Buffalo Bills and Tyrod Taylor

63 posts in this topic

Taylor led the Bills to touchdowns in two drives while he was in.

Always felt that he had ability and that we threw him into very tough positions when we were involved in losing games.

He'll make mistakes because he hasn't had much NFL experience, but I believe he moves the Bills up significantly.

Tyrod has always been a read-option QB.  All the way back to VT.  As a backup though, that was his job.  To come in at various times... even bad ones.  It will be interesting to see how he fits into Rex's scheme.  I wish him all the success in the world, but I never believed he would/could be our starter.

Wish Tyrod luck in Buffalo, cool to see him getting his shot. He is starting against the Browns here next. Don't think the Ravens made the wrong move at all not bringing him back as he wanted to go to a place where he could compete.

"Coming up on Sportscenter... did the Ravens keep the wrong quarterback?"

I'm not thinking so....  Schaub and Renner showed some promise Thursday.  Loved the kid at the end of the game...  He saved himself.  As far as Schaub is concerned, no question, he's a very good backup.  He too showed what he's got.

Yeah comparing Tyrod to Joe vs comparing Tyrod to Manuel/Cassell is a night and day difference.

Lol Mom! I think he was being sarcastic.

I'm sure we all wish Tyrod well. He was always a class act here but he was just the wrong guy for backup in a West Coast style offense.

We've seen teams have incredible success with QBs like Tyrod recently. The problem for those teams is it lasted exactly 1 season before the QB either got hurt (RGIII) or teams figured out they don't actually throw all that well without the gimmick of the read option limiting the defense (Kaepernick).

I hope he does well and makes the playoffs. I've wanted to see what he could do elsewhere. I admittedly didn't like him much as a backup here because he's a different a QB than Joe but he's always seemed to have heart.

I also hope he starts every game and makes the playoffs because we'll get a much better compensatory pick lol

I think Tyrod is going to win the job.   The way Bills are set up, Tyrod is the way to go.

Strong d, with McCoy and a read-option QB like Tyrod is the way to go.

EJ is clueless when it comes to pressure blitz.  I admit he might have a better hand, but not much.   It also doesn't help EJ that Bills O-line doesnt suit what EJ is doing.

Cassel is a short dink and dunk guy.   If you need to win a game and bills are down by 14, Cassel will never win you a game.

This is why Rex wants Tyrod.

That is a good point as well, Should get one as I am guessing Schaub was a cut? It would be sweet if we got one

Game time has something to do with the compensatory pick formula? I saw this and was like, don't think a 3-year $3.35M contract will get us anything lol.

The formula isn't released, but all sources I read a couple years ago seem to agree that the formula is based on salary first with escalators for starting/playing time, playoff appearance, & postseason honors (i.e. Pro Bowl accolades). Essentially, if the guy starts or plays a lot then the escalator kicks in and the compensatory pick can get higher. If the guy goes to the playoffs, the pick gets higher. If the guy goes to the Pro Bowl the pick gets higher.

I'm glad Tyrod is getting a chance. When he was here, the stories out of training camp were always "The Ravens are in trouble if Flacco goes down", but now he's a big hit in Buffalo. I hate to say the tide will turn once the losses start piling up, but it will. Troy Smith and John Beck were "the future at QB" for San Francisco and Washington for about a month, too.

I really hope he looks good and plays the whole year. It helps us in many ways. It brings a lot of credence to QB we have who may leave on free agency. We could possibly become another Green Bay and New England in terms of teams wanting our QB free agents.

That's not including the residuals from him getting us a compensatory pick and the fact that I'd just like to see him do well.

They still are!

After all of the "Tyrod isn't the answer" rheoteric in here....he's now in Buffalo shining like a boss!  He just had a nice game against Luck and the Colts.  He was 14/19 I believe and then he threw a deep "accurate" TD pass to Percy Harvin who just happens to be from the 757 area like Taylor.  Sure, it was just 1 game but my boy was looking goooood!  Hopefully, he can keep building on this performance and improving his gameplay.  There will be rocky times (Ask Flacco after our loss to the Broncos...again!) but hopefully he can learn and bounce back from them.  I'll be watching and definitely cheering Tyrod "T-Mobile" Taylor on..that's for sure!

I think Tyrod is capable of being a poor man's Russel Wilson, as long as he protects the football. That's a major upgrade for the Bill's at QB, and I could see them winning the division.

