[News] Arthur Brown Trying To Avoid The Bubble

25 posts in this topic

At this point, I'm going to assume Brown can't get the mental aspect of the game down. This is his 3rd year in this scheme and for the light switch to not come on tells me it's a comprehension issue w/ him.  From everything I've read, he has exceptional speed, so you would think that would be in his favor to get on the field on special teams.  But if he doesn't know or remember his assignments, his speed is a waste.   At this point he won't see the field on def b/c of Mosley and D. Smith, but to not make the field on ST when you're gifted physically, just doesn't make sense.

It seems to be just a matter of time before the Ravens give him his walking papers. A second round pick who doesn't even stand out on Special Teams....in year three?

Honestly i would have moved Upshaw inside, and Brown outside....Brown has the speed which he was known for coming out of college, and Upshaw is stout against the run....would have been worth a look, as personally i'm not thrilled with our ILBer depth...JMO...

Sometimes it takes players longer to develop and if ravens have the space and time to allow him to do that why not? He has the skill and frame, he's just having a tough time with the mental aspect of the game. I wouldn't call him a bust just yet. He played better last week then I've seen him play so he is make strides to become more than what he is. We were saying the same thing about Jimmy and look what.

It would be a shame to see Arthur get cut. There are many teams that would give something to have him with his Ravens' pedigree. We need a return specialist. We have never won a Super Bowl without one. Hopefully wishing for another Jacoby Jones or Jermaine Lewis by the start of the season. And Arthur gets on a team he can play for.

It may finally be clicking for Arthur. He is looking pretty good this preseason, although it has been against the second string offenses, but hey it is a start.

Well good luck Arthur! Right after the final preseason game, the bubble will burst and you will either be outside looking in or find yourself in it. Hopefully you make the roster because you have the potential to be really good.

A strange ILB battle is shaping up here between Orr, Brown, and McClellan. Do we keep the two young guys or keep McClellan for experience? It's an unexpected competition here. As of right now, in my opinion, McClellan has been the worst of the three outside of that headsup vet forced fumble last week. Orr and Brown have at least had flashes of good play, and Orr has a leg up on McClellan because he's a good STer. We'll see how this shapes up.

You know this criticism isn't warranted we all know in his rookie season he did well in place of jameel mclain but his progressed was slowed due to cj mosely taking a lot of his starter reps then after that it was stopped again with zach orr no offense to him so you can't stand out if ur not really given a chance outside of small opportunities so no he isn't a bust he's just finally getting a chance to develop and learn at the nfl level after so many stops

Seems kind of unfair to judge him based on the Eagles game. They didn't scheme for that weird offense, and the Eagles didn't show any of that stuff during their practices together. ILBs, unlike CBs or linemen, can't just play by ear, they need prep time and coordination with the rest of the team. Pretty sure anyone short of #52 would look silly in that situation.

Brown makes the team... this is a bunch of negative hype. If anyone watched the game vs the eagles... the kid can play... his biggest issue is his physicality at the point of attack and sometimes he doesn't want to take a direct route to the play.... he tries to rely on his speed and backdoor plays too much. He needs more experience to be quicker on finding his run-throughs and to continue to pack on a little more muscle. He is a ball player and just needs some developmental things. Fortunately we have DSMith and CJ in front of him giving him time do develop in this capacity. THis isn't abnormal for MLBs coming into the league. Look at the Bears with Alec Ogletree and JBostic.... both very high draft picks who struggled early on with the same problems. Look at the Bengals Rey Melauga same issues... look at the sqeelers Ryan Shazier... this is not uncommon in this league and it typically takes a MLB 3-4 years to grow into that physical type of body (heck it took our own DSmith how long to reach his potential)>? We are a little spoiled in BMORE bc we had RLewis come in and do it from day 1... CJ looks to be from a similar mold (yet different style). ABrown is a ball player and that is obvious-just needs to grow more physical and he is doing that but that also takes time. I do not believe that he is going anywhere. The Ravens know what they have in him and the luxury of not needing him right now... but they also know how quickly depth in a position can be depleted! Aurthur is not on any bubble... he makes the team and contributes significantly more this year!

I personally think that McClellan is let go this year. WHile Orr struggled at times so has McClellan and they both can positively impact ST play... but McClellan will come cheaper and with more potential upside. Both are versatile and both are cerebral in their approach to the game but I just feel like Orr is a step fast and with more developmental potential. I think we keep CJ, DSmith, A Brown and Orr.... on the outside We have Suggs, Doom, Upshaw and ZZmith.... that is 8 LBS (I feel like McClellan is the odd man out this year)!

Wishing AB the best but the window is closing slowly on him! A player can't mess around with this squad "ESPECIALLY" at the LBer position! I wonder can they get him a spot on another team?! I'm jus sayin

I hope he survives the cut. I was so excited when they took him because we needed LBs that were speedy and could cover in space. That seems to be the knock on him now. C'mon AB!!!! Year 3...this is it bruh.

Brown is great in preseason game against third and fourth string and the game is out of reach. This guy is too slow

Sorry but the only reason why Orr is still on the team is because Brown can't/won't play special teams. I say won't because EVERYONE that has ever played a day of football knows how to play special teams. I now see why Ray Lewis didn't want to welcome him on our team and took the first chance to welcome CJ and give him advice. If we are lucky we can trade him for a late draft pick or a legit returner. I had high hopes for Brown when we drafted him but I have already faced the fact he doesn't have the work ethic or desire to be a starting NFL player.

CaliRaven: What do you mean Ray didn't want to welcome AB? Where's that coming from? Sorry, but I missed that.

"Brown has had a hard time trying to break through with the Ravens." Maybe he should play some where else? This is a business not a charity place nor is it fair for others who can break thru or take a roster spot. Third year and your still on third string MOVE ON.
