??? So they can sign Hill to an extension, but still nothing on the Tucker, Yanda, KO front. 3 pieces way more important then Hill with all due Respect. Your no Ed Reed who needs to be locked up instantly

Good job Ozzie extending Will Hill. I would love to see Ozzie to extend Courtney Upshaw before he has a big year. He too important in our run defense.

Steal from the Giants. I'm glad he has stayed out of trouble. I hope that trend continues because he is one of the best players on the back end in the NFL. A complete stud. I'm waiting for his pro bowl year this year. What a stud.

Hill was probably a very inexpensive and easy contract for the front office to get done.

There's no sense of urgency at this time to get the guys you mentioned done now.

Most likely they will franchise Tucker next season because that franchise tag is going to be a lot less than what he should actually be paid. Yanda they want to probably see how he plays out this season to see if they sign him or K.O. if it comes to the point you have to sign only one of them. Don't forget signing a guard isn't a big deal right now we have Urschel who stepped in amazingly as a starter last season. Signing Yanda now wouldn't be smart after being the highest rated offensive player last season. That calls for a huge contract. Love the guy and one of my favorite competitors, but the Will Hill signing is cheap and he is an amazing player. Him and Lewis play both FS and SS so you know how much that back end is going to screw with quarterbacks heads having them switch off which stays back and which falls down into the box.

exactly. There is no real incentive for the FO to sign yanda or tucker right now. They are already the top players at their position so they really have nothing to lose by waiting the season out and seeing if their performance drops or if they get injured. They don't just sign players bc we like them. This is a business.

Will hill on the other hand is smart to lock up right now bc he is still ascending and we can get a good deal on him now before he takes off and becomes one of the leagues top safety's.

Maybe just relax and let one of the best front offices in the NFL do their job.  B)

While I agree it's not as urgent as it will be next year, the thing is the team does have a TON of extra cap space (relative to our normal cap situation) this year and I'm sure they'd love to front-end a contract with someone like Yanda and get as much of it paid this year as possible.  They can still roll over some of that cap space next year, but right now I'm sure they are eager to get him locked up this year to take advantage of all that extra cap room.

Edit: January J pointed out that they can just roll over all of their extra cap, so this may not be an issue after all.

This is such a smart signing by Ozzie and Pat! Good for Will Hill! Keep up the good work and don't forget Baltimore's tradition - Bruising Defense!

what's the difference of now and then if all the cap space rolls over anyway? In theory it would actually be smarter to save that cap room this year since we have him locked up for the year anyway incase any other issues or needs arise that take priority. Edited by January J

While Yanda and Tucker are critical signings for us, I believe our edge setting LBer, the steadfast and humble Courtney Upshaw is next! I think he'll be a very important extension to get right now.

I don't think it matter really to get them signed this year. If we have enough to sign them all, why not let it play out. They are at the top of the charts as far as getting paid so it's not like their playing for a high contract. In a sense their playing to lose that contract said to say.

I thinks its urgent that we get as many deals as possible done this year, ESPECIALLY YANDA. for one, Flacco's cap jumps to 28 mil and he expects to be paid in the 20-21 mil a year range, so the more deals we get done this year, the clearer our cap picture is and the easier it will be to negotiate Joe's deal. 2, Yanda is the best interior OL in the game no question, 3 he is an unquestioned locker room leader, and 4 Osemele has had nagging injuries throughout his career, Yanda is a brick [crap]house and refuses to be injured, he plays, hard as hell, all the time. (knock on wood)

??? Perhaps there is a correlation on how important a guy is and how difficult it is to come to an agreement on an extension. Please stop it with  Ed Reed ... no one of his kind will be coming to the Ravens or anyone else for that matter anytime soon, perhaps not even in your lifetime.

This is one fewer starting position that we need to worry about next offseason. That's good news. Be happy.

Flacco's agent and the Ravens have already been in the works of extending him. Flacco has talked about making a more team friendly deal. He has been in the point of his life of being the highest paid now I think he just wants his team to succeed. Wouldn't surprise me if Upshaw got signed before the season as well.

NICE! love the idea of WHIII growing into his RAVE ROLE! His ability is unquestionable... good to have him around long enough to mature and achieve up to his capabilities! Congrats Will!

It's a good question, I had originally thought there was a per year limit on rollover, but apparently there isn't. That's great news. Even more reason not to worry as much. :29:

One issue is that they have to set their max cap space to roll over two weeks before the start of the season.  I would assume they're just going to set it at the max and if something comes up during the year (like needing to sign a dang cornerback again) they'll use some of that there instead. /shrug

He's a solid guy to have around, but teams are always willing to overpay for our DE/OLB hybrids, and they've got young guys (Za'Darius and Steven Means) who they're pretty high on right now.
