[News] News And Notes: John Harbaugh Gets Political After Practice

72 posts in this topic

Harbs had me until he said he was "going Trump." Not too sure what he was trying to say, but aligning himself with that goofball isn't smart.

I don't know much about politics and it shouldn't be discussed here. But you have to agree with him. Get together and solve problems.

Well thought out by the coach. What John said was more common sense than about being political IMO. It's similar to building a winner in the NFL. You spend money on what is needed the most. The results pay off. It's costing us dollars on those being held in INS and prisons. Money better spent on highways and education. Everyone loves to hear the truth except when it is about them.

Most all of us can agree with a politician on one particular issue that needs attention. That's about the size of it. Don't over value the statement. He is not IMO aligning with anybody.

These comments by Harbs have now gotten national coverage. LOL. Meanwhile, I can barely find any national coverage of this exciting 2015 Ravens team amid the Pats, Cowboys, etc Lovefest. What's wrong with this picture? Sheesh

If Waller is the only one showing starter potential I say let him start beside Smith it doesn't matter where a guy was drafted the only thing that matters is if he can make plays when called upon.

Are Webb and Asa both banged up? Good to see Jernigan making it back. Rest the O-line unless Joe is out there. With Receivers getting most of the press, I think our corp of TEs will be the most impressive unit and provide the miss matches. 6'6 Gilmore along with Boyle and Mad Maxx are too much for most LBs and safeties. I like Waller. He is big and can catch or draw fouls. Could be another OZ steal.

Well, I was going to vote for Rand Paul, but Harbaugh Harbaugh 2016!!!Flacco as secretary of state!

Ray Lewis as secretary of defense, of course.  Flacco as chief of the air force, naturally.  And Oz as the President's chief of staff.

I think that 4th and 20 play sparked some confidence in max and lit a fire. Maybe one big play under the lights was what he needed to start showing out

As far as football and politics are concern,John hit it right on the nail,Over the years I cannot stress enough how important those officials calls are to the Ravens, I'm wondering just how many game they have lost because of them,I've seen many ridiculous calls and comparing to the Patriots those calls always goes in their favor and I'm guessing it pays to be a cheater, cheaters always wins and perhaps it's better for the Ravens that they have this hardships, It make them a better team

I don't disagree but lest we get too down on the officials let's recall what it was like a few years back when they went on strike and we had to endure the season of the 'replacement officials'.  I almost gave up watching football altogether that year they were so bad.

I just had a funny thought.  Imagine Trump buying one of the NFL teams.  What would it be like coaching or playing for him?  "You're fired!  You're stupid!  You're a loser!" all day long.  And of course he would never be wrong.  Maybe he could get Magyn Kelly as a cheerleader???

It's a shame about Perriman and hoping he's not fragile like a toothpick? On the other hand I really like Waller and he seems to be durable so far but he wasn't the #1 pick. I really expected more from our #1 pick. Only CJ Mosley has lived up to draft status in the last 3 years. Elam has been a bust and Perriman had one practice, fell on his knee and hasn't been seen since. Here's hoping he returns soon because we need his speed. Not really happy about our choices for kick returns and punt returns. Where is the speed? Otherwise we look pretty good.

I agree about Waller. He didn't impress against N.O., but we'll wait and see how he does in the remaining preseason games. He had a reputation for reliable hands at Ga Tech, and I certainly hope that translates to the NFL. The guy could be a great red zone target.

As for Perriman- I hope he gets well soon. Injuries suck b/c they are largely beyond anyone's control. Being that he's a raw prospect, he needs all the practice & reps with Flacco that he can get. The more days he misses and the more unclear his return timeline becomes, the more nervous I (and many in Ravens nation) get.

Regardless, we've got a solid QB, a superb O Line, a great backfield, and a proven veteran WR who is going to tear it up in his final season. So, there's certainly more reason for optimism than pessimism regarding the offense. Go Ravens!

I too have a knot in the pit of my stomach with respect to Perriman. I'm dying to see him finally take the field and show that there is no longer term effect from this injury. Of all players we've added to our roster in 2015, his ability to fill his appointed role perhaps the most critical (with Arrington and Lewis close behind).

We can all sing the praises of Aiken, Brown, etc ... but no one there brings the explosive potential that Perriman could bring ... if he can get himself well and on the field.

