[News] Lorenzo Taliaferro Makes Claim For No. 2 Job

14 posts in this topic

I never understood the ESPN-driven idea that Allen was probably the solution at backup RB. Rookie RBs are always brought into Harbaugh's teams slowly, even Ray Rice (a 2nd round steal) was basically third on the depth chart behind McGahee and McClain. Taliaferro looked really good last year, despite his size being a bit of an encumbrance in Kubiak's scheme.

The 2nd RB is an extremely important position on Harbaugh's teams, because we run the ball so much and the 1st RB has to have regular breaks. This is the guy who isn't spectacular like the 1st RB, but who can be trusted to hold onto the ball, get 3.5-4 ypc, and be excellent in pass pro. That's why Harbaugh is so reluctant to just pass that role over to the 2nd RB.

Taliaferro deserved the second RB slot based on his NFL experience confirming Thesim's view. He looked good and should improve his status in pre season.  I was excited about Buck based on his college vids but he has to wait his turn.

It's amusing how the article points out that he was "solid but unspectacular" in his rookie season, even though he had nearly 300 yds., a 4.3 yds. per carry average, 100 receiving yds., and 4 TDs.....as the THIRD string back behind Pierce. That may not be "spectacular", but for a third string rookie, those are damn good numbers. I hope we see a lot more of him in 2015.

Im glad Kyle Jusczyk was in the game and getting involved. He offers more than just blocking and I hope to see him on the field alot this season

1- juice looked a little more bulked and threw some really nice blocks during the short time he was in. I'm pleasantly surprised by him.

2- LT also impressed me. A lot actually! He dropped some weight and didn't lose much power but did look s bit quicker. He made a few nice catches. What impressed me the the most was his patience. He's not there yet but really is showing great signs. He's still running to high at times but for the most part he kept his pads low. He only gained 3 yards per carry but was significant in short yard situations and his stats would be better had he ran behind our starting Oline.

Looking forward to next week...

There's nothing I really saw that said Taliaferro didn't deserve the #2 spot on the roster. I still like Buck Allen on the roster though.

I really like the mindset of these young mid round picks! LT and Crocket Gillmore work their butts off in the off season to better their chances to be starters. I hope that rubs off on other guys and sets the bar for players to work really hard in the offseason! Thumbs up all day to hard work.

No doubt he's a #2! I was impressed with him last year and he just got leaner, quicker, hungrier,... and has a year of Know-how  :P  !

You yourself just said that he wasn't spectacular, so what's your point?

I was obviously being sarcastic, hence the quotation marks. Those numbers were pretty significant, considering that Pierce got more opportunities than he did, and considering that he was basically nonsensically benched by "doghouse" Harbaugh for several games, because of ONE fumble that wasn't his fault (it was knocked out),

Point being, what he managed to do with the limited playing time he was given as a rookie, was fairly impressive, and he showed major flashes. I think if injury (and the coaching staff) don't limit him this year, he really can, and should, build on that. I really think, IF he can stay healthy, that he has the kind of potential to be a starter for us in the future.
