[News] CB Rashaan Melvin ‘Hungry’ For Starting Job

41 posts in this topic

I'm concerned. A lot of players seem to be hungry. What are the Ravens doing not feeding these guys?

And all these heat related issues preventing guys from finishing practice... they give popsicles to the fans, I say they start giving them to the corners!

I hope he progresses and makes a good showing this Saturday, we need him to. Obviously Webb has become as reliable as a weatherman on TV.

Webb is a problem for the Ravens ! We will draft a corner in the first round next year.

I was thinking a tackle with the first but... you really never know how the draft falls but really don't see Ozzie passing on a better talent for a need (unless he trades back)

This Melvin was a good pickup by Ozzie. This young man has talent and could be another "gem" find by Ozzie.

Melvin brings great size to the position, and has shown he can tackle...Regardless if he starts or not, he will get PT, as i don't see our starting secondary making it through the entire season without getting dinged up...Plus Pees does rotate the CB's depending on the situations, and if one of them is winded....But i liked Melvins game last year, and he looks to be doing better this year...

He was on Tampa's PS all year until we snagged him when we ran out of CB's...Kid was thrwon into the fire, and played extremely well for us, and i don't see him regressing...

Now all we need is to shore up our return game! We need to hire a specialist if Campanaro can't be relied upon game in and game out. Asa and DeAndre aren't going to cut it.

All anyone on this team needs to do to be "THE" starter this season is, STAY HEALTHY. It's a job of attrition! We're pretty thin already and it looks to go into the season that way. Heck, I bet if I hung around practices enough, they'd give me a shot! I'd work for peanuts, literally, I LOVE peanuts! (and maybe some of that purple kool-aid they serve there to wash it down with):-)

Every team is going to line their best receiver against whoever is playing opposite of Jimmy Smith. That side of the field will need help regardless cause outside of J Smith, I don't think we have a CB that can match up against the Brown, Aj Green, D Thomas that we will see this year.

Its not if he is going to start, it's if he can keep it. Webb not going to be there in Denver. Webb will not be in football shape.

I would like it if he played a little closer to the receiver, but he is probably being coached to play way off. If he continues to make solid wrap-up tackles, I think he can at least be a Cary Williams-caliber starter in this league. Sure tackling, or a lack thereof, pretty much lost us the NE game. I'm sure getting picked on during his final game of the season gave Melvin all the motivation he could ever need.

Ravens fans were spoiled by Ed Reed.Ed was able to make average player great in the secondary. There is no one now even close and this love fest for Webb is strange

The great thing about rashaan melvin (and tray walker for that matter) being on this team is they can both lean on jimmy smith for advice & tips. Being a 6ft corner is hard in the nfl because they usually have problems w/ quickness and hip fluidity. Jimmy knows exactly what they need to do to get better in those areas. Jimmy started off his career w/ those same issues. Coaches can only do so much. Sometimes, it's more effective to have your learning supplemented by an active player who went through & conquered the weaknesses you have.

I love the potiental our Defense has this year. Melvin will no doubt be a huge part of our success and will lock down the other side of Jimmy for years to come.

Why spend a 1st round pick on a corner if Melvin turns out like Jimmy. I have major faith in this guy and if I already had to guess a #1 pick for next year it would be a OLB. We need youth at that position especially since we will be losing Upshaw.

Webb is a problem for the Ravens ! We will draft a corner in the first round next year.

If Melvin beats out Webb....that is a good problem to have... We know Webb can play (when healthy).... Melvin playing at a high level means that Webb has time to heal and that we have more depth then we anticipated!

Love what Arrington has done... would love to see more Cassius Vaughn but glad we have a ton more depth then last season! (Not liking Asa's chances of making this team and Tray Walker may not be much better) but ST could be the ticket for both!
