[News] Ravens Questions Still Left Unanswered

33 posts in this topic

WR looked like one of our deepest, strongest, positions going into camp, but now it seems like a concern. After SSS, I think that Perriman and Campanaro are our most talented receivers. I am confident that Perriman can still be great in the long run, but with his lingering injury, he may not be in football shape at the beginning of the year. Camp continues to get hurt on a regular basis. Aiken hasn't been as great as he was early in camp, and I'm not sure he can be a consistent starter. Marlon didn't impress early in camp and OTAs, and he's been dealing with multiple injuries. Butler's great practices haven't transferred to the games. Waller seems to be the lone bright spot right now, but he's still raw, and I'm not sure he's ready to be a starter. Right now, if teams want to stack the box or blitz us, we really don't have anyone that will scare defenses out of going with single man coverage. Let's hope that we are just getting the injuries out of the way in the preseason and we will be ready to go in a couple weeks. We could still have a great receiving corps, but they need to get healthy and get on the field.

It's hard to tell what they need, because the nagging injuries are affecting half of the guys they are talking about. I would be very interested in them picking up a corner off the waiver wire once training camp ends and some notable guys come available. Webb is just not durable enough for us to count on to start. With Lewis, Arrington, Melvin and another guy or two, we should be at least better than last year. They probably need an outside rushing LB. They definitely do not have a return guy showing up. I do not like any of the guys they have put out there including Campanaro. He will be toast in the first week if he is running back kicks with his delicate health.

Smith, Brown and Aiken will be at wide receiver. This will be fine since we also have Gilmore and Williams to complement them. That is all the targets that Flacco needs. Getting Campanaro and Perriman back healthy will be gravy.

The whole secondary will be far better with a healthy Jimmy Smith. Melvin or Vaughn are fine at corner as long as Smith, Hill, Lewis and Arrington are on the field with them.

We really need Davis and KLM to step up. If they do we will have one of the best defensive front sevens in the NFL.

The offensive line looks great. There are no injuries that worry me whatsoever.

KR/PR is an area of interest. ONE GOAL...DON'T FUMBLE.

This team can win a lot of games. The biggest factors in close games (as always) will be not turning the ball over and running the ball in the 4th quarter. Justin tucker is our ace in the hole.

Ozzie better be watching the wire for players. Ravens need a lot of help.

Ozzie and staff will be watching the wire 24/7 without a doubt, that is how we got Dumervil before other teams had a chance. Every possible name is on file to make phone calls within seconds. Think Muhammad Ali was fast, under the covers before the lights went out? No worries, Ozzie is so fast, the ink will be dried before ESPN announce a release, he has it under control.

I don't think Oz will be watching the wire as hard as some might think, due to the fact none of our key players are out for the year, like some other teams.....Our guys have some bumps and bruises but all expected to be ready for opening day....Only spot i see us watching the wire for is a KR/PR.....Maybe a ILBer if none of the backups show the promise we need them to show....

there might more than 1 addition come roster cuts, WR/KR&PR/DBs positions are all need more depth. if jackson does't get it together, his time is up in B-more.

ILB for the ravens is deep, I don't c any addition there, but safety, CB , WR, PR/KR IS WHERE I c Ozzie making moves.

I'd add tackle to your list based on injuries (although none very serious)

Steve Smith and LWebb will not return  kickoffs.  That is pure conjecture.. Webb gets hurt all the time and SS wants to play all out as our #1 reciever. Asa Jackson is there by default  Hate to say it but at least number 27 jersey has use again. I'm glad I never threw mine away. That is a big problem if Jackson ends up on pup.  Time to come up with two more backups beside those afore mentioned. Buck Allen is one candidate IMO

Why not try McGee at kick returner? He seems pretty quick and shifty and with Taliaferro's injury he is a borderline #3 RB who has looked pretty good in preseason. Plus he has been around for a while, so should not make rookie mistakes.

Has anyone seen an official injury report? What is the status/severity of all our injuries?

There is no "official" injury report until the season starts. Teams are not required to disclose injuries in the preseason.

OK, thanks. How about unofficial news on the severity of our injuries?

Since it's not required, I wouldn't hold my breath. I think the team would like to keep it quiet.

Magee is a rookie and he's practiced kick returns since Monday.  Harbs said he looked good back there returning kicks w/ his speed and quickness.

I thought they had a plan for when they let Jacoby Jones go?

Having a plan and having that plan come to fruition are two different things. Not all plans work out.

I'm interested In seein Magee return some kicks on Saturday. He seems like he's got that spark to him where he runs like his tail is on fire. That's what we need. I want to see a guy who runs north /south and bursts through defenders without dancing around and running sideways... Or muffing the ball & not even getting a shot to run it back at all.

the plan was hoping that jackson or camp would turn out to succeed JJ, but they r injury prone. cutting JJ and taking the cap hit was crazy, not much saving there. but hey, ozzie will find a way to solve the problem.

Give Carter another chance, looks like he's the only one who can stay on the field.  Seen him play @ Sac State a lot and he gets better with time & reps.  BIG THINGS COME IN SMALL PACKAGES.  Isn't that right Mr.  Smith.

Carter is not worth giving up a WR spot for! WE need Jackson and Campinaron to return. The WR core is going to need SR, Aiken, Brown Campinaro, Butler and Waller. Then when Perriman is ready it looks like either Butler or Waller steps out. Carter is out unless we go with 1 less on Defense.
