[News] Rookie Carl Davis Makes The Most Of Increased Reps

29 posts in this topic

Davis is going to be a good one, what a steal in the 3rd round. Z. Smith also impressed. My worry like many, is the secondary. Our starters will be fine, but the back ups suck. Those back up were last years starters against NE and that will be scary if a starter goes down.

No doubt we'll not see any appreciable decrease in play when Davis is giving Jernigan, Canty or Williams a sideline "blow"!

Next year, Canty may retire [become expendable] if Carl Davis plays as he did Thursday!  :D

I'm not sure our secondary is as bad as people might think, Pointer, Trawick, new guy Vaughn, Greenwood, and Walker got a lot of PT, and more than have seen in past years, and Walker is a rook...Our top 4 Webb,Smith,Arrington, and Melvin are all pretty solid, with Lewis, and Hill back there gives us a solid secondary, it's the depth that needs weeded out, because at some point the #5 and #6 CB/DB are going to be needed...

He was absolutely dominant. But as a rookie if he's featured heavily, he's going to need to be rotated out frequently to stay fresh by the end of the year. College kids aren't ready for 16 games plus the playoffs.

@Bandit666When teams start cutting down their rosters, The Great Oz will rise to the occasion!

I really hope you are right. Because teams don't usually let go of starting caliber CBs. The modern NFL dictates that you have 1- solid cb to mark the opponents best WR. CHECK (J.Smith) 2- quality CB to line up on the other side. (Webb if he comes anywhere near his old self) 3- good nickle CB because teams lineup with 3 WR sets on 60% of plays. IDK if Arrington is up for that task.

We still haven't considered the possibility of injuries as both Webb and J.Smith have missed 50% of their NFL games. Asking Arrington to lineup against opposing ones or twos is a reach. And who's gonna step in for 60 percent of the plays when teams line up with 3wrs?

I believe the best option is to go out on a limb and just get a guy who we like. Give up a late draft pick or a player or 2 that probably wouldn't get much playing time anyways.

I believe the rebuild is complete and it's time to think Deep playoff run or perhaps Super Bowl.

If Webb or Smith went down with injury Rashaad Melvin would be put into the #2 role. Arrington has proved to be one of the best slot corners in the game but he has also showed to be pretty terrible when playing on the outside. Arrington played well last night except when he was at safety but I think they just wanted to see what would happen if a safety went out if they would want him there. I think the Ravens talent wise has enough like last year to go deep into the play offs but they need to either have perfect execution to go to a super bowl and not have any major impact injuries. I am excited to see what players will be cap casualties when the third preseason game is upon us to see if we can get some good deals to help this football team. Right now all we need is to be healthy and keep practicing hard.

I know it's early and it's just preseason but Davis did an awesome job! Between him and Jernigan I feel confident with our players in the middle. So excited about this season! An elite QB, one of the best O-lines in the game, a probowl RB with a young hungry backup, a potential HOF rcvr with young talent becoming more and more reliable by the snap, two double-digit sack specialist on both sides with young talented players in the middle, a savy vet middle LB along side one of the best young probowl LBs in the game, and what should be at least a solid secondary, if not better than solid if Smith and Webb can play up to their potential.....if we can stay healthy(knock on wood) we are world-beaters!

Ozzie knows D linemen but what's funny to me is how the rest of the NFL keeps basically dropping them into Ozzie's lap later than they were supposed to be off the board. It's now 3 years in a row we're stacking our Dline with absolute studs - Davis-Williams-Jernigan is going to be monster line - while being able to also draft a player like CJ Mosley and hopefully hitting the mark with Maxx and Perriman, too.

The one thing I liked about this preseason game was Carl davis. Seemed like every play that was being made in the backfield involved him. He stumped Tim Hightower at one point in the 3rd qtr but you could tell he was getting tired at the end of the game. He's set to be good this year but I can't wait til next season for him. A year in the playbook and in the weight room lifting and conditioning he has outstanding potential. Can't wait to see how ozzie can build this new team even more through next offseason. We have our best corners signed and some promising young safeties and we have solid lines. We'll are set to contend for quite awhile with the roster well have. Biggest worries are oline guards for next season. But with dead money off the budget after this season and Joe restructuring his deal plus cap increase we're should have plenty cap to work some stuff out.

Here's a team I wouldn't want to go against if I were an Offensive Coordinator:

Timmy Jernigan, Brandon Williams, Carl Davis, Terrell Suggs, Dumervil, Mosley, Smith, Jimmy Smith, Webb, Will Hill and Kendrick Lewis.

That team is going to be really difficult to pass against or for that matter run against if they're fresh and spelled adequately! Go Ravens and be the best D in the league. It is time!

Here we go again. Jernigan hurt. Another guy with great "potential", and has shown it at times, BUT, he ia all too often injury plagued. The trend with him is what should be a concern. He is expected to fill some mighty big shoes. So far, it ain't looking good.

Davis Defensive Tackle could spell DDT. That sits nice with Sizzle and Doom. By mid season Carl Davis may become the starter at DT. Not due to injuries, but due to his ability. He appears to have settled right in to the NFL while keeping in mind that it was only the first game of preseason, Carl will get some tougher competition when we practice with and play the Eagles.

Harbs, "Basically we played him until he cramped up at the end and we finally dragged him off the field and someone else go in and play"! I like Davis feel like he and Jernigan are so similar in their styles!

Timmy dances though after a big play will have to see what Davis does on his 1st big play for the "D" Lol

I don't want to be a downer here, but Carl Davis didn't actually show up until the Saints took their starters out of the game. He was disrupting the backfield against the Saints #2 and #3 linemen. I still have confidence that he will be a good player, but there is a reason why he dropped in the draft. His consistency/motor was questioned, the fact that he's built like a NT but plays more like an undersized lineman...like Jernigan he's not a block eater and guy that was known for consistently pushing the pile. His pass rushing skills were also questioned. Now, scouting reports aren't always right and the scouting report on Ngata said he got lazy and times and took plays off. But when you start seeing possible question marks...potentially lazy, takes plays off, doesn't play up to his size, might not be able to pass rush against better talented blockers, and the fact that it took him three years to get into the shape he's in now and is still working on it...that makes you an extremely risky 1st round pick or even second round. You draft a guy that high and they have to be at the very least starters.

The guy that I liked was Beyer. He was constantly showing up in plays. If he wasn't the one making the tackle, he was the one setting the edge for somebody else to tackle. Zach Orr had a pretty good game. Schaub had himself a nice game too. Just want to see if he can do that consistently.

Jernigan returned the other day. He's fine. It was mainly just a precautionary thing I'm sure.

I think that there's little doubt that he was the best player on the field for the Ravens Thursday night. That"chip on the shoulder" he's carrying for falling into the third round seems to be serving him well. I hope he continues his impressive level of performance.

Davis was openly upset when he fell to the 3rd Round. He felt he was good enough to be a 1st Round pick. That kind of confidence along with feeling like he has something to prove could help him become a great player in this league.
