[News] Dean Pees 'Absolutely Concerned' About Lardarius Webb's Absence

38 posts in this topic

Time to move on. Guys who continue to get hurt are useless on an NFL football team. Nothing personal, he's now becoming a big liability -- a guy we continue to count on but can't get on the field.

In my opinion, Webb has lost the starting job. He just simply can't stay healthy which has rendered his play inconsistent. He'll look great breaking up passes but then on the next play will just get burned down the sideline or completely miss a tackle. Can't win the super bowl on pass rush alone. I hope Melvin just continues to improve throughout the season so that he and Jimmy can get in a groove because you don't want to split reps at corner or really any DB position. Those guys need to build chemistry and non-vocal communication.

Sooner than later we're going to have to move on from Webb, we rely on him but can't count on him and that's a problem, always injured always getting burned by a receiver, and we pay him too much for that.

two words, injury prone. The guy is a good player but he cant be counted on. I hope the Ravens don't cut a good player just to keep him on the roster.

When we assessed the upcoming season, our high hopes hinged on a lot of things going right. The most significant things were that our starting corners would be healthy, our speedy rookie receiver would have a fairly immediate impact and the WRs behind him (Brown, Aiken and Camp) would be making it hard for the staff to determine who to leave off the field.

So far, none of those things seem to be pointing in the right direction and we're getting dangerously close to the season starting. Throw on top of that the fact that the OL has been decimated and there are many things causing "concern" at this point.

IMO...We can use all the CB's we have, after last years nightmare, even if Webb were to come off the bench, would benefit us having veteran back there if we face injuries, which i'm sure we will have some DB's get dinged up throughout the season....Silver lining is even if Webb comes back and starts, Melvin will have had the reps to be ready to step in if anyone gets injured...

We need Webb, but for him also, this is the last year.

If he doesn't provide good play for a requisite number of games, we'll have to move on.  The options to do that at this point are not favorable.

I say we let Rashad Melvin have that #2 cornerback position let him learn on the fly and by playoffs he should be able to handle his own. With Jimmy and Rashad we can play tight man coverage instead of that cover 2 crap. This will allow Dum and Sizz more time to do what they do best. This is just my opinion now but Rashad is further alone than Jimmy was in year 2 of his career so I say let him play.

Pump the brakes. When he starts missing multiple regular season games, I'll be concerned.

Cutting him this season isn't really an option I don't think, because we gain literally nothing from doing that and at the very least lose potential depth by doing so (even if it is overpaid depth, but that's a sunk cost at this point).

Cassius Vaughn played well against the Eagles - he was one of the few bright spots. Maybe he should get a shot at the #2 CB spot. As much as I like Webby, this song is really growing old.

I say give the #2 to Melvin and let webby be a slot or rotational guy. no need in him taking time away from the guys who will be the ones playing by the end of the season b.c he is hurt. Might as well let those guys get adjusted and get the playing time they will need come the playoffs. Besides it will allow webby to last longer and we will have that potential big play he is capable of when he goes in fresh.

Agree that its worrisome but trying to stay optimistic. Must suck for Webb to be called out again due to injuries but gotta give him one last chance

Webb is not worth half the money he's making with all the injuries. I know Ravens couldn't cut him this off-season because they would not have saved anything with that dead money, but if I've understood correctly, Ravens should be able to save quite a bit next year if they cut him. If he can't stay healthy for at least 3/4 of the season + playoffs, I'd like to see him go. We can't waste 9 mil on a dude who's injured for the bigger part of the season.

When they cut him next year I believe management will secure decent players for way less money under short term contracts. The secondary gets decimated every year and the more bodies theory is their decisive course.   I like him and he made a steelar play in the last home game (Browns) last season but that was against a rookie QB named Shaw. Its seems he and Jimmie are on a injury carosel and the secondary has very little healthy player luck.

It looks like the Team decision is to start a healthy Melvin over an iinjured Webb.  Pees has got to pull his hair out with worry with three weeks to "the game" against Manning..

Don't jinx us with that Jimmy talk, man! He's been quite fragile as well, luckily seems healthy thus far. Hope he can avoid any serious long term injuries and he should be alright.

Webb on the other hand is like a porcelain vase - falls down once and more often than not will be broken for awhile.

Well if Webb doesn't get back on the field soon, I can see where we will be cutting costs when Flacco gets his extension. At that time, I think Webb will stick to his guns and want to stay at his base which will not fly with the FO.

BPA next year better be a DB or pass rusher

In order to secure home playoff games this is a concern. Who do you start against Manning? It wasn't that long ago the Ravens were trying to use Dominique Foxworth, Fabian Washington, and Frank Walker, and this unknown rookie named Webb emerged to settle down one of the corner slots.

Time for Melvin or another to step up and take this position over, NFL means Not For Long, Webb's body has been saying such for a while now.

$9.5M cap number, only $3.5M of that is dead money.

Cap savings from cutting him next offseason would be $6M.

If he's not healthy this season, seems like a foregone conclusion.

Webb hasn't be to any Pro Bowls yet or won a DPOY but is almost like our Cornerback version of former Colts Safety Bob Sanders. Smaller DB, not afraid to tackle and mix it up at all, made plays early ( ints, sacks, Fumble Forces or Recoveries) on in his career but always seemed to get injured.

3 years ago, Webb seemed to be emerging as potential Top 10 Corner in the league, a hidden gem within the Ravens defense, but a second ACL, then back injury etc have led to an obvious decline last season, hamstring injury right now can't make things any better.

I was very positive about the secondary, knowing Webb & Smith would have healthy outlooks, with Arrington and Melvin rounding things along with Asa Jackson... IMO if Asa Jackson makes the team it will be for his special teams ability, hasn't show much as DB in limited action, I haven't looked at Vaughn enough yet.

hope ravens find a top corner next year. can't put this much pressure on jimmy smith anymore. i don't think melvin is a solid 2 yet (let alone 1).

This guy needs to man up and do it now. The time to step up for him is now if he wants to stay here. Why do the RAVENs hang on to players who are always getting hurt and sitting out practices and training camps. Webb won't be ready and was not ready when he reported.

Just one more overpaid player that doesn't have what it takes and is content to sit on the bench and get paid. Put his butt out on the street. Ngata was like that too and is pulling the same crap in Detroit right now.

They do the same thing that 31 other NFL teams do. If every NFL team just cut players who aren't healthy, two things would happen:

1. They wouldn't be able to fill a 53 man roster

2. They'd lose a lot of games every single year.