Apparently Perriman has a history of Osgood Schlatter disease (OSD). This affects the knee typically in childhood and can have some tendency to flair up in adulthood. The main issue seems to be inflammation of the knee so if his latest bruise triggered some inflammation then conservative treatment such as rest would be advised. It's possible that they are being more conservative with him than they would with typical athletes so as not to make the condition worse. Of course I don't know this is the case but the team's cautious treatment of him would fit this scenario.

I agree that Harbs is a problem solver.  I like his style of dealing with problems and people.  But from what I have seen publicly of the two men I can't imagine two people less alike than Harbs and Trump.

It is hard for a receiver to impress when he's getting interfered with on every pass in his direction. That alone is valuable and gave us a lot of yards. I would love to see him catch a pass and see him show off that speed, but you have to take what you can get. To me, those pass interferences came because that corner knew he couldn't hang with Waller's speed or size.

Other draft picks haven't lived up? Brandon Williams, Kyle Jusczyczk, Kelechi Osemele, Rick Wagner. I think this year we see Crockett Gilmore contribute a lot. Jimmy Smith and Ladarius Webb play well when they aren't hurt...but that has been the issue with them.

The speed is at RB with Forsett, WR with Perriman, Waller, and Campanaro has tricky speed. CB is Asa Jackson. When Perriman comes back it isn't like you are going to see him running back kicks. That's a job for at most your #3 WR and your 4th or 5th CB.

In that play during the last winning Ravens drive where we were 4th and 20 and he caught a pass in the flat and ran for 22 yards and a game-saving first down with an athletic leap and a bone crunching smash into the defender and kept going his style somehow reminded me of Heap of years gone by.

Specifically our #1 draft picks have not lived up to being taken in first round except CJ Mosley the last 3 years. Yes, Brandon Williams, Jernigan were good draft picks but they were not the #1 pick. Arthur Brown has not lived up to being taken in Round 2 as of yet and could be cut this year? Waller is a gem taken in 6th round. We just can't afford to keep missing on these picks. We pick towards the end of the first round almost every year and need those picks to produce for us.

Judging a draft pick before they have played a game that counts is crazy, not going to judge Perriman because he missed a pre-season game ,and practices early in training camp...Now the Bears with the 7th over-all pick White is on the PUP list and may miss the season with shin surgery, now that would be something to get upset about, but no one has said anything close to that with Perriman.....And to make for misses with late first round picks, Carl Davis will make up for it being a 3rd round pick...Big time steal there...

I'm as frustrated as anybody about Perriman missing all this time, but I like Harbaugh's last comment about the situation. He said to put it in God's hands and let Him take care of it. That's ALWAYS the best strategy. I sure do want to see him back in practice, though, but I want him to be 100%. Oh, and I think Harbaugh Should announce himself as a presidential candidate. I don't think he'd win, OF COURSE! But, we'd, at least, hear an awful lot of common sense for a change.

Not judging Perriman yet. I just want to see him light it up. It's like Christmas and you get the best toy and you can't play with it. That's how I feel about it. I'm hoping for a speedy recovery and want my Ravens to dominate.

that analogy pretty much sums it up.

Perriman is making Ozzie's first round pick looking like another bust. So far Ozzie is looking at 3 of 8 that was worth it since 2008. Joe, Jimmy and C.J. Ozzie is much better in the later rounds.

First off, i have been saying it for years, the draft is a crap shoot, we have more mid to late round players turn into multi millionaires with big 2nd contracts than we do 1st rd picks...It's not where you are drafted that makes you a N.F.L player, it is how a player can pick up the pro game, and be very good at it.....After J.Smiths 2nd year, how many of you were yelling bust!!! yeah you know who you are...ha ha ha.....

Thanks to Ozzie we got "first round talent" with our first three draft picks this year. Davis and Williams look like sure winners so far. Perriman looked great before his injury and I think he will become the home run threat we expected. It just may take a little while for his knee to recover. That's fine.

Z.Smith looks like he will eventually contribute this year but Buck Allen may be a year or two in development. Forsett and Taliaferro will handle the heavy lifting.

Boyle looks like a bonus as does Waller. Both should contribute this year.

All in all I think we came out way ahead in the draft. We got some starters and some quality depth. I'm pleased with the results of this year's draft.

All in all we
