[News] Game Recap: Ravens 30, Saints 27

45 posts in this topic

my players of the game: lawrence guy, zach orr, eugene mornoe (although didnt play that much), taliaferro looked like a starting nfl running back, jah and ryan did some pretty good work especially jah, zadarius art and nick perry had a few good plays, and carl davis looked really impressive working next to lawrence... Players that dissapointed: klm-looked at times god awful, anthony levine and the backup secondary, buck didnt do that well but i doubt neither other rb's would against the second string line compared to the first, darren people will hang on to but couldnt even execute catching the screen pass (if people watched the combine, they would know he was the worst reciever invited) 63 on the o-line didnt look that good (i think clausell is his last name)... overall i like trestmans offense. Its clear that the fullback will be used judging by tonight... i like lining some tight ends out wide... first team looked great... WE have the best strating o-line in the nfl... would really like to see robert myers and urschel who had an excellent game against new england against vince wilfork last year... ricky stumbled out of the gate but finished the drive off strong... overall we look really good,,, would love to see the players who were inactive tonight get a go at it to see how we would look like at full strength... P.S. brennan bryer i thought looked pretty decent tonight.. i think he should definatly at least make the 75 cut

Carl Davis is going to be a beast. If a cheap CB or safety becomes available , OZ should pick them up. Trawick, Levine, Vaugn looked loss. Boyle is nice. He may be the best all around TE. Very sure handed. Butler did not shine as much as Waller. You can see on TV how much bigger he is than any DB trying to cover him. He either caught the ball or drew a foul.

Preseason game 1 Review, Notes.

1) First String Offense, and Defense dominant.

2) Stand out players.. Darren Waller WR, caught a pass or two. Opened up Campanaros Long TD by drawing double coverage with the safety. Also drew multiple Defensive holding and pass intereference Penalties something Jacoby and Torrey did great by being freak Athlete big targets with speed.

Carl Davis, very disruptive in the middle pretty much all night.

The TEs as a group. Gilmore showed on drive 1 hes a better rwceiver, then Boyle caught 3-4 underneath tough passes showed great hands, then Williams showed why hes a no.1 WR/TE with that Ridiculous 22 yrd reception on final drive.

Taliaferro showed a leaner, meaner self

Negative.. No answers yet on returner, no other real standouts on defense. Z. Smith had that one late sack but he didnt set the edge at all, all night and if he is going to be as quality a player as Mcphee or Kruger he has to do both..set the edge and oass rush.

Nobody probably cares but I believe Art Brown lead team in tackles...maybe he can turn corner

Always good NO MAJOR INJURIES

Overall, this is a great football team. The first team offense and defense looks sharp. Flacco looks sharp. Matt Schaub looks good. The backend of the backups need to improve a little bit but overall great game.

As bad as the second and third team front seven looked in the heart of the game, they seemed to get stronger with more snaps under their belt. Zedarius needs coaching or something. Either he was tired or just needs technique cuz it seemed like he just wanted to play pattycake with the lineman rather than shed blocks at times.

There's a lot of promise with our young guys.

Perriman didnt even play and our first offense looked strong. Getting him back to stretch the field and take a safety out of the box will only make our backs look better.

Maxx had some huge chunk plays.

Carl Davis consistently pushed lineman back into the backfield and disrupted lanes.

Boyle looked the part of an all around TE aftet being pegged as simply a blocking TE.

Buck Allen looked good in pass protection even though he had a concentration drop.

Waller can totally be coached to be a mismatch nightmare.

And Tray Walker, inspite of missing time, showed that he's a toughnose tackler along with being a size CB.

Its these guys' first live action and the fact that even within the small sample of their very first game the general trend was that they got stronger and more comfertable is very very promising.

Bottom line the depth needs more work...Good news is we have 4 more pre-season games, first game i pretty much give them a pass...First N.F.L, going up against real competition and just not each other in practice....The key is for the players who make the 53 man 10 PS rosters, is they get better ever game....IMO....

I hope he keeps it up, but as far as I'm concerned, Taliaferro already proved he could/should be the #2 back, at the very least, last season. He showed he can run hard, catch, and block, all last season. The dude is legit. Buck Allen has nice hands and a good burst. But for my money, I'll take "Jamal Jr." as our primary behind Forsett. And regardless, hopefully we don't lean too much on Forsett this season, hopefully we spread the carries around between all three guys, keep them all fairly fresh and utilize their strengths.

