[News] Defense Explains Reasons For Philly Woes

54 posts in this topic

Malfunctioning headsets are no excuse for getting manhandled but it makes sense that the defense perhaps played worse as a result. The Ravens could ill afford any additional delays or confusion in needed defensive adjustments. If this was a regular season game, Harbs would have been up in arms over malfunctioning equipment but it doesn't begin to explain the massive amount of defensive woes we witnessed.

Harbaugh can talk all he wants about not game planning the no huddle offense but we seem to have trouble with every year since He's been here. The Bengals have huge success with it when they play us so I'm sure we will see it again this season.

How can you play team defense when 1/2 the team is just standing around.......Just practice, get all the bugs out......Play Ball...

i think its time that we give up on marlon brown, kamar aiken, and deandre carter, yeah they have potential but how long does potential take? there just like deonote thompson, could be good but won't be. they should be cut because if hey haven't gotten it by now then they most likely won't get it. I would love to see how daniel brown does against the ones. WRs that make the team should be steve smith, perriman, campinarro, waller, daniel brown. and marlon brown if we just need to have 6 WR but I wouldn't be mad if we cut him

"We don’t want to let them jump on us 14 points, but it’s the NFL,” Suggs said. “Sometimes that happens where teams jump out on you, but it’s all about how you respond. I think we responded pretty well."

... by allowing 16 more points before the first Ravens-score?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not one to panic after any pre-season losses, and I don't think the D suddenly forgot how to play well - it's just that this one sentence sounds pretty lame.

This argument about the lack of game plan sounds legit - but what about the Eagles? They had a game plan?

I think it's rather time that we stop writing out of frustration. Leads to no good.

I'm totally relieved that it was a radio problem that caused the debacle last night. To think, I thought that Coach Kelly turned Harbaugh into an uninspiring highschool coach. Of course not. It was the congested airways. And Pees not understanding, not being able to confront the Eagles fast break power offense. Once again, let's allude to those allusive electrons. Trestman didn't wake up until the tanks stopped clanking over us. He must have been listening to "Songs from the 50's". If this wasn't explained to me that, somewhere out there in radio land, failing batteries screwed up our play, I would be totally pissed. I wonder, down the road, if there's a team creating a fast break power offense just for us. Who cares. Harbaugh will go out and buy a crap load of energizers and our entire coaching staff can don the pink bunny costume.

Probably not, but I think the point is that it's more difficult to succeed with a vanilla base defense against an unconventional offense. By definition, playing against anything unconventional requires a certain level of planning.

@verified Kamar Aiken and Marlon Brown are still very good players and will still make the team. DeAndre Carter and Jeremy Butler will be the odd man out in my opinion or put them in the practice squad.

Kelly is a cutting edge coach period.....and we don't have that.....No imagination,No thinking outside the box.........

yeah, I think their game plan was to show us nothing but vanilla all week in practice, then mess with our headsets, and pull out all the stops. Chip needed a beatdown over somebody/anybody badly after all the scrutiny he's been under, and we were his sacrificial lamb on national TV. And the refs just handed it to him after Sizzle tried to argue with them.

Still, no excuses. We're better than that.

What I did like is that defense started to remind me of the Seahawks hard tackling skills like when somebody get the football they tackle him hard aggressively. I like that style of play.

The radio communication along with the fact that NOBODY came ready to play.

Looks like the only one that gets it is Will Hill. Everyone else wants to pass the buck. Be ready to play. Obviously, only the Eagles were ready.

The next game against Redskins is Saturday evening, not Thursday evening. Just pointing that out so no one orders Domino's/Roy's Kwik Korner by mistake is all. (Yes, I miss Roy's Kwik Korner now I am in NC lol)

Ravens need to stop crying about penalties To make it to the SB they have to get past the biggest crybaby Brady and the cheats.

Must have seen a different game than I did.  On my TV set Melvin looked good and Arrington at least adequate.

I hate to go paranoid on everybody here but it's fairly easy to create static at selected times with a simple wide band frequency generator.  Mind you I'm not accusing the Eagles organization but I am suspicious of their fans.  After all it is Philadelphia.

I don't think the Ravens were 'crying'.  We, the fans, seem to be the ones most angry.  And for good reason.  The refs were obviously incompetent.  Before the game we were told they were using the game to train rookie refs - and it showed.  Now, to be fair, the rookie refs need to be cut some slack.  They were in the act of learning their trade.  So they're gonna make a lot of mistakes.  The good news is they made them in pre-season where it doesn't count for much except to anger fans who expected better.  Part way through the first half I realized what was happening and then just dismissed any flags thrown from then on as probably incorrect.  Instead I forgot about the score and just concentrated on how various players were doing.

I am hearing a number of excuses...which is not something I typically hear from the Ravens. The radio had nothing to do with the team failing to tackle. There is no game plan that can save you when you simply can't cover people or tackle them. And while some of the penalties were ridiculous, there were some pretty clear ones like when Suggs essentially clotheslined the TE coming over the middle. I don't know how you think you will get away with that one. The Ravens came out flat on offense and defense. I have a feeling if this was a regular season game the outcome would be different because there would be a game plan in effect and guys would have shaken off the pre-season rust. But yeah, the Ravens were just simply outplayed. It happens. Time to learn what you can from it and move on.

What I saw: Injuries decimated O-line and could have accounted for poor pass protection and inconsistent results on offense. Guys that normally would be sitting are playing and playing out of position. This is the NFL though and you got to be ready to seize your moments. Nobody did that against the Eagles. The front three on defense were virtually invisible all night. Flashes from some players but overall inconsistent play. Cassius Vaughn at least is in position to make plays, but isn't a playmaker. Deandre Carter is JAG. Can't make crucial catches and isn't making a name for himself as a returner. Asa Jackson looks to be winning the starting returner job...and after him I think we better be looking for outside help. Tom Nelson probably won't make the team and he was 3rd string? Probably would have seen Camp if he was playing.