The Jets brought in a lot of corners and drafted 3 DBs - LINK. I don't recall Rex Ryan being outspoken for a corner?

I might have pulled this out of context, not sure who 'they' is but, no, the collapse of the Jets wasn't over a few weeks. It had been building for a long time due to either organizational negligence or promotion of that environment.

You could go after Darren Sanders if you'd like. People have. People also went after Ray Rice, Jah Reid, Terrence Cody, etc. Kromer reflects on Ryan because he is Ryan's employee and Rex Ryan, being the head coach, assumes responsibility. Right or wrong, fair or not, that's what the position entails. Harbaugh, too, was criticized for his players' misconduct.

Ryan's AFC Championship Jets teams were 5-6 years ago. Look at the drop since then. What's the common thread in that decline? All those controversies and stupidity? Rex could make it work for a year or two, sure (I picked them to beat the Colts and think they have a fighting chance in theconference) but I don't have confidence long-term. I think it goes down in flames. Only time will tell.

They didn't bring anyone in until it was too late, they lost Cromartie, DRC chose the Giants over the Jets, and they didn't spend a high pick on a corner. The guys they did bring in before the season started were Dimirti Patterson who memorably went AWOL and hasn't been signed since(guess that one is on Rex too right?), Erick Langster, Darrin Walls, Johnny Patrick, drafted Dexter McDougle in the 3rd, got Brian Dixon as an UDFA, and grabbed Leon McFadden off waivers before the season. That is pretty comparable to what the Ravens did to address CB last year after losing Graham.

Also Rex Ryan according to reports wanted Revis back badly ( http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/03/12/report-rex-ryan-badly-wanted-to-get-revis-back-with-the-jets/). I would imagine he had better hopes for CB than what they got.

Exactly, it took time I see it taking time with the Bills as well. They won't go undefeated obviously, I mean teams will adapt to Taylor at QB so he needs to prove to be a threat from the pocket plus you can't be great every day but the defense and the running game(Taylor included) will not be fun come December.

Didn't Any Moeller get arrested a few weeks ago and wasn't he our former O-line coach? Also wasn't Kromer the OC under Trestman? Sure they are great reflections on Harbs and Trestman respectively. Or how about the Ravens players who got arrested being reflections of Ozzie and Steve? I mean I understand that sentiment as those type of things hurt you as a company(I mean employers nowadays get pretty in depth with that stuff in the hiring process because of it) but it is hard for me to say that if someone does something bad that it is a reflection of the person who hired them.

Yeah I think so at the end too but I kinda see it like Schwartz with the Lions where the franchise just needs that shot in the arm and the confidence boost, especially after Doug Marrone left the team like he did. That just can't be fun as a team or as a fan when the head coach leaves like that. I mean your coordinator leaving for a better job is one thing but he just decided to quit as a head coach. I would be devastated if Harbaugh did something like that to us, I mean Harbaugh is a much better coach who hopefully stays around until he retires(knocks on wood repeatedly) but you get the point. They aren't a big market either and I am sure they have to be loving the attention that they are getting right now with Rex, no one has talked about the Bills like they are now in a long long time.

And again I will stress the point that the Jets are a huge market and it is a lot harder to win in that environment. I mean we like to complain about some of the fans and media here at times but there are so many more people in NYC and the media is so much tougher there. That isn't to serve as an excuse because Rex did encourage some outlandish things and his overconfidence hurt him in the end but you know how the media, especially in a market like that, likes to play on those things all to get their clicks.

Also figured I would move this over here to keep things on subject lol

So you must not have realized that Tyrod was 14/19 on Sunday and that he threw a very deep and accurate 51 yard TD strike (from the pocket) to Percy Harvin?

You must not have realized that he was going against the Colts defense? Also 19 attempts isn't much at all, Mariota, Mallet, Carr, and McCown were the only ones that threw less, mainly because 3 of those guys didn't play the entire game. Still definitely props to him but that isn't a defense daring Tyrod to beat them and he is going to have to sling a lot more at some point.

Remember when Troy Smith was the answer?.....

Yeah, but I don't remember what the question was.

I watched Johnny Manziel complete a similar pass recently. Should we call him accurate as well?

CONSISTENT accuracy is what separates the have's from the have nots. And it will take at least a few months before we see if Tyrod is CONSISTENTLY accurate or not.

How successful were we passing against the Colts last year?