Good ending although it'll soon be forgotten. All one can hope for is the injuries are kept to a minimum and the second teams improve with more playing time. Two questions, please. What is the latest on Perriman's status and what is Jackson doing running kicks back? Since he has had knee problems in the past and he's more than adequate as a cover man it seems foolish to expose him to the hard hits associated with those duties. The Ravens can't afford to lose anymore DB's or they'll be back to trolling the scrapheap for bodies during the season.

I totally agree with this, I'm super excited about this kid. Watching the tape from him in GT he looked twice the size of anyone around him, same with Carl Davis actually now that I think about it. But, remember Tommy Streeter from a few years ago? He was a size speed beast as well, I guess they just don't pan out sometimes. Here's hoping Waller is legit.

I would like to thank Rob Ryan for this Ravens victory. 4th and 20, all you have to do is stop the offense from getting 20 yards, and he brings the house. LAWL!

Joking aside, a pretty impressive performance from the Ravens.

guys thanks for the update on the game cause i couldn't watch from toronto as a die hard Ravens fan!!, hope we go on a big run

NFL game pass or game rewind are the best investment I ever made lol. No one ever plays the Ravens games unless it's on prime time. Hope Toronto treats you well.

Haven't seen the whole thing as I was struggling with my internet connection, but liked what I did see. Schaub looked good as did Taliaferro and definitely Carl Davis. Didn't see much of Maxx Williams, but what I did see I think we're going to be solid on the TE front even if Pitta doesn't suit up. I like his toughness!

Although this was a preseason game it is the seasons' first game @ M & T.  Nice to start with a W. NFL channel should have televised the game.

Watched Red Zone and got nothing but Pats game for most of the time. What a shame they can not recognize the Ravens. Don't think I will pay good money to get Red Zone this season since Ravens are left out in the cold much of the time.

I was thrilled t see our lst string offense and defense look so good. Keep it up guys. Go Ravens.

Taliaferro "proves he deserves the nod" w/a 3 yard average? I know it's preseason and all, but c'mon. No news there, Mink.

Joe was rock-steady, confident and in total command that first drive. Trestman and Joe are seem to be a good combo. Was worried that Juice wasn't going to be utilized much in the Trestman offense so I was thrilled to see Juice involved from the get go. First string on both sides of the ball was impressive.

So happy for Camp. He just needs to stay healthy and he's going to make a lot of Ravens fans like him. He just has a knack for getting separation. He was Wide open on that TD pass. And Carl Davis is going to be a beast. It sure would be nice to see our backups play better, though. Of course, it's Extremely early, so no cause for concern yet. But, really, they weren't playing against the Saints' best players. They've got to look better. How can anyone figure that Taliaferro has the #2 running back slot already? He averaged 3 yards a carry. 3 yards! That shouldn't exactly wow anybody. I'd say that competition is still wide open. Wasn't happy at all about how our backups kinda caved and let them get back in the game and, actually, take the lead. But it was nice how Renner and the rest of them responded at the end. Now, the most important thing; nobody got any serious injuries, right?

I got NFL Rewind which in the preseason is known as game pass. They live broadcast preseason games on the internet. I think its running 70 bucks right now. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

Going to Phins game too. There will be lots of purple there for sure.

Last year, was it 50/50 in Phins Land or more purple than blue/orange?

1st team O and D look to be in midseason form. i didnt see Jimmy out there at all and we got back to back 3 and outs...Flacco looks very sharp. Cant wait to see him hooking up with Perriman. I see you guys saying LT avg 3 yards a carry, well being that he is our short yardage back, that 3 ypc avg is just what we need. Yes he will be used to spell forsett but for the most part he will be our 3 and 1-2, 4th and 1, goaline back. so his avg will be low. I just pray that none of our defensive starters get hurt because the back up LB got exposed in the passing game. but we have 3 more games to get it together. and build

Yeeup.  We did the Tampa game and our daughter watched our pooches.  Then we watched their kids so they could do Miami.  No more pooches.  He is no longer with us. So we are going South this year.
