[News] Late For Work 8/12: If A Teammate Ever Broke Joe Flacco's Jaw ...

Everybody agrees Ray Rice should get a second chance (or so it seems), then good; someone give him that chance. Silence? I wonder why. Our hypocrisy just gores my ox.

If anyone ever wanted to punch Flacco, they wouldn't get past Yanda before he wheelchaired them.

Glad to hear Ray Rice being talked about again in relation to football. I really do wish him a second chance in the NFL. It's highly improbable that it will happen with the Browns, both West and Crowell showed promise and I think the statement is just for motivation. I would also not wish the Browns organization on Ray. Texans are a better team for a second chance and in actual need of an every down back so I'd rather see him there. Not sure that's realistic though.

Steve Smith Sr's quotes are the best and finest. “Put the women and children to bed. It's not going to be a good night" - this will become a classic! I saw the 13 unforgettable things about SSS on NFL.com and have endless admiration for the guy. Although (and don't take this as putting him down, I'm not) with his southern accent, he does sound like the NFL Bad Lip Reading and made me giggle.

Ravens don't need him at the moment. They have Forsett for another year or three and two young backs (plus Touissant, who I doubt will make the roster). However, I do think there's a legitimate spot for him on Texans roster if they'll have him.

A lot of it is just fear of bad PR. Though why they don't manage PR sensibly and will rather be a losing team without the media hassle, I don't know. Make an announcement, send some team money to a DV charity, have him become a face of some org that helps either DV victims or the offenders with temper management, live through the 1 week of bad publicity, then move on to football and be glad, that with Ray you might still bee talking about football in January.

No teammate would break Flacco's jaw because 1) Flacco would rightfully pay the $600 that was owed and 2) Flacco would not be sticking his finger onto that person's face.

...tell you the truth; I don't thing the Ravens should have released him when they did (but that's revisionist's history). They could have granted him an extended leave of absence for counseling (or whatever PR BS sessions idiots that screw up are subjected to) like Riley Cooper and Aldon Smith (before he... well... screwed up yet again). That can be paid or unpaid; I don't know how the CBA rules on such time away from work. I just don't know that Bisciotti is exactly the guy to advocate for someone else to give Rice a "chance".

Not to mention that Flacco is not Geno Smith and isn't the oft-teased QB of a completely mismanaged franchise.  It is obvious that the guy, stupid, reckless and clueless as he is, had no respect for Smith whatsoever.  Still, he ruined his own career and will always look back on this as the dumbest thing he ever did.

BTW, I love Steve Smith's spunk, but I always have to laugh at his blood and guts comments.  He's a receiver, for crying out loud.  :)

A couple Flacco comments if I can and this is just my opinion. I cant imagine anyone punching Flacco because I cant imagine Flacco standing up a co-player, taking their money and not making it right. I cant imagine Flacco chasing a corner down the field because he threw an interception and if he did, I cant imagine if the corner stiff armed him he would escalate the situation. Cam and Geno got what they deserved and its time to start punishing these immature qbs instead of rewarding them. Also, I think after Flacco inadvertently used the "R" word he was embarrassed by his actions and though he had always worked with special Olympics and the developmental disability community that he redoubled his efforts and has now become a prominent celebrity promoting their cause. I think it also shows how much of a real man he is by admitting he made a mistake and then stepped up and used his status to benefit the cause. That is a leader and a role model. Geno and Cam are not the type of people I would point to and say to my child, I want you to emulate that person. Joe is.

What happened with Geno Smith has no relation with Flacco or this great Ravens organization, so to me, bringing up this topic is irrelevant and a unnecessary distraction. With that being said, the details of what happened in that locker room shouldnt be reported on this website especially if we don't even know exactly how it went down. I heard that it wasn't even a sucker punch, and that Geno Smith in a way provoked it. I blame both guys and the HC.

The jets quarterback gets his jaw broke by a teammate . The panthers qb is brawling with a teammate. The patriots qb is in court trying to get his suspension reduced.

Meanwhile the ravens are in the locker room dancing having the time of their lives. Super Bowl 50 here we come.

On another site someone brought up the fact that his full first name is Ikemefuna, which evidently means "May my struggles/efforts not be in vain.

I have never heard another athlete with a more entertaining barrage of witty, blunt and true laugh out loud sound bites than SSS. Seems like SSS is going to be in rare form all during his final season with memorable 1 liners. I'm sure SSS is going to be raising hell on the field as well. This is going to be a fun year to be a Raven's fan. Keep it coming SSS.

True, that would have been best.

I don't know if anyone else has realised this but we are only 32 days away from handing the Broncos a worse beat down than they got in the SuperBowl. I don't see why we won't be able to put up 30 points a game and well we all know our Defense is going to be #1 this year.

Geno must not have much respect in that locker room. I don't have much respect for him either. Missing meetings bc he was at the movies, cussing at fans and not paying people back and then actin all tough about it bc he's the qb. He just seems like a shallow and petty dude. And to top it off he's played very poorly, so he gets no slack.

First of all comparing the Jets organzation to the Ravens, is like comparing an award winning movie to cartoons. Jets are a joke like many teams in the NFL. Its bad enough to listen to the media experts that every QB is better then Joe. Not many are. We are so lucky to have Joe, his temperment, his class, his style of leading his team year in & year out.

jets screwed up. they have the opportunity to get rid of there "starting" qb and really attempt a winning season. this unknown second year linebacker actually had done the jets a favor. geno has proven his ego is bigger than his understanding of the game. this isn't west virginia where your playing school with defensive secondaries that read the play or run faster than your receivers. this is the nfl where your window small.

There had to be more to the issue than $600 win players make millions. geno must have be playing the star card. if he did that the will only divide the locker room. and it might already done that.

Personally, I don't like when the Ravens' writers post articles about other team's misfortunes on the official website.

It wasn't even a year ago that the video from "inside" the elevator was released.  EVERYONE was writing about it

and NONE of us liked it.

I think they should use Bryce petty as their starter..

The difference between Rice, Cooper, and Aldon Smith is Ray Rice was done..............uneffective against any defense......he got his ring and paycheck.......Now you're done...........no more brain damage Ray.....Your time is up!

Joe picked a great organization to team up with (Special Olympic). I'm sure Joe will cherish that metal, an innocent gift of love always has a special meaning. As for breaking Joe's jaw, it would have to be a powerful hit because Joe can take a hit. Plus that person would never make it out of Bmore alive.

I wish Ray the best, but there's NO reason to bring him back here. It's been proven that we have an effective running game w/out him.

Lol, The Broncos defense is great and they have a REALLY good secondary. Don't count on US scoring 30 via the offense. However their O-line is virtually 5 traffic cones. Their LT and LG are both rookies and their center is a 6th round pick that barely beat out Gino, plus they lost Julius Thomas. This is gonna be an intense game. Our secondary will decide the game.

Would never happen. Flacco commands too much respect from his teammates to allow that to happen and he respects himself (and others) too much to allow any situation that would cause a teammate to want to punch him.
