[News] Late For Work 8/19: With Training Camp In Books, Let's Predict 53-Man Roster

50 posts in this topic

Still a lot of bubble players. Only players that were locked were pretty much starters and a couple back ups with roles. It's sad to think Waller our 6th round pick may be cut but I think that Waller has the higher ceiling out of him and Butler and Butler has slowed down a lot. One player I haven't heard at all this offseason is Tray Walker. How has he been playing? Does he look like he can be a potential starting cornerback in 2-3 years?

Honestly, I wouldn't care if Melvin takes Webb's starting spot.  Best man for the job. Put the best 11 on defense on the field to win the game, if that's Melvin, so be it.

BTW, can they come up w/ something more original than Melvin's Island??

I don't think that Melvin will replace Webb... just yet. Over time, maybe, he is healthier and he is showing promise, but he hasn't yet earned fulltime trust. Webb's injuries however are a problem though, so if Melvin keeps showing up and Webb does nothing to increase his own stock, it might be a matter of time.

There is really no reason to point out who may be cut once you've already named the locks and bubble players. Especially when you consider that several of those on the cut list will make the practice squad and could feature in the 53 at some point. Remember these guys are fighting for their futures and it's probably crushing to go on the team website and see your name next to 'projected cut'. A little compassion please.

This is the the time of the year I hate most!

So many players that the Ravens have invested time, money, and picks are on the bubble. Some of them will be gone for little to no compensation.

Ozzie has really stacked up on picks for a few years now. Unfortunately, these few weeks are when we say goodbye and other teams vulture on ravens picks.

Here's to hoping Ozzie gets some value instead of just releasing studs. I'm sure he already has a Plan B C and D and can't wait to see what's in store.

Ravens all the way!

Quite the crazy brawl between the Cowboys and Rams. Last thing we need is to lose a player to some freak injury fighting in Philly. Hope the Ravens are disciplined enough to limit testiness to a minor scuffle or exchange of words. That brawl was totally out of control, not worth the risk of injury and nothing productive was gained by that extreme level of nonsense. Hoping our guys get back to Baltimore healthy for the long season ahead.

You do have a point there. It must be tough going online and finding your name on the "cut list" or a guys mom or sister being crushed my reading such.

The good news for the next 10 guys that don't make the 53 man roster is that they won't stay on the practice squad for too long.

I see Webb starting if he can stay healthy...I have always praised Melvin even after the N.E game seeing they threw every trick in the book at us, tough on a youngster...Brings great size, and will tackle...He will get PT as he will be part of the rotation, and i'm not 100% confident our starters will go the entire season without a injury of some type....My concern is the 5th and maybe 6th CB, as they got shredded last week....

"Starting cornerback Lardarius Webb missed his third straight practice Tuesday after sitting for the Ravens’ preseason opener Thursday due to a hamstring injury.

It doesn’t seem to be very alarming at this point, (...)"

Sarah, are you aware, that since Perriman's injury, the phrase "it doesn't seem to be alarming" is the most alarming news? :)

Webb's health is a concern, because the #2 CB is the one who's targeted most often. I think we can all agree that Jimmy Smith has grown to be our #1 corner by now, one at which QB's will be much more reluctant to throw. So, the #2 CB becomes a critical position. A helathy and in-form Webb would be a great solution - but if not, let's hope Melvin will, indeed prove to be the next big thing.

For a second when I read "Camp's Done", I thought Michael Campanaro was out for the season. Thank God that's not the case.

Me too.....

I think most of the guys - and their families, friends etc... - who seem to be on the wrong side of the cut line are more or less aware that they're most probably be cut.

For the same reason, I don't mind if anyone takes anyone else's spot, until it happens because he is better. No sacred cows and immovable objects on the depth chart (with the sole exception of Brandon Williams, who is phisically an immovable object...)

I love Melvin last year and saw him play some serious ball! Why did these other teams let him go? Prime example of a stud needing a chance. I quickly became a fan of him and I hope he becomes an island. This man can play. Smith, Melvin and Arrington is a great combo. Healthy Webb in the mix we will have one of the best secondary in the league. That will give us one of the best if not the best defense in the league. Bring back the Baltimore bully D. Opps it is back

If Webb is healthy by week 1 I can't see Melvin taking his starting job (unless of course they try to rest him or something). Melvin played well in a starting role last year but he made his fair share of mistakes, especially with missed tackles. A healthy Webb is better than Melvin plain and simple, problem is: when is the last time Webb was fully healthy? A fully healthy Webb is one of the best all around corners in the NFL. I don't have a problem with the FO taking it slow with him even if it's a minor injury simply because of his history.

As far as the mock roster goes: after the game last week I'd rather have a new rookie FA in Perry than Trawick, he was just plain awful in all phases of the game. Maybe he gets his act together this week. Hopefully Perry gets more playing time against the Eagles.

And by the way, the surprise center battle between Jensen and Easton may get interesting if Easton plays so well again this week. I'd hate to lose a good lineman because he isn't as versatile.

as long as melvin has improved from his play from the patriots game last year where he was awful than i am all for him making the team and even being a starter. harbs and pees need to make sure our depth in the secondary is much improved. cannot afford to miss out on the sb again due to poor depth

Said it before, i consider ourselves lucky so far, so many teams have lost key players for the year with injuries after week 1 of pre-season.....I think we have 1 player placed on IR and that was a TE who probably wasn't going to make the team...We got some dings, but not season ending type so far...And as far as Arthur Brown, let him play with the 2nd string this week and see how he does, even if we want to trade him, we have to show case him a bit...

Ravens should have kept Terry Brooks on the PUP list....give him more time to heal properly and give the Ravens more time to evaluate a guy like Perry.

Hoping everyone plays nice this week in Philadelphia and comes home healthy.

I think Perry will be getting reps at SS, and Brooks will see action at FS...I would think that would be the plan with Elam out...I am rooting for Perry to make the team....

I think the coolest idea is to let Jimmy Smith and Melvin play as our outside corners. Then putting Webb and having Arrington will gives us a good mixtures of corners in the slot position. Darren Waller should be in the 53 man roster because he got raw talent. I believe this kid could be special with Joe. I saw him in person yesterday and he is huge Wr man. Let that kid develop with Joe and give him some reps because he could be a monster receiver for us. I believe that Perriman and Darren Waller could be our starting Wrs in the future. :-)

Whew I started reading the headline and thought something had happened to Campanaro! Brief scare :)

Same here. Also, the idea of Melvin replacing Webb is idiotic.

I am excited to see how some of these guys develop.... Carl Davis looks to be plug in and play guy as do a couple of rookies... (Maxx -Perriman-etc.) but I am most excited to see how all of the 2nd year guys progress. Timmy J, Brooks, LTalifero, CJ, Gilmore, Hurst, Urschel, Melvin (kinda), Forsett (2nd year raven), SSS (same), Campanaro, and Will Hill etc... That is 12 players from just last season (or about 1/5th of our roster) they played great last year... if they can step up their game another notch along with solid contribution from our rookies and 1st year players like Kendrick Lewis... etc. We will be very difficult to beat on a weekly basis! (and for some time to come)

Good to hear that Benard Pierce is doing well but wow in he in a loaded backfield. 1. BP, 2. TJ Yeldon 3. Denard Robinson 4. Storm Johnson 5. Toby Gearhart.... IDK.... but that seems like a lot of talent... maybe JAX isn't getting the most out of the talent they have and why we ended up with a diamond in the rough in Forsett?????
