The good, the bad, and the really bad vs Washington

An option would be to take a chance on Aldon Smith. We could give him a new role as a hybrid OLB/DE. Not sure about his suspension status but i don't think its for the full season or anything is it?

It hasn't been determined yet with regards to his guilt in his most recent arrest, so his suspension hasn't been given out yet. I would 100% take a chance on Aldon Smith though ...

That would be a disaster... multiple offenses...  No Way Ozzie does that...  That's just craziness....

Probably will be if he gets signed

It would be a debate within the organization for sure, his talent his all world so you have to do your due diligence. He's had substance abuse issues ... no domestic violence.

Yeah, but regardless, is consistently facing suspensions, and has been noted at his really bad off field decisions...  We don't need that drama here.

He listed 2 players who have an injury history and said that if they are not injured that the offense will be fine but yet somehow our secondary which has exactly the same problem needs depth?

I agreed about the offense needing to stay healthy because of the "uncertainty" at WR besides SSS. I'm fully aware that our OL and WR depth is not great per se, I'm just talking more about the defense in this conversation.

The good: Crockett Gillmore is an animal, the starting line looked solid, and the starting defense was pretty good. Steve Smith is a boss.

The bad: The secondary and our receivers not named Steve Smith.

The really bad: Literally everything else.

Yep, we HAVE to get this man a ring!

I firmly believe that with camp and maxx in the fray along with the vertical threat or decoy that is perriman our offense will be fine.

WE DEF need to bolster our Secondary. There is no way harbs and ozzie can feel comfortable with what they have seen esp after last year.

We don't even know if Maxx and Perriman are gonna be healthy enough to play at the same time.

“As far as coverage, I’d like to see a little more confidence,” Harbaugh said. “Get out there and challenge people and cover them. You have skills. Don’t back off and play like you think you can’t cover that guy. Get up there and cover him.”

Harbaugh finally gets it. CB's playing scared doesn't help the defense.

MAxx is for sure...i think they just left him out of the game because of the hits he took in the previous game..

Maybe he should talk to his DC. Because given it is all of them I doubt it is some personal decision they are making but more the cushion they are being told to give.

It's either the DC or the secondary coach. I'm not sure which, honestly.

From memory, Pees often mentioned that we don't want to get beat deep.

Yeah, but we did just sign that guy Lewis & extend Hill. That should fix the safety problem with getting beat deep. You play off when you aren't confident in your safeties, but the safeties should be OK.

A lot of the same on defense. He had some moments where he really flashed his ability, and other moments where he completely took himself out of the play.

I was oddly impressed by him on special teams. He had 3 plays that stood out to me - a near blocked punt and 2 efforts on returns where he was the first man down the field. Made a nice tackle on one of them, I believe.

Thanks.

Based off of his improved special teams play and overall solid ilb play I'm saying he is a roster lock.

Per PFF, KLM (+3.0), OLB Brennen Beyer (+2.0) and Carl davis (+1.5) graded out the highest for the #Ravens reserves on defense.

Hope this means they stay. With all these injuries we're gonna need them. Brennen has potential.

The last thing the Baltimore Ravens need is more bad PR.

Beyer seems like a PS guy, but KLM is getting helped by injuries

Pros: First team looked really good, but they were playing the Skins so meh. Flacco was very sharp. Steve Smith is still a great WR. Gillmore is legit. OL is very good even with a couple starters out.

Cons: WR depth is putrid. Marlon Brown doesn't deserve a roster spot. Schaub is a very shaky backup QB. Buck Allen isn't ready to be a main backup either.

Yup. The moment we get healthy we'll probably be really dangerous both sides of the ball. If Webb can be a servicable #2 and we stay healthy I'm realy excited. This is easily the most offensivley talented team we've ever put together.

You play off when you aren't confident in your CBs too. Everyone wants to see press man coverage, but outside of Jimmy we don't have the corners for it. Webb can play man when he's right, but that might never happen. Arrington can play some man, but he's also undersized. I haven't seen enough of Melvin but he struggled last year in press.

I remember everyone being furious that Melvin was playing off man last year in the playoff game against the Pats. Very few realized that we tried him in press and he got annihilated. Hopefully he's improved there this year.

So far, his press game looks twice as good, as does his zone. He's really figured out how to get in the receivers hip in press and how to break on the ball in zone. Dude put in work, and it shows, to me.

He probably did. It's the upside of having a young guy. Most of them improve. I would never know but I hope so. I don't think we're that bad off. I do agree a little more pass rush never hurts though. No I'm not claimoring for Aldon Smith

I thought so as well. I'd love to see it continue into the regular season. I'm sure he'll end up with quite a bit of playing time to see if he's legit.

Yeah Melvin was so awesome in off-coverage against the Pats, too... let's revisit that fruitless debate...

Walker might have struggled but everyone knows he's raw. Harbaugh gave him so Jimmy Smith-esque advice in the presser:

As far as coverage, I’d like to see a little more confidence. Get out there and challenge people and cover them. You have skills. Don’t back off and play like you think you can’t cover that guy. Get up there and cover him.

It's so hard to read our secondary...  There was a time when the corners would press cover...  We had good safeties back there, so the chance of getting open was so slim.  Now, with Questionable safeties back there, there's no way to cover short, and cover deep.  Somebody's gonna get open.  It's frustrating to watch.

Yeah that Ed Reed guy has spoiled us, you learn to appreciate having a guy that other teams are terrified to take a shot on deep.
