The good, the bad, and the really bad vs Eagles

Too much confidence and too little common sense.

We didnt treat the opponent with any respect. We deserved to lose in embarrassing fashion.

I'm giving the team a pass on judgement for this game.

A) They've been stuck up there in Philly all week. Away from their facilities ect..

B) The Ravens were running vanilla stuff. Philly was running no huddle offense in week 2 of pre season...they were trying real hard for a pre season game.

Ran into some into some Eagles fans on the way home who saw my Ravens lanyard. Tried to talk trash. I just asked them how their last Super Bowl parade was. Lol.

And that explains a lot of what we tried tonight. Sure, I was not happy about the interceptions, but this is the time for Flacco to figure out how fast his receivers run during a game when adrenaline is flowing.

The first was a good pass, Aiken it should have been a PI. You could see the Eagles DB hook his left arm clearly on replay.

The second was just over thrown. It happens.

It's not as if he misread the defense and threw right to anyone.

I actually heard mike mayok mentioning the eagles making a possible run to the superbowl because of their performance tonight. I literally lol'd @ that, dude is such a clown.

... and unfortunately it is not fast enough.

PI? Maybe, but you can't count on that and Aiken could get no separation. We need someone to stretch the field and there is only one on the roster that can ... and we wait.

I'm not sure if we really treated them with any lack of respect.. It's preseason there's very little game planning going on all the players are doing is just playing .

While it could be argued he was interfered with, I'm cool with that being a no call (too many ticky tack fouls as it is). As far as my issues with the officials tonight, that play would have ranked around 83rd.

calling it now, kendrick lewis is going to have an awful season.

Are you capable of a positive prediction? If so, let's hear it. That way, if you are right, you can gloat and everyone will be happy about it.

We got issues, I'm not the type to get worked up over a preseason game either. You have to be at least concerned with what we saw from the 1's on both sides of the ball.

Offense:

1. Lack of Tempo - The offense has zero rhythm or sense of urgency to it and that's my biggest takeaway. That has nothing to do with preseason, that is just the way the offense operates and it needs to change. What better example than the Eagles, their tempo flustered our 1's on defense every drive they were out there. Our offense huddles and lines up in slow motion, the defense has all day to make substitutions and diagnose/make calls pre-snap. Get these defenders on their toes, get them thinking, get them out of their comfort zone. Look how fast tempo the Packers, Patriots, Eagles play, the best offenses in football have good tempo.

2. Overly Conservative Offense - I know you don't want to completely show your hand in preseason but I was not fond of Trestman's playcalling psychology. Yes, we are a run first team.. but you have to keep the defense honest on early downs. The biggest detractor from someone like Cam Cameron's offense was we were predictable to a fault.  Tonight we looked predictable, the defense had committed to the run or the pass on nearly every down pre-snap. I'll cut Trestman some slack, it is just preseason after all but we needed to be more active in the passing game on early downs. The classic Ravens 3 and out of run-run-pass needs to go, be unpredictable.

3. Joe Was Off His Game- This is something I'm not worried about. Both picks were Flacco's fault however, under threw Aiken and over threw Marlon. Joe will shrug this off, I expect him to be sharp in the dress rehearsal game.

4. Darren Waller - The one bright spot on that side of the ball tonight. He's made it abundantly clear that he isn't Tommy Streeter or Aron Riley, he's the real deal and he's here to stay. Nice to see him get his first TD after a strong week of practice. Now we just need to get him out there with the 1's, he's earned it.

Defense:

1. The System is Failing - Look at the Patriots playoff game last year and look at the 1's tonight, same story, different game. The tempo offenses absolutely kill us. Wires get crossed, guys don't get covered, match ups get exploited, giant run lanes open up, we look lost, we flat out look lost and I put that on Pees. We have top 10 personnel on defense and don't get top 10 results, that is not going to cut it if we are talking Super Bowl contender. Right now it doesn't look like we are equipped to stop any high powered offense with Pees system.

2. The Secondary has Zero Depth - Depth? We don't even have a consistent #2 corner with how often Webb is banged up let alone any depth. Melvin has some potential but potential doesn't win football games. We yet again look undermanned in the secondary and we haven't even had the regular season injuries hit yet. We need another corner who can play, we will get barbecued if we go against a top passing offense.

3. Special Teams is Sloppy - No excuse for that PR touchdown. Poor angles, missed tackles, a seminar on a poor Punt coverage. Harbs and Rosburg will have this up in the film room bright and early tomorrow.

I'm concerned about the offense. Our depth at WR and OL is paper thin, and Trestman is no Kubiak. If we still had Kubiak I wouldn't be concerned at all.

Agreed especially on Pees. I have never been a fan of him. Same story every year since he became DC.

WR yes. Oline were well off. Hurst and Urschel are good depth pieces and I haven't hated Jensen.

Not worried about Marc. Why would we show our best hand? It'd be foolish. Kubiak did that as well.

We looked MUCH better in preseason last year.

And my testament is that I'd rather look like crap right now than in the regular season. And we had bad games in the preseason last year too. Just saying.

We got whooped. Happens. But in preseason I could honestly care less

There really no game planing involved in preseason games whats really the point to have all this fast tempo stuff if all this game is about is to evaluate players.. Yeah some of the plays may have been predictable but what if Marc Trestman wanted to see how  well our offensive line could run block  or other things. You want to see all this flashy type play calling in a preseason game ? That's just not what The Ravens are going to do and they been doing this for quite awhile...

You say Dean Pees system is failing just like in the playoff game last year against The Patriots. Hmm the last time I checked The Patriots is the same team that had to use tricks plays and ineligible receiver trick play(it's banned now) against The Ravens to help them win the game. You don't do that type of stuff if the defensive system  is failing... i really don't see why Dean Pees have to step up his playcalling or make his scheme more complex in a preseason game especially the second preseason game.

I'm not really concerned about the secondary honestly  and you can't have elite players at every position.. You really think The Ravens are going to be able to find a starting number 2 cornerback at this present time? and what team is really going to  be willing to give up a cornerback like that in a trade? Not many in my opinion. The only cornerbacks available with starting experience out their in free agency is Chris Cooks and  Alfonzo Dennard

The Good: Arthur Brown played well. Cassius Vaughn was good. The run game was good. We got pressure on the qb.

The Bad: Injuries robbed us of a few key players (some played like Jimmy but he didn't look the same). Secondary as whole played poorly. Flacco looked bad. Both his ints were his fault. Penalties
