[News] Late For Work 8/20: Steve Smith Grumpy After Missing Wife's Birthday, Schools Eagles Rookie

59 posts in this topic

People can freak out all they want about Perriman, but he was going to be a long-term project anyway. In the short-term, we have enough pieces to get it done downfield. Oh, and people seem to forget that we're a run first offense and we have a coordinator that knows how to use what's at his disposal to get first downs. RBs are going to be getting the ball in space more than we'll be throwing deep downfield until Perriman returns which could very well be the Denver game. That's been a formula of success for plenty SB-winning teams before. Everyone needs to just chill about Breshad. We aren't rushing our future back to the field because we have depth at receiver. That's why depth is so important and Ozzie never overlooks it. We'll be fine.

The best 3 WR's should be on the field Week 1 and it sounds like Camp is earning it. Good for him, he is also an explosive player which is what all the pundits say we lack without Perriman.

The knee history provides 0 backstory to Perriman's current injury if the condition only affects you as a child. Therefore it is pointless to publish.

Sounds like Timmy be beasting. It's official, I'm buying his jersey.

So, it's a sprained PCL for Perriman. That almost automatically mean at least the whole pre-season is out for him - and I would say not even his week#1 play is so sure anymore.

And all that from "nothing really, a day or too."

Campanaro, Perriman, and Darren Waller starting Wrs for the future. :-)

That is a good possibility.   The other day someone brought up the idea of Perriman and Waller as the starters next season and all I could think of is Perriman and Campanaro could be the Raven's version of Welker and Moss.

It wasn't too long ago that fans were saying the Ravens should drop Camp and I kept talking about how last season he was one of the team's best receivers and it doesn't make sense to drop him right now.  But I guess I was wrong about Waller.  I always saw him as a project that the team would have to stash on IR.  Between the fact that he was still a very raw player and he struggled with drops earlier in the offseason I thought he wasn't going to make the cut.  Right now I think he slips in and Brown might be the odd man out.

BREAKING NEWSJamison Hensley tweeted: "Ravens WR Breshad Perriman is watching from sideline with a brace on right knee. He has a sprained PCL and hasn't practiced since July 30.".This means Perriman will be out whole pre-season, at least. Someone needs to start giving some answers from the Ravens training staff ASAP! Why wasn't the MRI scheduled sooner?? How the hell did they miss a sprained PCL for 2 freaking weeks?!?! Because the only 2 explinations I can come up with are either someone didn't bother to move their lazy butt to do their damn job, OR someone is not competent enough to figure these injuries out. Either way, I believe I'm not the only one who wants some serious questions answered and see some heads roll for missing this!

simmer down dude your jumping to conclusions. Don't believe everything you read.

Not at all liking the news about Perriman's Osgood-Schlatter disease... saying the pain could get "excruciating" and that "if somebody just grazed his knee cap, the pain could level him." Not good...not good at all... Am I the only one like, "W T French Toast!!"

I'm just goin to speak for everybody when I give you 1 big

Get over yourself. Perriman will be fine. No sense in bringin him back during a joint practice where the opposing team is less careful about avoiding injuries to our players. I would almost guarentee he will be back by next Monday at the latest.

I'll go ya 1better.......he will not be playing........maybe all year(i hope i'm wrong).......Still a good pick? Hey i watch every play and want to win every game.......but this guy ain't gonna get it.....

So by your reasoning, Chicago's Kevin White (7th overall pick) who could possibly miss all season is a bust also?

Prognosis of a PCL tear

With appropriate management, most patients with a minor to moderate PCL tear (grades 1 and 2) can return to sport or normal activity within 2 – 8 weeks.

I'll assume that the Raven's knew about this condition before the draft, and got the OK from their medical staff (let's hope they knew about it!). So where do we go from here with Perriman?

Super Bowl 50.

It's nice to hear Flacco state that he's already taken a big pay day, and that it no longer matters as much. The reality is that he knows the Ravens will offer him a generous extension, and he's probably not going to break the bank. He'll still be up there with the top 5 or so in average salary, but the cap hits will likely be a bit more friendly. With the rising cap -- Joe, the Ravens, and us fans should be in a great position for the next 5-7 years.

Doubt flacco 's agent feels the same (lets hope flacco don't just leave it up to the agent).

Wonder why sss didn't request his wife's bday as one of his off/rest days?

True. I posted this article by Dr. Bobby Esbrandt (who provided the information in the update to this LFW) in another thread, but it might be good to post it here too. Some highlights:

The pain symptoms associated with Osgood-Schlatter's resolve on their own once the adolescent stops growing and reaches skeletal maturity. Given Perriman's age (nearly 22) and impressive stature (6'3", 210 lbs), I think it's safe to say he doesn't have another growth spurt left in tank.

It is important to understand that this is NOT a lifelong issue and Perriman's current injury and extended absence from practice is completely unrelated. The ONLY lingering side effect into adulthood is the presence of a more prominent tibial tuberosity [the bump at the top of the tibia, just under the knee cap].

And

The severity of Perriman's sprain will dictate how long he can be expected to be sidelined. Grade I and II PCL sprains are treated non-surgically and can take several weeks to recover from. Grade III PCL tears typically require surgical intervention. Given the handling of Perriman's injury thus far, I imagine he suffered a Grade I sprain. If this is true, I would anticipate seeing him back in action within the next two weeks.

Nope, but it doesn't matter either way because...

"Update: Dr. Bobby Esbrandt, a physical therapy and performance enhancement specialist, tweeted to me this morning to say Perriman’s history as a youth doesn’t impact his knee today. Good to know! Thank you, Dr. Esbrandt."

@sgellison @B_Perriman11's history of having Osgood Schlatter's as an adolescent has absolutely no impact on his condition now. Not an issue

I swear some people like bohica5 need to do research before he comments. Breshad is too much of a big play threat to be labled a bust. You cant label a bust until after three years. Not before his first season.
