[News] RB Lorenzo Taliaferro To Miss A 'Few Weeks,' Other Injury Updates

54 posts in this topic

Taliaferro got injured trying to tackle the guy who was returning an interception. Is it possible that coaches don't tell those players who have absolutely no problems to make the 53-man roster to avoid stuff like that in exhibition games? Such players should just show the coaches they are there, in the right position, and that they COULD make the takle if it were an official game. But do not risk anything like that in a preseason game!

Hope you get well soon! I'm really glad we have Rick Wagner and Jah Reid back, hopefully our line looks better again. We have other RBs on the roster, but who's closest by skillset? I guess we can use Juice as the power back. I hope to see more of Magee too.

He did! It seemed to me like LT chased the guy down and took his foot off the gas near the end coz the runner was going out. Jensen if I'm not mistaken just went all in and hurt LT who wasn't expecting that. It's unfortunate when things like this happen

Soft tissue? As much as I am rooting on Campanaro I refuse to keep getting my hopes up. He appears to be comprised of 'soft tissue'. Enough is enough, here.

Hoping the best for him but was thinking the same thing... soft

Hey, it's depth :D Our OL is depleted right now, everybody counts. Of course, I'd rather just have 3 Marshall Yanda's and 2 KO's

I don't know if I should cry or laugh at Campanaro's injuries. I hope it's fictitious diagnosis as a precautionary measure just to keep him out and healthy until our week 1 game and maybe throw the Broncos defensive game planning off just a bit. Otherwise it's getting ridiculous already.

You are mistaken.  Hurst landed on him while they were both attempting to make the tackle.  Hurst was injured on the play as well and suffered a concussion.

I love Camp and I think he can do great things but you just can't rely on him. Too many times now over two years he has had a "soft tissue" injury. I was hoping we could cut Asa Jackson and Camp could take over the returner role and save a roster spot that I was hoping would be filled by Darren Waller. Now if we have to go out and pick up a returner after cuts are made, then we lose that spot. Unfortunately, you can't make roster decisions that cause you to rely on a guy that is always "lame". Like I said I love Camp's energy and play making ability but if he was a horse, he'd be glue right now. (please no animal comments it is just an analogy).

I seriously doubt it.  Campanaro is not a seasoned vet who has the luxury to sit out pre-season games.  He needs as many reps as possible between now and Denver.

The Ravens can never trust Camp. One game of production just for him to pull a hammy walking out of the locker room and missing 4 weeks. He just doesn't have the body to make it in the NFL. What will happen when a linebacker smacks him? He may turn into a cloud of dust.

I am not worried about Camps injury except that it leaves us void of knowing who our KR /PR man will be... I just assumed it would be his spot but now IDK>... I see Ozzie bringing someone else is at this point (after teams make cuts to get the roster down)

Camp is not getting cut. I'm pretty sure his leg was just a little tender and was sat as another precautionary measure. No worries.

As far as the o line- I really wish we would have picked up lael Collins while we had the chance. Can't believe that many teams passed up on him just bc he was questioned in a murder investigation. The cowboys got a steal. A projected first round pick for next to nothing when their o line is already stout.

That's what I'm afraid of. Which illustrates how ridiculous the situation with Camp is.

Why are we not trying McGee as a kick returner? He is a pretty fast, shifty RB and with Taliaferro's injury he is a boarderline #3 RB.

we are. Hopefully we'll se him Saturday as well.

None of his prior injuries in the NFL were ligament/joint related. They were all muscle related. It's kind of weird that they're being so vague this time by just saying "soft tissue".

I misspoke, they were all "muscle-related", but there's still a difference between a pulled muscle (his hamstring injury) or a slight tear (his quadriceps injury) and what sounds more like a contusion.  The former are from poor ligament/joint support (my original point) while the latter is usually just bad luck.

In many cases, muscle strains and tears have nothing to do with poor joint support. They are often caused by muscle imbalances, such as the quad being much stronger than the hamstring, which causes uneven pull and torque, which can lead to strains and tears. A lack of flexibility or stiffness in the muscle can cause that as well. But I see what you're saying as far as one being about issues with the body and another being about taking a bad hit or falling awkwardly.  The problem is, we don't even know if he does just have a contusion. "Soft tissue" injury could mean almost anything, and it scares me a little that Harbaugh is being so vague about it, and I'm surprised the media hasn't tried to get him to be a little more specific.

I agree that it's probably not a fictitious injury, but I wouldn't say Camp needs as many reps as possible between now and Denver, other than to prove that he can stay healthy. He missed a lot of time last year, as a rookie, but the coaches still had enough confidence in him to put him on the field in the playoffs, even on the final drive with the season on the line, where he converted a 1st down despite getting hammered. He would obviously benefit from more reps, but if he didn't play again until week 1, I would be confident that he could still make plays. Whether or not he can actually stay on the field remains to be seen.

Thanks for the addt'l info on those injuries, you're of course right about those also being potential causes.  I know that sometimes poor joint/ligament support (possibly from damage or bad genetics, in my case) can also cause imbalanced muscles as your body compensates by changing the way you distribute your weight, which can then manifest in muscle tears/strains.  I have a lack of sufficient cartilage in my joints, which puts extra strain on my ligaments and the surrounding muscles, leading to very strong thighs but weaker calves.  I get a lot of hamstring pulls and tears as a result.  But everybody's different, of course, and as you said poor muscle flexibility could definitely be a part of it, especially since Camp's solution was to take up yoga, probably at the suggestion of his trainers/sports medicine doctors.  My hope is that the "soft tissue" injury remark is an attempt by Harbaugh to be more vague because he's clearly getting irritated with making statements about injuries and looking bad when they turn out differently than he'd been told.  He's said as much wrt to Perriman, that he was going to "get out of the injury prediction business", etc.
