him and that he makes us a much better team. BUT, I also believe that he could remain just as competitive as he is, Without the trash talking and "looking for a fight" attitude that he portrays on the field. I, also, would have come to the defense of my teammate, Kamar Aiken after that dirty tackle, but it would not have been by doing so much that it got me thrown out of a game. Come on, SSS, you are unquestionably a leader on this team. But, we need you On the field, not thrown out of a game and watching it from a suite with your family. Keep the competitiveness, but lose "Napoleonic Complex", or whatever else it is that makes you feel like you have to act out to the degree that it hurts your team.
