[News] Late For Work 8/24: Why Terrell Suggs' Hit Was Not Illegal Or Cheap

93 posts in this topic

The hit was very Legal. All ball carriers can be hit in the legs and knees. Bradford was declared a runner when he squared his shoulders to the sideline giving him the ability to pull and run. Kelly saying this was not a zone read is nonsense. Suggs would have been blocked for an inside handoff. He wasn't so the Eagles could option him.

Suggs did an extremely smart thing. The best way to stop zone reads it to put hits on the QB. The more hits they get, the less likely they will want to carry out their fakes. The Ravens play the Seahawks, 49ers, Chiefs, Dolphins, and possibly Manziel this year. Suggs risked the 15 yard penalty in a preseason game to make sure the ruled would be scrutinized as it has been. This way when it comes up in the regular season we will not be getting hit with a 15 yard penalty.

The Suggs hate is sick. The haters are forgoing the NFL's official stance saying it was legal and going right to Suggs' intent was to hurt rather than make a football play. Some are refuting NFL that is was a read-option play. Even I it was play-action Bradford was not in a throwing position, but a running position. In 14 years how many dirty hits has Suggs delivered? Legarette Blount? Arguable at best. Before then, what? There's no pattern...unlike a player like Hine Ward or even modern day players like Suh. Stink hit it on the head - The game is played at full speed and how does anyone know what Sugs was actually thinking? People are stupid.
