[News] Game Recap: Ravens 30, Saints 27

45 posts in this topic

The Ravens secondary will not even be tested in this preseason. They have Eagles,Redskins and Falcons. Only the Matt Ryan (if he plays) could test this group. Frankly, this Denver game could get ugly.

So happy for Camp. He just needs to stay healthy and he's going to make a lot of Ravens fans like him. He just has a knack for getting separation. He was Wide open on that TD pass. And Carl Davis is going to be a beast. It sure would be nice to see our backups play better, though. Of course, it's Extremely early, so no cause for concern yet. But, really, they weren't playing against the Saints' best players. They've got to look better. How can anyone figure that Taliaferro has the #2 running back slot already? He averaged 3 yards a carry. 3 yards! That shouldn't exactly wow anybody. I'd say that competition is still wide open. Wasn't happy at all about how our backups kinda caved and let them get back in the game and, actually, take the lead. But it was nice how Renner and the rest of them responded at the end. Now, the most important thing; nobody got any serious injuries, right?

as you should know , stats don't always tell the whole story. Talioferro looked very sharp- and the key is he did very well in short yardage situations , moving the piles and what not. That is what we need him for. Not saying he's earned the # 2 spot just based on last night by any means but it's a good start and he's been doing consistently well in practice as well. Overall I was very pleased. They tried Arrington out at safety- which some ppl weren't too happy about but its always good to know that we have a guy who can move over in a pinch , just gives us a little more depth. Even though he didn't do so well- thats what preseason is about- trying out different things. Come regular season Kyle will be strictly playing the slot so don't worry. Overall the tight ends looked really good as a whole. I'm also really excited About our rushing attack. We may have a legit 3 headed monster once they get going , esp paired with our starting offensive line.

I'm extremely happy for camp as well. He's in line to have a big year. I'm just excited about the whole team- we didn't even play jimmy at all - or have perriman to take the top off the defense. Was anxious to see how trestman called the game and he didn't dissapointed either. We have a lot to work on but Were gonna have an awesome team this year guys. We have so much young talent on both sides of the ball.

I think your right , the Denver game could get ugly .... For them.

Not sure why you feel that way, but I have complete confidence in jimmy , kendrick , and the rest of the guys. Also once our starting d line gets out there they are going to give Peyton some problems. We may not blow them away, but I see us winning fairly easily, Peyton will throw a couple picks and struggle throughout the game.

Good ending although it'll soon be forgotten. All one can hope for is the injuries are kept to a minimum and the second teams improve with more playing time. Two questions, please. What is the latest on Perriman's status and what is Jackson doing running kicks back? Since he has had knee problems in the past and he's more than adequate as a cover man it seems foolish to expose him to the hard hits associated with those duties. The Ravens can't afford to lose anymore DB's or they'll be back to trolling the scrapheap for bodies during the season.

and who do you suggest we give the return duties to? The same has been said about SSS , Webb , camp ? We can't afford to lose any of them but somebody's gotta do it, and preferrably somebody who won't muff the ball and continuously make bad decisions. Asa Jackson is probably the one we actually can afford to lose that is projected to make the team. I doubt carter or toussaint make the roster so there's not many other options. Edited by January J

If our cbs can play press our d line with cause Manning to have a very rough time

January J....I suggest Carter, who has more than enough speed to cover the position. I repeat, they cannot afford to start losing DB's because they're running back kicks. It's stupid considering that was the one position that in all likelihood cost the Ravens a trip to the SB. They may have more bodies for the position but the quality is still up in the air. Carter is raw but he has the potential and Jackson is/was counted on to be an big time contributor this season.

so you think carter will make the team over campanaro? Because it's almost certain that both of them won't make the roster, and right now it's def looking like camp has the edge. Yes the secondary was the cause for out collapse last year- but who's to say it won't be the receivers or another position this year?

One name I didn't really hear was tray walker. Anybody got anything on how he looked?

Lost. Takes years for that position.Ravens need at least find another Corey Graham type.

January J...you really think that Camp is going to make it throughout the season without an injury? That seems like wishful thinking. He reminds one somewhat of Stokley who could find the open spot but could never stay healthy. They will try to keep both just because of aforementioned concerns and don't want to give up on a speedster. That's one talent that can't be coached. Taxi squad a probability but he could be taken off of it by another team and if Camp goes down the merry-go-round starts again.

injuries are part of the game- carter could just as easily go down with an injury. Yes camp has prior hamstring issues but you can't really let a "what if" dictate who makes the roster. Right now camp is the more talented receiver AND has the experience. Sure carter may make the practice squad and be pulled up if camp gets injured. But no way they keep both on the active 53- it's just not happenin.

that's strange because from what I was just reading over in ravens talk several others noted that he had a pretty strong showing. Obviously still very raw but supposedly did very well considering.

Perhaps this is a small point about the game but the play that the Saints scored their first touchdown with 7:49 left in the 2nd quarter was actually illegal and the refs missed it. The play was a screen pass left. I wondered why we looked so bad on it. Then I reran it on my DVR in slow motion. If you watched closely there was a Saints player, #50, more than one yard downfield serving as a blocker for the receiver before the ball was thrown. In the NFL this is illegal whereas in college football it is legal. The play should have been blown dead with a five yard penalty assessed. This would have made it 3rd and 21 for the Saints, not a TD.

I think the Juszcyczk Machina is going to have a nice season catching the ball out of the back field this year. I thought he would get more looks last year, but it was pretty telling that he would sometimes split out and line up as a wide receiver on some plays. The guy was a pretty accomplished TE and if he was 6'4" he wouldn't be a FB. He's smart, he's a great blocker, and the guy knows how to run routes and has soft hands. He might not be the fastest guy on the field, but he's still a weapon. That is what I like about our offense this year. We can attack you in so many ways now. You can't sleep on anyone on the field. You have to respect the fact that Kyle will come out of the back field and catch a ball. Our running backs can all catch. We've got some good targets at TE and we still have Steve Smith. If Perriman is anything close to what is expected out of him that will be amazing....and then we have guys like Marlon Brown who can be a redzone weapon and over the middle/underneath guy, Camp if he can stay on the field can be a pesky 3rd or 4th and cause damage from the slot. Waller used his speed and size very well to get a lot of penalties called. I liked seeing that. I wasn't impressed with Butler and we didn't get to see a lot of Aiken. The safety turned WR Tom Nelson caught a pass.
