[News] QB Bryn Renner Reacts To His Dramatic Finish

14 posts in this topic

I think we will keep Renner on the Practice squad to ultimately be Joe's backup QB for next season and beyond. I think he will improve enough over this season for the Ravens to feel comfortable with him as the #2 QB for next season. Good job keeping your composure after the pick. Shows a lot of moxy to stand tall and finish like that.

Well done!

The Ravens won't let Renner go. He's eight years younger than Schaub and displays coolness under fire. He proved that point last night. Renner doesn't rattle, which is surprising for a rookie. He'll be our backup QB next year. I liked the Renner to Williams combo.

The pick, for a starter, would have been unacceptable. But he made a good decision on that throw and just didn't set his feet. Some people might say it was too risky given their situation, but I think Renner understood that with how poorly the backup defense was playing, it was more important to get that 1st down and maintain possession. He just needs to make his fundamentals more automatic, so when he's in pressure situations like that and finds the right throw, he executes it. If he can do that, he can be a very good backup.

I agree that we'll want to keep Renner for the future, given that Schaub is under a 1 year deal and we'll likely want to put that $3M to use elsewhere. We are virtually guaranteed to keep a QB on the practice squad, and I suspect we'll be happy to place him there. I don't think he's polished enough to worry about anyone grabbing him off the PS to put him on their active roster, so he'll almost certainly be safe.

That said ... nothing against Renner, but if we make him our #2 next year then, we will all hope that he languishes behind Flacco for years, because Flacco is the man and hopefully will never get hurt. Maybe he can take the reigns in 2025 :-)

Is he gonna be patient enough for the PS? I certainly hope so... I don't know why, but his calm and cool nature reminds me of another rookie QB... and he came on strong his rookie year... Granted this guy wasn't playing #1's, but he was awesome last night.

SO impressed with his poise, confidence, and fight. He easily could have folded after the INT, or again on 4th and 20. I know it was a drive against the Saints' scrub defense (instead of the Ravens' 1st or 2nd team defense he was probably seeing in practice), but he looked like a savvy veteran leading his team to a last-minute win.

Definitely agree. It was a great read, he just didn't execute the throw -- just like the underthrow of Nelson's go route. He looks like a quick learner, what with all the criticism they had of him at halftime.

I've watched Bryn during his tenure at UNC and this is what you get, cool and confident under pressure.  He is a good QB with a high football IQ.  So proud of him last night!  Way to go Bryn!!!  :18_1_301:
