Wallers potential could mean a bright future in Baltimore.

Physically Waller compares well to Mike Evans but is actually faster.

All Waller needs is confidence in himself and he may turn out to be real good. When he was drafted, I was the most excited about him and where we got him.

agree

hey , you called it. It's always cool goin back and seein everybody's comments about players before the draft now that everything has panned out. Boy was I off. I think I may have called Maxx Williams at some point but that was about it. Still bummed we didn't snag diggs. Esp now seeing him excel in the return game. Smh

hes gotta realize that potential first.

dont get me wrong, im thrilled about waller, i love his potential, and i cant wait to see what his future is, and if both him and perriman pan out then that makes a deadly tandem at wr, but he is still a project, granted hes much further along than tommy streeter or any of the other 6'5" projects we've failed with, and i think he finds himself, at the very least, a spot on this team as a 3rd or 4th WR, which is great for a 6th round pick, but he has a long way to go before he can become a #2, and frankly we havent seen anywhere near enough to say he is good enough to be that special, but there absolutely is reason for excitement.

you had some harsh words about him before the draft. Granted I don't think anybody expected him to come along as fast as he has.

That's a good hit right there, nice job. I hope Waller pans out more quickly than my dark horse from the prior season's pre draft, which was Camp.

Thanx, even a blind squirrel finds an acorn every now and then.  The F.O. has brass ones though. I wouldn't have waited so long. I thought 3rd round, maybe 4th at risk. Really didn't want him to get away. It worked out, now both of our picks have to step up.

I'm counting upon Camp as well. We will need him if Perriman to be out for any length of time. Nice call there.

I'm a big fan of the Ravens and the game. The game has come a long way since Harold Carmichael. You need to have a guy like Waller.  I think the hesitancy must have been the last "athlete" out of Georgia Tech without a full resume. That was Stephen Hill and he hasn't panned out. Clubs were scared. By the way nice call on Max Williams. I love him.

yup, I wasn't even close to being a Darren Waller fan, I. Eating my words right now lol. In what limited tape I saw I thought he looked extremely stiff and lumbering, I just didn't think he had the movement in him to play at this level, but he looks a lot more fluid than what I remember

Don't forget Trestman likes big receivers

Where does this idea come from? Jeffrey and Marshall were both there before Trestman even got to Chicago and in 2013, Bennett was the top tight end available in that free agent class. I'm sure Trestman just wants good receivers, but his ability to tailor the offense to fit those three and then come in and help someone as short as Camp to explode should say something. Either way, I have hope for Waller

Go ask him . He has made it known he likes big sized receivers

Here's one quote from numerous publications saying the same thing : Mobile-friendly - May 1, 2015 - “We do not absolutely need a wide receiver.” A more ... Ravens liked Breshad Perriman from the start ... Great fit as a vertical threat for Joe Flacco, has the size that Trestman likes.

Where's that a quote from and I would prefer to see a quote from Trestman that says he likes big receivers.

Now that Trestman is in Baltimore, how important is it for him to have a big target as a centerpiece of his offense?

“They come in all shapes and sizes in this league,” Trestman said. “I think it’s our job as coaches to work with the guys that you’re given, and make the best out of that, and create opportunities for them, whether it’s through their size, or their speed or their quickness.”

Rather than specifically seeking out a big-bodied target through free agency or the draft, Trestman stressed that he’s more interested in capitalizing on the strengths of the players he has across the board.

“I just embrace the opportunity to coach the guys that are here and the guys that we’re going to get,” Trestman said.

This is exactly what I was saying

Sure he's gonna say that now because we have quite a few small receivers .

Tons of publications have indicated he wants big receivers . You are in the minority bro pulling the comments from the Ravens website where Trestman is gonna

Be shall I say it politically correct

If several publications are saying it, there should be no reason I can't find it when I Google "Tredtman wants big receivers" and there shouldn't be any issue for you to find one like I asked. You're pigeonholing him based on what he already had in Chicago before he even went there.

Well that's how I found it .GOOGLE.

Plenty of different publications saying it .

Trestman loves BIG receivers. The bigger the better. He said in a tweet that he favors getting ex NBA star Yao Ming, 7ft 6 inches to play the slot and lob the ball into him in 3rd down and Red Zone situations.

Yao Ming retweeted that his foot still hurts from the 2010 injury but that he would play if he didn't have to run training camp.

Easy to say when he had big receivers in Chicago. Smaller receivers are going to be the wave of the future who can operate in space and get separation from these big corners. Look at Cobb, beckham, brown, Hilton. And Steve smith is going to do just fine in this offense. Edited by ravensdan

I think about some of the comments regarding fan's fears and panic for the season.  When you think about the potential of Gilmore, Waller, Perryman, adding depth to Steve Smith????  Along with a couple of others like Max???  You gotta think, that's a heck of receiving corps.

I don't think the wide receivers outside of Steve are going to be that good early on. If we could get one or two big plays a game from Perriman early on that would be a huge surprise. He already needed time to develop and is now way behind. Same with Waller. If these guys can be big contributors late in the year and the playoffs that is the best case scenario. I expect to see a lot of two tight end sets as well as running backs involved in the passing game early on. With this Oline the Ravens are still a top 5 type of running attack. So that's the type of offense I expect to be most effective early on.

Probably, I think Gilmore is gonna be huge...

I didnt see much of anything from Waller.   I know they gave him a ton of more snaps than other vying candidate for that #6 spot.   He played small for a big guy.   Short dunk passes, he found a way to get them.   Big passes, he shrunk and played poorly.

Yeah, Waller did not have a good game.  (He wasn't alone.)

Didn't see any "Big Passes" though and he didn't drop any either.

If we are gonna cut guys on that game you're gonna need two buses to take them away.

Flacco sure likes guys he knows something about though. S.Smith goes out and he goes 4 for 9 and looks lost. (Excluding the nullified Gilmore TD)

I don't know, I'd be thinking about how Cousins went 20 for 27 after a great Suggs pick.

At least Pittsburgh looked woeful too, but they will throw deep.

Yes, its official....am starting to worry. At least Peyton Manning is looking old.

This WR has a lot of ability to win 1 on 1 battles with size and speed mismatches. Brown, Waller, Aiken, and Williams can all use their bodies effectively while Camp, SSS, and Forsett has great agility and speed to cause issues for bigger defenders. I will not worry too much about Waller because he may not have alot of playing time but he comes from a school whose offense is built off the play action and Flacco is always on fire when the play action is working well. Plus with all that size, you have some serious holes opening up for the running game too.
