Wallers potential could mean a bright future in Baltimore.

155 posts in this topic

hes gotta realize that potential first.

dont get me wrong, im thrilled about waller, i love his potential, and i cant wait to see what his future is, and if both him and perriman pan out then that makes a deadly tandem at wr, but he is still a project, granted hes much further along than tommy streeter or any of the other 6'5" projects we've failed with, and i think he finds himself, at the very least, a spot on this team as a 3rd or 4th WR, which is great for a 6th round pick, but he has a long way to go before he can become a #2, and frankly we havent seen anywhere near enough to say he is good enough to be that special, but there absolutely is reason for excitement.

From the sample size we have seen I would take a chance on him over Butler and Carter at this point just off the fact that his size alone will cause attention in the backend of a defense. Waller could have hands of stone but no DC in their right mind would leave him alone with a 5'11 or 6'0 CB, especially near the red zone. That shift in attention will get Williams, Gilmore, or Smith open definitely and he would not even have to touch the ball. Not to mention he has blocked pretty well so there is that. I agree that he still has a long way to go but I think that is the awesome part of it. If he still has a long way to go and people are this excited already, imagine when he actually gets there? If camp can stay healthy and we can acquire some good depth at WR down the road, Flacco gets at least another ring before he turns 33, if not sooner(barring any collapse in the D over that time, as well as coaching and Ozzy still being here of course lolz).

Flacco just turned 30 right?

I'm saying, with Waller's help, Flacco gets another ring before he turns 31...and that after Week 8 and into the Playoffs, Waller is our most significant Wide Receiver. Our Tight Ends will contribute mightily as well.

I'm all in on Perriman, but he's going to miss all Training Camp and Preseason.  Waller is going to be an integral part of the story This Year.

All I'm really worried about is the Defensive Line and Secondary. 5-3 going into Week 9 is part of the plan.

Hope so, for the first time in my 5-year career as a Ravens supporter I've bet money on Baltimore winning the SB. Go Ravens!

Personally, I'm more anxious about the O-line right now. It doesn't matter who's catching balls and how tall they are, if Joe doesn't get (adequate) protection.

Good Luck!

I get feelings about certain things. I have the feeling.

My current read on the O Line is that it was very good last year and the injuries we face right now are not malingering.  Monroe, Osemele, Zuttah, Yanda, Wagner...........if they are all there for a good part of the year, we should be more than fine. We've got very good seconds in Hurst and Urshel as well. Reid and Jensen look improved and the draftee may be more than we currently understand. I think he may make the cut.

The Defense is what concerns me. Linebacker is great. The rest of it less reassuring. If we don't win it all, it's likely going to be due to weakness there.

I'm wondering if Waller is our best deep threat /w Perriman out. Even if he is a little slow off the line (and I am aware of his 40 time), he is always open with that size, kind of like how Mike Evans and Vjax are good down-field threats.

I agree. With waller being that size and perrimen out, he should. Be the obvious deep threat, isn't he only behind BP as far as 40 time? One of the great things about waller being that size and that fast, means he is deceptively fast, that really messes with dbs ans safeties. I believe big ray said the same about Arian foster about his speed for a bigger rb. Right now I think he's a lock for the roster and I think we could see a late surge later in the year from him. Waller, BP, and SSS.... Gotta love that.

Precisely.  The other players rarely see a guy that big move that fast. He puts them to sleep and then his stride separates from them.  Right now, he has much better separation ability than most give him credit for.

Our staff and QB understand what they have. It's up to Waller now. Be mature, keep his head, catch the ball and put it away. If he does those things the sky is the limit this year.

At this point, I really can't see why they wouldn't give Waller a chance.  He's likely the fastest WR left when it comes to running a straight line and with Perriman out until who know when, we need a deep threat.  Outside of Smith Sr, only Waller and Campanaro have been consistent in training camp and preseason games.  He's clearly not as big a project as he was made out to be.  Per his own words, he never thought he could go this far so he never took being a player seriously.  Now he's working extra hard and you can see it any time you watch him.

I'm still holding out hope that Harbaugh treats the WRs in tomorrow's game like he did in the 2013 preseason and let's the ones who have been performing the best thus far get most of the snaps with the 1s.  He let Mellette and Brown started over Doss, Thompson, Williams, and whoever else we had that wasn't playing as well.  I'd like to see John do the same thing this week with Waller and Campanaro if he's healthy.

Going to enjoy watching this kid Grow.  I was big on the Ravens drafting Funchess who seems to be the next Kelvin Benjamin in Carolina.  We'll see, but it's hard to deny a guys with the same skill set, experience, size, and quicker feet for mere 6th round pick.

Perriman has all the pressure on him because his greatness is apparent.  I hope he doesn't shy from that.  Waller has no where to go but up, really.  He just keeps doing what he does and he'll be a top target before too long.  The pressure is off and the results show.

I hope you're right, fingers crossed.

Definitely, I LOVE our starting unit and the primary backups have done good thus far! You just never know with injuries in this game.

Here's to good health and a phenomenal season for our boys in purple.

I'm pretty confident Waller makes this team. I'd wager money on it if I actually bet. I'm not advocating gambling only showing my confidence in him making the 53.

Don't think anyone would bet agaist that at this point, will also be curious to see what he can do on special teams

I read somewhere that he's a pretty good gunner

Hoping for it, Ravens Nation. Kinda annoys me how the Steelers find all these late round gems at receiver. We're due to find one too.

i just really hope they didnt find another one with coates. he could be a total bust, but he could also be scary dominant as a deep threat.

I've seen a lot of traits from Waller in this small sample size to make me believe he has a good chance to contribute. As long as he stays healthy and makes plays he may just be a player for us.

- Uses his size well to gain better positioning

- Has great body control and seems to be a very solid blocker

- He's shown great hands so far, catches the ball off his body nicely and can high point it which needs to be his trademark

- Doesn't have blazing speed (4.46 is not bad though) but he covers a lot ground

Exactly what I've been thinking for the last few years.  One of these days our kid has to figure it out eventually.

Out of all the tall receivers we had hope in past seasons ( Clarence Moore, etc) this kid truly has the skills to become

a major contributor .

I want to see Joe throwing to this kid during the Redskins game .

Don't forget Trestman likes big receivers

Trestman supposedly likes big receivers and he likes throwing the ball deep.  He should love Waller

If Waller can hold on to the ball flacco will turn him into our version of Megatron, or we can call him MEGAWALL. FLACCO needs WRs that can hold on to the ball,

From what I read a about this kid so far is that he uses his body well to shield defenders.

I hope so, since one of the criticisms of Marlon is that he doesn't "play big." We need a big bully like Waller. Both Waller and Brown could learn a thing or two about using their bodies to get open by watching some Anquan Boldin highlights.

You are right . Anquan did play bigger . Number one highlight they should look at is Joe's critical throw to Anquan in the Super Bowl late in that game to the sideline for a monster first down.

Nice memory.

What Quan had was the ability to rebound. He was Moses Malone and Flacco had just figured it out. Those two TD's in the Pats game also highlighted how Joe had mentally gotten the memo.
