Ravens extend SS Will Hill

Wow. I'm a little surprised, TBH. I didn't expect it with his background. I called that one wrong.

It's good news, though, as long as he stays clean. He'll be great. I wonder what we paid.

Obviously good news as long as he continues playing well. Flip side, have to wonder what he will do with all this new found money. Guy just doesn't seem to have his head on straight.

Gotta give him a chance, I suppose, with our safety play. He's the best thing we got back there and good safeties are rare like unicorns and DL who can apply pressure. Maybe he pays his child support? Might be a start Edited by GrimCoconut

Honestly as long as a player doesn't have a violent misconduct or life endangering behavior like a DUI I don't really mind discretion.  I'm really happy with hill, I think he's the difference make we were looking for.

Yeah, but he was suspended 3 times in his first 3 years. For weed and for PED's. One slip up and he's gone. Obviously I'm hoping it doesn't happen. Just saying, get these guys back around their child hood friends with the kind of cash they have, usually doesn't end well.

Agreed, I'm just talking morality.  As opposed to you know... certain other players.

he actually has had his head on straight for a while now. People change. Esp. When they have children.

Congrats Hill.  In order for the Ravens to offer him this deal, they must believe in him.

Hopes he makes us all proud.

I agree, he has kept clean so far and played well.

Love this move. I think it will only help Hill's confidence on the field to know that this organization is committed to him and he's not just a one year rental this year, our plan is to make him a Raven long term. It will also helps his psyche off the field, he's truly a part of the Ravens family now and he won't want to disappoint Ozzie, Harbs, or his teammates.

I read somewhere I can't source atm that this is essentially just another year with the team. That he'll be a free agent after the 2017 season. Is that accurate?

I would say with this Signing, the Lewis signing, and the Brooks draft pick.....yes.

Maybe after next season, but I think they'll let him play out the rookie contract. There's no reason not to.

It's through the 2016 season, so it encompasses this season and the following season, basically 1 year extension. Not exactly a long term deal but it prevents him from entering FA if he has a pro bowl year this year like he very well could.

Nice little way to show he's appreciated but to still mitigate risk.  I imagine it's a "more where that came from" if he's stays out of trouble type of thing.

This is great news. It's just 2 years, so it gives the Ravens some time to make sure he is dependable while ensuring his services in the short term.

Makes next offseason's priorities much simpler: Tucker, Yanda, and Osemele. Maybe all 3 can get done.

Like other have said.  This is a great signing by Ozzie in terms of length and money.  Really not much of a loss if he messes up again in terms of cap space (losing the talent will hurt) and you get a talented guy at a premier position in the NFL for very cheap.

He stayed out of trouble for a while and now he got paid. See how that works? I hope Will Hill continues learning from past mistakes. Really talented and could have a nice carreer in Baltimore for sure.

While this takes away a key free agent this coming offseason, it does add one to 2017 where Brandon Williams and Rick Wagner are the current key free agents due then.  There are some other lesser guys as well, but those look to be the key free agents.
